Kasai posted a comment a while ago with a terrific list of media contacts, urging everyone to make their voices heard to fight the lies.

I’ve created a permanent page with all those contacts and added it to the sidebar on the right – click ‘Contact the media’ under the heading ‘Make your voice heard’.

If anyone wants to add contact details to the list, just post them in the comments here and I’ll update the page.

Speaker of the House John Boehner and House Majority leader Eric Cantor walk to the microphones to speak to the media after their meeting with President Barack Obama on the deficit and debt

Hey Rusty, nice Mohawk.

****

I mentioned the other night the frustration of regular visitors to the blog having their comments held up in ‘pending’, and not being freed from that prison until I stop snoring and return to my computer 😕

Just to explain, in an effort to keep out Tea creatures and Professional Leftie types, only those who register an account with WordPress and have a previously ‘approved’ comment on the blog will see their comments automatically appear. Honestly, if I didn’t do it that way the place would be overrun by hate!

Registering an account with WordPress – the hosts of this blog – is free (here) and you don’t have to start your own blog once you sign up. So, if you want, register an account, and make sure you log in before you comment here – that way your comments will appear immediately.

Sorry I wasn’t able to be around much today, will catch up soon. See you tomorrow 😉

oooops….

TPM: More evidence that Republicans are following Rep. Paul Ryan down a dark path when it comes to Medicare: a new CNN poll shows not even self-identified conservatives are in favor of Ryan’s scheme.

Like most recent polls, the CNN survey shows a vast majority of respondents less than thrilled with Ryan’s plan to end Medicare and replace it with a voucher system. Just 35% say they support it, while 58% say they oppose it….

Among conservatives, 54% are opposed. Among current seniors – who would not be affected by the changes in the Ryan Medicare plan – a full 74% are opposed, even after they’re told that Ryan’s plan affects Americans 55 years of age and younger. Even Republicans break against Ryan’s plan, though only slightly. Fifty percent oppose the plan, while 48% support it.

must lie harder, gop

Greg Sargent (Washington Post): Ever since Obama delivered his Arab Spring speech, conservatives have been engaged in a full-throttle campaign to distort and outright falsify his stance on Israel – a comically transparent effort to drive Jewish support away from the President.

Conservatives predicted that Obama’s position – which they widely distorted as a call for a return to pre-1967 borders – would cost him the support of top Jewish donors. But The New York Observer talked to the donors themselves, and found that the whole thing is totally bogus…

…It was painfully obvious that this whole meme was highly questionable from the start … has a single actual major Jewish donor broken publicly with the President? If The Observer – which reports extensively on the world of big Jewish power Dems – is to be believed, the answer is No…

What’s more, it’s important to recall that the claim that Jews are on the verge of breaking with Obama has been a frequent refrain for literally years now. Back in 2008 there were reams of stories about how McCain would be able to make successful inroads with this core Democratic constituency. In the end, according to exit polls, Obama won around 78 percent of the Jewish vote.

resurgence

White House: Two years ago, on June 1, 2009, General Motors filed for bankruptcy, backed by $30 billion in support from the federal government. The same day, in the same New York courthouse, a judge approved Chrysler’s plan to forge an alliance with Fiat and emerge from bankruptcy as a restructured business with an uncertain future.

Two years later the American auto industry is mounting a comeback.

In the year before GM and Chrysler filed for bankruptcy, the auto industry shed over 400,000 jobs.  Had President Obama failed to intervene, conservative estimates suggest that it would have cost at least an additional one million jobs and devastated vast parts of our nation’s industrial heartland.  Since GM and Chrysler Group emerged from bankruptcy in June 2009, the auto industry has added 115,000 jobs – the fastest pace of job growth in the auto industry since 1998.

House Speaker John Boehner, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Rep. Jeb Hensarling and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers outside the White House after their meeting with President Barack Obama regarding the debt ceiling.

According to GOPolitico, Paul Ryan told the President that he has been incorrectly describing the Republican congressman’s Medicare plan as a voucher system.

Ryan told reporters outside the White House that he “simply explained what our plan is” to Obama during a meeting in the East Room with the House GOP.

“It’s been misdescribed by the president and others,” Ryan said. He added that he wanted to clarify his position with Obama “so that in the future, he won’t mischaracterize it.”

Ryan sure knows all about mischaracterizing stuff, eh?

walter reed

NYT: On Memorial Day, Michelle Obama made an unannounced trip to visit the wounded at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Joao Silva of The New York Times was among those on whom she paid a call. “She came across as a kind and attentive person,” Mr. Silva said. She asked about the progress of his recovery and gave yo-yos, Frisbees and White House candies to his children, Isabel, 6, and Gabriel, 5.

Perhaps the most telling moment occurred before Mrs. Obama arrived. On learning of her pending visit, Mr. Silva made a point of putting on his prosthetic legs. “I wanted to be able to greet her standing up,” he said.
