NW, I was just about to comment on that photo after looking at Pete’s flicker pages. That little boy is grabbing on for dear life. Not.Letting.You.Go! Kids, the elderly, heck, all of us would just love to hold on to him too! 🙂 One thing I noticed, the elderly either touch his cheek as one would with someone close to your heart. Or they shake his hand with both of theirs. Or just plain kiss his hand! Little kids just hug both POTUS & FLOTUS, real tight! And are just plain comfortable with them.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/apnewsbreak-us-sharply-cutting-deportations-25434627

President Barack Obama, who has postponed until after Election Day his plans that could shield millions of immigrants from deportation, is already on pace this year to deport the fewest number of immigrants since at least 2007.

According to an analysis of Homeland Security Department figures by The Associated Press, the federal agency responsible for deportations sent home 258,608 immigrants between the start of the budget year last October and July 28 this summer. During the same period a year earlier, it removed 320,167 people — a decrease of nearly 20 percent.

Over the same period ending in July 2012, Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 344,624 people, some 25 percent more than this year, according to the federal figures obtained by the AP.

The figures, contained in weekly internal reports marked “Official Use Only,” reflect the marked decline in deportations even as Obama has delayed announcing what changes he will make to U.S. immigration policies. Immigration advocates widely expect Obama to reduce the number of immigrants who are deported, a particularly sensitive issue in many states. Since Obama took office, his administration has removed more than 2.1 million immigrants.

Every time I see the way people react to the President, I wonder, what planet are the msm and pollsters on?? Seriously, regular people like POTUS. Who can even believe the low poll numbers, or the talking heads trying to convince themselves that every hates PBO.

Sort of like in ’08 when we saw huge crowds for Obama and empty chairs and smaller crowds for McCain yet the polls told us McCain was more popular.

Sometimes you accidentally look at the comments section on some link … and just want to pull the blanket up over your head. So many people are heartless and cruel. I try not to wish bad things on people, but am a tiny bit comforted that Karma’s a bitch.

I need to keep repeating to myself: “There’s an endless supply of paint.” As we all do!

  21. September 11, 2014 at 4:13 pm

    ————————–

Would a remnant force of U.S. soldiers have stopped the rise of a new Sunni insurgency, led by jihadists, under the divisive Maliki regime? That seems a doubtful assertion, no matter how often or how angrily McCain says so. What seems considerably less arguable, however, is a simpler thesis: Without the invasion of Iraq, ISIS would never have been spawned.

One thing I’m finding exciting is the people who really do understand the Iraq/Syria/Saudi/ISIL situation and that they also understand Pres Obama and what he is doing. Once again I am so impressed with POTUS’ ability to understand and craft amazing strategies that deal with complexities there and also what he has to deal with here with the GOP and American people who want a simple solution. I couldn’t summarize this excellent article, but it’s well worth a read. This is my take: the region has been in turmoil of one type or another for hundreds of years. It’s been destabilized and is coming to a new balance. It’s up to them to create the type of government they truly want. Neocons in the US can’t handle their own feelings so when they panic they want to control and there is no frigging way we can control what is happening. But we can be a stabilizing force for as humane a balance as possible and give them a chance to work it out. I am so excited about our President! I feel like he understands the forces at work there and sees ways to apply pressure to the change that is happening, while still giving them the space to determine their own future. He is telling them it is up to them. As always I am so impressed with Pres Obama and thrilled to be a voter in his time in office.

…Analysts will focus on his four-step program of fighting ISIL, but it is in the president’s analogies to his present battle that we find clues to what he really expects to happen. He says that this is not a war as Iraq and Afghanistan were wars, i.e. with the commitment of several divisions of conventional US ground troops…

…Invoking Yemen and Somalia is a signal of minimalism in every way…..

….Look at his metaphors. He is telling those who have ears to hear that he is pulling a Yemen in Iraq and Syria. He knows very well what that implies. It is a sort of desultory, staccato containment from the air with a variety of grassroots and governmental forces joining in. Yemen is widely regarded as a failure, but perhaps it is only not a success. And perhaps that is all Obama can realistically hope for….
