One scientific discussion I watched on masks was so poignant for me. Wearing a cloth mask can help me protect you but not me. Wearing a construction style N95 mask with a valve can protect me and not you. Wearing an N95 mask can protect me and you. With the outbreak of insanity that Trump is promoting where no one wears a mask at the risk of being targeted for abuse we protect no one.
I hope, since we don’t have leadership that can help us see the importance of protecting mutually, that we can at least get leadership from somewhere that can help us protect ourselves and our community at the same time by all wearing N95 masks.
If I ran things I would do everything I could to make enough N95 masks for everyone including needing to replace them regularly. I would educate the public on proper fitting and handling just like the medical folks do and make sure there are helpers for those that need the help to learn or perform this task. If safety glasses are important as well to protect people then I would make sure they are also worn. For those that have to deal with the public I would outline a protocol for each setting so it is safe, maybe face shields, disposable gowns so that virus cannot be taken home to loved ones. I’d gladly learn to do this properly and help in my community to instruct others.
If there are people who are not caring enough or strong enough to over come the misguided messaging from Trump’s administration, at least for those of us that want to be safe and willing to do what is necessary to protect ourselves and our neighbors, what we do could still make a huge difference. Maybe the public shaming could work toward good this time instead of for evil as well.
