Senator Cory Booker told Cross: “that getting votes from Republicans in Congress doesn’t determine whether a piece of legislation is bipartisan.”

“Don’t let Republicans in the Senate tell you that Joe Biden’s bill is not bipartisan,”
the Democratic senator said. “Raising the minimum wage is bipartisan. $1,400 checks is bipartisan. Aid to state and local governments has the support of every governor, Democrat and Republican.”

    —-Indian police have even:
“filed a case against climate activist Greta Thunberg for also daring to tweet in support of he farmers.”

Over 250 million people on strike on the same day…

“Agriculture is the largest employer in India, with nearly 50 percent of the country’s workforce employed in it in one form or another. But this crucial sector is reeling from a spate of farmer suicides – one of the highest rates in the world.” (France 24.com)

      Rep. Brad Sherman on Friday:
“Today I convened a meeting of the leadership of the India caucus with the Co-Chair Rep. Steve Chabot and Vice Chair Rep Ro Khanna to speak with the Ambassador of India Sandhu Taranjit reading the farmer’s demonstrations.”

When I was growing up, there was a lot of emphasis on having conviction, moral conviction, conviction of doing and standing for what is right, decent, noble, just and fair. Now, people stick their heads out to see which way the wind blows before they stand for something. This principal should have never caved to the parents to begin with. History is history. One doesn’t choose what to include in “history”; one can choose to ignore some aspect of it to one’s own peril but not if one is an educator!

“Let’s be clear. We are never going to get 10 Republicans to increase the minimum wage through ‘regular order,’
Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a staunch advocate of the $15 minimum wage.
“The only way to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour now
is to pass it with 51 votes through budget reconciliation.”
The Hill: “Democrats could advance the budgetary bill through the Senate even if every GOP senator objects,
as long as Democrats stick together.”

    Benen:
“US starts playing catch-up on threat from domestic extremists”
“Doing so in the Trump era wasn’t a realistic option, but the United States is now “finally catching up” to the threats posed by domestic extremists.”

NPR: “As the Pentagon wrestles with concerns over right-wing extremism among service members,
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has signed a memo directing commanding officers and supervisors to institute a one-day stand-down within the next 60 days to address extremism within the nation’s armed forces.”

“The New York Times reported day earlier,
The Biden administration will examine if additional F.B.I. agents are needed at the bureau’s field offices to address the threat of domestic violent extremism, a senior administration official said on Friday.”

“The day before that, new Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.) said his panel would do a “significant dive” into anti-government extremists in the United States, including questions surrounding radicalized groups’ possible connections to foreign allies.”

“And two weeks before that, of course, as NBC News reported, the Biden White House announced a major initiative aimed at overhauling the government’s approach to domestic terrorism, ordering intelligence agencies to conduct a “comprehensive threat assessment” into what officials say has become a pressing national security challenge.”

    “As part of the review,
the Office of the Director of National Intelligence will conduct a national threat assessment
in cooperation with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.”

Benen: “What can Dems do to get the US Postal Service back on track?”
“Given the USPS’s systemic difficulties, and public demands for improvements, reform efforts have a credible shot at success.”
“And while the president can’t oust DeJoy, the USPS governing board can.”
“But there are other remedies also on the table….”
