night everyone

A heartfelt apology to anyone who lost their lunch after viewing today’s picture (here) of Newt on vacation:

I promise, you will never see that picture here again – ie this one:

You won’t see this one here either – largely because it shows the President has a lot of work to do to match Newt’s physique:

See you tomorrow 😉

watch out for newt on a beach near you

Steve Benen: Disgraced former House Speaker Newt Gingrich recently boasted that presidential campaigns as extraordinary as his are only seen “once or twice in a century.” He may have been onto something. After all, it takes a special kind of presidential candidate to go on vacation three weeks after launching a campaign:

…..Gingrich has raised eyebrows among supporters and political observers by taking a vacation with his wife – during the same week prominent religious conservatives are gathering in Washington. Gingrich, who has been married three times, has been aggressively courting the religious conservatives, including many of the “pro-marriage” activists gathering in Washington.

Sure, everyone takes breaks, but Gingrich has been a candidate for three weeks. To borrow a 2008 cliche, if the former Speaker can’t even handle a month on the campaign trail without a vacation, how in the world does he expect to handle the pressure of being the president of the United States?

Update: Exclusive photo of Newt on an unnamed beach today:

he’ll never stand up to big oil!

The Hill: The Obama administration said Friday that a massive pipeline carrying oil across much of the United States must remain shut down until federal regulators are satisfied that it can operate without future leaks. TransCanada’s Keystone pipeline leaked twice last month, fueling opposition to a pending expansion of the project, which is undergoing a wide-ranging federal review.

The Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) issued a “corrective action order” Friday informing TransCanada that it must take a series of steps before resuming normal operations at the pipeline, which runs from Canada to Oklahoma.

“After evaluating the foregoing preliminary findings of fact, I find that the continued operation of the pipeline without corrective measures would be hazardous to life, property and the environment,” Jeffrey Wiese, PHMSA’s associate administrator for pipeline safety, said in the order.

…The order comes at a politically sensitive time for TransCanada. The company is seeking federal approval to expand its Keystone pipeline to carry Canadian oil sands from Alberta to Texas … Environmental groups have mounted a campaign against the Keystone XL project, arguing that it puts the country at risk of major oil spills ….the oil industry and some Republicans have been strong advocates for the approval Keystone XL…..

he’s soft on ‘terror’, you know

MSNBC: Senior al-Qaida operative Ilyas Kashmiri, regarded as one of the world’s most dangerous militants, has been killed by a U.S. drone strike, Pakistani intelligence officials and a militant group confirmed Saturday.

A fax from Kashmiri’s Harakat-ul-Jihad al-Islami militant group said Saturday that Kashmiri was “martyred” in the strike at 11:15 p.m. Friday in South Waziristan. It vowed revenge against America.

The Pakistani official also said Saturday that Kashmiri was among nine militants killed in the strike … Kashmiri is one of five most-wanted militant leaders in Pakistan and his apparent death is another blow to al-Qaida just over a month after Osama bin Laden was killed.

****

****

BBC: ….According to a recent Associated Press report, his name figured among the top five al-Qaeda and Taliban militants US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mentioned during her meetings with the Pakistani leadership a week ago.

He was one of the most active al-Qaeda leaders, and was believed to have had a role in some high-profile attacks against Pakistani and US interests in Pakistan. It is believed that the capabilities of his 313 Brigade will suffer a setback now that he is gone.

What is more, the Pakistani government has admitted to agreeing to set up joint intelligence teams with the Americans to hunt down wanted militant leaders, and many would be led to believe the Pakistani intelligence operatives had a role in leading the Americans to Kashmiri, unless the Pakistanis or the Americans claim otherwise.

maher’s musings

*** Don’t click if you can’t stand Bill Maher or if you can’t cope with hearing the half-termer’s voice! ***

On the Paul Revere thing …. I ventured in to Teabag territory again to see their reaction to her latest idiotic utterance:

“She has to be really careful what she says anywhere near a camera or microphone.”

“There was more truth in her words than there was error.”

“Did you ever get caught off guard when your mind is focused on something else? I have, many times. She IS articulate, when she’s on the same page as the interviewer.”

“Lookalikes are showing up at Palin rallies.”

😆

***

Thank you Loriah for the half-termer’s latest polling figures (from PPP):

Oh dear – look at her figures in Alaska! 😆

Rhode Island is clearly the brainiest state in the country 😉
