‘i see the sadness and worry that’s creasing his face’

…with California Air National Guard Capt. Kelly Smith during a Joining Forces event in Beverly Hills, California, June 13

Sun Times: Pool report from First Lady Michelle Obama’s Pasadena funder: About 500 people gathered on the ample lawn behind the Pasadena home of Ann and Robert Hamilton for a lunch-time fundraiser …The First Lady spoke for about 25 minutes….

Lena Kennedy, the co-chair of the event, introduced her as “the not-so-secret weapon of the President of the United States.”

…She began by recounting her husband’s journey to the White House, beginning with the moment he told her he wanted to run for President.

”I wasn’t exactly thrilled at the idea,” she said. “I still had some cynicism about politics, that was my hesitation.”

But she said she was transformed on the campaign trail after hearing the stories of everyday Americas….

Obama then listed some of the things her husband has done in office during his first two years. “We’ve gone from an economy that was on the brink of collapse to an economy that is starting to grow again,” she said.

She also mentioned healthcare reform, the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell…..

….The First Lady talked about the toll that his work had taken on her husband. “I see the sadness and worry that’s creasing his face,” she said.

She described his work ethic as tireless. “He reads every word, every memo, so he is better prepared than the people briefing him,” she said. “This man doesn’t take a day off.”

Obama said the next few years of campaigning would be difficult at times for the Obamas and their supporters. “It is not going to be easy, and it is going to be long,” she said. “Now more than ever we need you help to finish what we started.”

curry focuses on important issues of the day. sigh.

MSNBC: In an interview with TODAY’s Ann Curry that will air on Tuesday’s show, President Barack Obama said that if he were Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner right now, he would resign…

“I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign,” he said.

“When you get to the point where, because of various personal distractions, you can’t serve as effectively as you need to, at the time when people are worrying about jobs, and their mortgages, and paying the bills — then you should probably step back,’’ Obama said.

Obama added that what Weiner did was “highly inappropriate’’ and that he has “embarrassed himself” and his wife and family, but said it will ultimately come down to a decision by Weiner and his constituents as to whether he will continue in office.

sign your name….

DCCC: Republicans are rolling out another plan to “privatize” and end Social Security as we know it, turning seniors’ guaranteed benefits into a guaranteed gamble. The last time they tried this was 2005. Just think, if they succeeded then, seniors would have lost trillions more in the 2008 financial crash.

We protected Social Security then. Let’s stand together to protect it again now.

Help us get 100,000 signatures for our petition calling on House Republicans to drop their reckless plan to end Social Security as we know it. Add your name and then spread it far and wide to your friends and family.

DCCC: As part of their radical Tea Party budget, House Republicans voted to end Medicare but protect tax breaks for millionaires, billionaires, and Big Oil.

We can’t let this stand. Make your voice heard by adding your name to the petition and we’ll send all of the responses directly to Speaker Boehner himself.
