‘the gop’s cia playbook: destabilize country to sweep back into power’

Robert Parry (Alternet): Modern Republicans have a simple approach to politics when they are not in the White House: Make America as ungovernable as possible by using almost any means available, from challenging the legitimacy of opponents to spreading lies and disinformation to sabotaging the economy …  almost as if they are following a CIA training manual….

…. When a Democrat somehow does manage to get into the White House, Republicans in Congress (and even in the Courts) are ready to do their part in the destabilization campaign…

…Immediately the Republicans and the Right set to work demonizing and destroying Obama’s presidency. Instead of allowing the Democrats to enact legislation aimed at addressing the financial and economic crisis, the Senate Republicans launched filibuster after filibuster.

….There were waves of propaganda pounding Obama’s legitimacy …. Soon, billionaires like oil man David Koch and media mogul Murdoch were promoting a “grassroots” rebellion against Obama called the Tea Party. Activists were showing up at presidential speeches with guns and brandishing weapons at rallies near Washington.

….The Republican propaganda machine will tell the American people that they must throw Obama and the Democrats out of office for stability to return….

Of course, the reality of a new Republican administration, especially with a GOP Congress, would be the return of the old right-wing nostrums: more tax cuts for the rich, less regulation of corporations, more military spending, and more privatization of social programs.

….The hard reality in the United States today is that the Republicans and the Right are now fully organized … they are well-positioned to roll the U.S. economy off the cliff and blame the catastrophe on Obama.

….that may be their best hope for winning Election 2012.

How dems are sitting back and allowing them to make this attack on the President makes me question my reason for being apart of this party.

Tulips, I am with you. I am sick and tired and angry at the way the dems treat Obama. Tom Harkins got a nasty email from me last week when he said that Obama needs to do something about jobs. Tom are not you and the dems in the senate responsible for writing bills? It sure is not the president. The dems are being cowards right now, just like they were before the 2010 elections. They were afraid they would lose their seats, and that is exactly what happened. Now they are doing it again.

As a little girl during the civil rights movement. I realized one thing people listened and followed king not his minion. Jessie jackson, and the rest organized the space and time king gave the strategy. discipline was key and people listed to the leader this is what made thee movement successful. Unity is needed and a commitment to the leader of the party president Obama, but the pl can’t stand to be lead by a black man, they want to use him as a front and control the messages how they feel it should be dictated. what they fell to realize is that their way will never gain traction because the refuse to be lead , listen and sacrafice. We have diverse groups who want to promote their own individual agenda instead of having a agenda that we all could rally for. The agenda should be set by needs and not by rights if you set those needs the rights will fall in place. education, energy, immigration, jobs, criminall justice should not be divided it should be fought on a large scale not a individual group scale. the president know this and is trying but the followers is caught up in their own group wants.

Very well stated. I definitely think it is partly race, but I also think many of the dems are jealous as hell that this young guy comes a long and goes to the head of the class after a couple of years. It is race and envy. Obama raises money for all of the dems, and he does a damned good job. Are they grateful? Hell no!

I am with you both. I am so disappointed in the Democrats in their defence of our President.

Since PBO can’t hit the campaign trail until next year, we should have Dems out burn, ing up the airwaves responding to Romney, Huntsman and all of these bozos. We can’t let these lies and attacks on PBO stick.

Randi Rhodes discussied on one of her shows. She is the only talk show host who discusses real issues and talks about PBO’s accomplishments. Her show is very good. I listen everyday.

I agree – I try to listen at least during lunch, and as much as I can possibly squeeze in during her three hours. I don’t agree with her on everything, but who do you ever agree with completely? She gives facts and links for us to research on our own. And she usually comes prepared. She had a doozy of an idiot on her show today…

Dead give away about Thom Hartmann is that he uses that despicable, petty, idiotic wannabe David Sirota as a stand -in …

They all fall into that category of so-called liberal/progressives who are so racist they almost give their teabagger counterparts a good run for their money…

The sort that insist that President Obama isn’t ‘progressive’ enough but will immediately lament not having the very centrist Hillary Clinton as president….

It’s all so bizzarre until you begin to understand that this is really all about race and the concept or perception of the black man as intellectually inferior…

How else to explain the sudden sense by so many idiots like the Secret Service detail guy, Huntsman, Bachmann etc. that they too can be president and only because they think, if the black guy can, so can they…

How else to explain the idea that every idiot with a microphone and a slot on any random station, feels qualified to instruct President Obama on how to govern…

CNN is promoting Michelle Bachman. Do they really want that unstable woman to stand next to my president if she wins 😆 the nomination?

This morning MSNBC showed PBO’s speech in Puerto Rico. I turned to CNN and they were not showing it ,unless they chimed in later. Last night Cooper, Gergen and that Borger woman all ganged up on Gibbs taking up for the repugs. I could not believe my eyes.

      • June 15, 2011 at 5:42 am

I sent Gergen a email and that Borger woman is next. I use to respect Gergen but no more. I can’t stand him. I can’t stand CNN either.

          Turn them off…

They stopped being a credible network long ago…

CNN is now a right wing propaganda machine…

Shameful but mostly embarrasing for them…

John King is such a transparently idiotic republican shill as are David Gergen, Candy Crowley and the lot…

So is Tweety. He and HP guest are naming her the frontrunner after last night’s debate. Is this the Twilight Zone? When people call her bats__t crazy, they mean it. She’s put on her fakey reasonable voice since she decided to jump in the race, but thats not who she is. We’ve seen who she is. Then they all talked as if it was a real possibility that Perry/Bachmann could be the GOP ticket. This is crazy stuff. And they’re saying it with a straight face.

Tulips, I look forward to listening to Randi’s show everyday. She is a smart lady and reminds me a little of PBO in stating facts and sources. I love when she ask the reo callers, what have the repugs done for you? Normally they can not name anything. 🙂

I heard this on Randi Roads show today…….she’s about the only one I’m listening to these days.

Randi Roads mentioned the organization called ALEC on her show. This orgranization is responsible for writing all the republican legislation that’s being rolled out in the republican led states across the country. As a matter of fact I emailed the site to Rachel Maddow the other day and told her if you and your staff want to do some interesting reading please check out the site.

    The Republican Playbook.

I read the complete article. It is a little scary. I sent it on to some family and friends. My nephew and I are having a debate about it. He is really a conservative and he gets his news from Fox. He sends me stuff and instead of him looking it up for fact, he sends it to me and then I have to do all the research and refute what he sends. It keeps me going sometimes. Tonight, it’s Alternets article. But it is so darned true. Scorched earth.
Thanks Chipsticks for your site, I check you out several times during the day (I am officially retired 🙂 smiley didn’t work darn.
