    I couldn’t agree more:

“What is driving this is a desire to protect President Obama, who they view as being under siege by Republicans. To have his back. A desire that will surely increase now that the House has authorized House Speaker John Boehner’s lawsuit against the president.”

Thanks to this tweet which led me to the WaPo article – I now know what went on in the House today…

Boehner’s decision to punt on the border bill set off a wild scene on the House floor during a vote on the highway bill. Dozens of moderate and mainstream conservative Republicans, furious with the far-right Republicans who torpedoed the legislation, surrounded Boehner and newly minted Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), demanding that they not leave town without voting on immigration legislation.

In response, leaders called an emergency 3 p.m. closed-door meeting to discuss a potential way forward, delaying the start of the August recess.

“America did not send us here to do nothing,” said Rep. Steve Southerland II (R-Fla.), a junior member of the leadership team facing a tough November election.

        July 31, 2014 at 6:15 pm

“facing a tough November election” – says it all – they care not about the border issues – nor the children – they care about joining the unemployed – who they have completely ignored by not extending UI benefits.

        July 31, 2014 at 6:19 pm

And this one – upset because she was “upgraded” – talk about the spoils of office

In a vivid example of the fluidity of the situation, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) said she was at Reagan National Airport preparing to board a flight home to Miami when she was called to return to the U.S. Capitol.
“I was upgraded because of my miles, I was so close!” she said

            July 31, 2014 at 6:34 pm

You do need to read it all – still full of “both sides” from the reporter but the gems actually come from the verbatim quotes from the GOPers. They truly “know not what they do – nor what they say”

I think this one got elected because “frequent flyer points and upgrades” – sigh.

Morning Ms Chips – you have been busy today. If it wasn’t so serious – I could laugh at Boehner through to the end of August.

Very telling (I think in the WAPO story) the more Boehner changed the bill to placate the right, the more democrats he lost. The original bill may have passed with democrat support. The later seems to be the only way Boehner can pass anything.

I’m older and it was a different time so back when I was still in Catholic high school in the early 1960s (ignore that part), we weren’t the ones cursing in my family … when I started 9th grade, my mother would say things to me like “You tell that goddamned nun tomorrow that I’m not taking that goddamned hem out of your gabardine uniform AGAIN just because she thinks it’s ‘too short.'” Of course, if I had told the goddamned nun that, my mother may or may not have stood by my side at the Joan-d’Arc-style trial.

Ha. These are stories her grandchildren and great grandchildren still cannot believe, because she later became a real sweetie, after we three daughters were raised and out of Catholic schools!

This was the era of mini skirts … the school rule (all girls’ Catholic high school for first two years) was your uniform had to be 14″ from the floor. The principal measured every girl on the first day of school that year, and I’m not kidding. I’m 5’9″ tall, so it was not my most attractive look during the era of mini skirts – Ha! – and it was an awful dark green gabardine material. After school, before joining our friends at the local luncheonette for a soda and a cigarette, where BOYS were, we’d use our uniform belts to hike up the skirts to proper length for the bleepin’ 1960s.

Don’t worry, I’m more or less over all that. Ha!

Chipsticks, these posts are fast and furious. I stepped for 10 minutes and returned to see another great one. Thanks much.

I love the development of The House of Tan Man’s caucus. This is back pay for supporting the teabaggers in their government shut-down. Now, there is no way to control them. In fact, the teabagger caucus controls Mr. Tan Man. What a charade! And to see the amount of money these losers are getting paid is frustrating. What are they doing for it??? They can’t even pass their own version of anything.

News just broke that Boehner shook down his Tea Party Republicans THIS MORNING for last-minute cash.

Love it. Happy to oblige. We have to CANTORIZED the rest of those teabaggers comes November.

“We get to clean up Israel’s shit.”

It is unfair that U.S. tax dollars will be used to pay for Israel’s destruction of Gaza. Israel should be responsible for paying for the destruction it inflicted on their occupied Gaza territory!

To be politically correct. Back in 1938, we were called Negro’s not African American.

I did just have one ugly memory come to mind about living in Lakeland … I hired a woman to clean for me one day, found her on Angie’s List or something. She had grown up in the area, and was white – in her 40s. Since I was new there, she gave me a little history of her own, including mentioning a “town hanging tree” that was still somewhere in the city, possibly near a school or something. Not sure if that were the case or she just made it up, but in a controlled voice, I asked why it hadn’t been cut down. She said, with a half-smile, “It’s still a perfectly good tree.”

This was 2008. The reason she brought it up was that I had gone into my “I support Barack Obama … are you voting in November” mode (I even hit up the cable guys that year, after I moved in, poor things), and she said she “never” voted, so I gave her more of my thoughts and basically stopped talking to her after she interjected how proud she was of the tree, paid her, and obviously never called her again.

The face of ugly, right in my home. A memory I guess I had pushed down, but still there.

Waiting for that pencil necked geek’s column lamenting Boner’s “competency problem”. If the man who got healthcare reform passed, eliminated Bin Laden, saved the auto industry and saved the nation from a second Great Depression can be so cavalierly deemed incompetent, what term would describe Boner? Or are only African-American’s competency questioned in polite society? Also waiting for all the polls deeming Boner “worst Speaker of the House EVER”. This has been a very bad day for the GOP/MSM as reality keeps trumping the propaganda.
