One of the greatest honors of my life is being a proud Chicagoan—a daughter of the South Side. When it came time to decide where Barack and I would build the Obama Presidential Center, we knew it had to be in the place we call home. We can’t wait to see this project come to life. pic.twitter.com/JOC6Vcfeji

Today, we officially broke ground on the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago. Michelle and I can’t imagine a better investment in the city we love, and generations of young leaders who will help create change. pic.twitter.com/cmyD0pD4jy

As first lady of the United States, and the first Black person to serve in the role, Obama "has emerged as one of the most influential and iconic women of the 21st century," a statement from the National Women's Hall of Fame says. https://t.co/0mO4EVuqaJ

As has always been true at key moments in history, it’s going to depend on young people to go out there and rewrite what is possible.

I couldn’t be prouder of all the young people leading that change right now. Here’s my advice for the Class of 2020: https://t.co/XD2n7LEihk

So much has changed so quickly. And if any of you are confused or scared or angry—or just plain overwhelmed—I just want you to know that you aren’t alone. I am feeling all that, too. And I have a few things I want to say about it. https://t.co/kUZeBzC8xP pic.twitter.com/0zOQpEcX9K

After a lifetime of reaching for the stars, today, Katherine Johnson landed among them. She spent decades as a hidden figure, breaking barriers behind the scenes. But by the end of her life, she had become a hero to millions—including Michelle and me. pic.twitter.com/isG29nwBiB

From 2015, President @BarackObama says Katherine Johnson "was a pioneer who broke the barriers of race and gender, showing generations of young people that everyone can excel in math and science, and reach for the stars." RIP. pic.twitter.com/s05hgjKpMK

I’ve always been so inspired by the military caregivers who give so much to care for our nation’s wounded warriors. I’m thankful for the work that @dolefoundation does every day to celebrate and support our caregivers. I hope you’ll find a way to do the same in your community. pic.twitter.com/qpoIYINoNv

Former First Lady Michelle Obama became teary as she accepted the Tom Hanks Caregiver Champion award for service to military caregivers on Thursday night at the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Hidden Heroes gala.
Opening up during a speech at the Washington, D.C. event, the former first lady said she first became aware of the difficulties for spouses, parents, and children of wounded and ill vets while on the campaign trail when her husband was first running for president.
“You all changed me forever,” she said. “You have changed the way I see service, you’ve changed the way I see war, you’ve changed the way I see this entire country. Whether we simply talk about the values we like to pride ourselves on, values like duty and honor and patriotism, or if we actually live them out.”
