why is the punditry class so eager to push the “pivot” narrative and even praise him for just sneezing or breathing as “a breakthrough”
The pundits are paid by their corporate masters, at the end of the day, to be Trump enablers.
If we had a truly ‘liberal’ media, Trump’s shortcomings would have been as talked-about as Hillary’s e-mails.
So they fall all over themselves for an excuse to label him “presidential”, and they look like fools when he turns around in his very next action and does something un-presidential. But they ignore it and pretend this is like any other presidency.
I suspect that Schumer and Pelosi are aware what an unstable liar they are dealing with, so I wonder if they aren’t playing some divide-and-conquer since they can only do so much without a majority in either the House or the Senate.
Not until it is inked, signed, and still standing after lawsuits, will I have any faith in this. As soon as Fox pundits and MAGA Twitter speak out against this, #45 will be saying and doing something different.

Thank God his mother saw to it that he can swim. Too many A-A’s do not know how, not sure of why this is and I am A-A. I have had a few lessons over the years, but other than being able to float and never having had a fear of putting my head under water, this is as far as I have gone. Almost all of the adults in my extended family do not know how to swim. We did, however, make sure that my nephew learned how. Completing my swim lessons is on my bucket list.
I hope you find someone to teach you. This is literally a life skill that everyone should know… if my daughter was near you, she would teach you:) start with the YMCA. Do it. You will not regret it
Thanks for letting us know that you fared well through Hurricane Irma — was very glad to hear the good news. 🙂
My only experience with a natural disaster was with the 1994 Northridge earthquake — I lived about approximately 15 miles from the epicenter, as the crow flies. It was truly terrifying — felt like it was getting stronger and stronger, and you have no idea if when the shaking (i.e., the whole house violently shaking from side-to-side) is going to end. But I was grateful that the quake struck at 4:30 am, which meant that daylight was in the foreseeable future — and the electricity and phones came back on before nightfall that evening.
I learned how to swim at the downtown San Diego YMCA when I was about 5 years old. My instructor was a young African American man — think he might have been a sailor or an ex-sailor — so it didn’t occur to me until much later that he might have been an exception (I’m the same age as you).
I wonder if historically there’s been a lack of community facilities (like the YMCA) available to young A-A’s to learn this important skill? If so, hopefully that lack has changed in the past 50 years.
When I was very young, they drained the public pools rather than let A-A children swim in them. I was raises across the street from the A-A branch of the YMCA, but my family could not afford to send three kids to the camp where the swimming lessons were given and this skill was not a priority. One brother learned through friends and trial and error, then had his skills honed when he joined the Navy. The funny thing is that I have always been around water and no qualms about going in, usually with trusted friends (all of whom were white): canoeing, sailing, even scuba lessons. The majority of Black women do not swim because they are concerned about their hair ( it would take too long and too much space to explain about all of this). I was very impressed with the story that Simone Manuel ( individual gold and silver medals in swimming from Rio Summer Olympics) told about when she expressed concerns about her hair and swimming, her mother said in essence, don’t worry about it or let it get in the way of what you love. Few A-A women wear their hair in wash and go styles that allow for a very active outdoor life. Every decision, from sending little girls to go-away camp, to sports, to sex, to dating men of other ethnicities is framed by the question of what “to do” with our hair. Getting the so-called big chop and wearing one’s hair naturally (I did this 21 years ago) is not a simple decision for many women.
Thanks for the explanation, CEB, especially about the hair concerns. Can understand how traumatic it would be to make the decision to “go natural” (I had long, waist-length hair well into my 20s, but now I love having short hair (the shorter the better — dries fast, don’t have to worry about getting hair in my face or caught on something, etc.). It’s too bad though, I think A-A women look spectacular with natural hairstyles, and when they wear turbans and scarves look even more fabulous.
Good point about YMCA membership fees — have no idea how much they cost, but back in the day, seemed like *everything* was more affordable, LOL.
I’m AA, and my father never learned how to swim. He wasn’t allowed to use the pool when his high-school class went on a field trip to NYC in the mid-40’s.
The SYSTEMATIC opposition to Blacks being allowed the opportunity to swim.
Slaves, of course, didn’t know how to swim.
Post slavery, most Blacks lived in the Jim Crow South, where facilities for swimming were WHITES ONLY. Where did Black folks get the opportunity to learn how to swim, except for public lakes that allowed COLORED folks around it.
In the North, it has been outlined, by several folks, the pattern of Negros not allowed in Park District facilities. Or, if Park District facilities existed in Negro neighborhoods, they were substandard. The reason for the Negro YMCA and YWCA because they were not allowed in the ‘ regular’ YMCA/YWCA.
Who was going to teach Black students? Not enough Black teachers for swimming either.
Black people just didn’t show up not knowing how to swim out of the blue.
True. While this is changing some, it all depends upon where you live. The high school that I attended added a pool not too long after I graduated and is open for the neighborhood, especially during the summer. The high school where I taught for most of my teaching career has a pool and as its population became more Black over the years, more and more kids have had the opportunity to learn to swim. However, there are still many middle class A-A families in which the kids may know how to swim, but the parents do not.
YEP, I beat NO ONE in the WH (Sarah Hucklebee) will complain about this nor in the white-male controlled media can dispute it because we saw it with our own eyes with Jackie Robinson for playing in the major league with whites and Hank Aaron when he had the audacity to break the home-run record of a white player held up as a GOD. We see it in EVERY facet of life in Amerikkka, be it sports, films, business, or government where a woman or a minority is the “first” this or that in a area where it was exclusively white males.

Rachel Maddow rounds up a collection of new reporting in the Trump Russia investigation, including new revelations about former Trump NSA Mike Flynn and Special Counsel Robert Mueller looking into Flynn’s son.
What difference would this make to Mueller? Mueller surely doesn’t care about Trump cozying up to the Democrats on a few occasions when he has so much overwhelming evidence of Trump’s wrongdoing vis-a-vis Russia.
Anything that is give/granted can be taken away (see DACA as the latest example). We fight to make things law and we fight to make sure that the laws are carried out in their full intents and defended. Knowledge, vigilance and civic action are daily requirements in the fight for freedom, justice, and equality.
This is why I support BLM, Kapaernick and Jamielle Hill. We need more people speaking the truth even if the racists, White Supremacists and the general public doesn’t want to hear it. It’s the least we can do as Trump is championing bigotry and the MSM is normalizing him.

While it won’t happen in this Republican-controlled Congress, Democrats should push this as a reason to vote for them next November. Fix and protect the ACA in the meantime until they flip Congress. #Goals.
I am waiting for Sanders to admit that because of the ACA Americans got a chance to experience a level of healthcare security that they had not previously and because of that going for universal healthcare was made easier. I agree they should fix the ACA because that it is in trouble under Trump. I am tired of Sanders claiming to be the conscious and the wings beneath the democratic party when he could not get anything done all these years. The ACA took us halfway down the track. If it was up to Sanders we would waving signs about universal healthcare while still standing at the starting gate.
Good evening TODVille
Love the tweet. Thanks, Tireless NW.
I think Democrats need to be very careful trusting Trump. He’s a snake, and sooner or later a snake will bite your ass off.

Dems are being desperately gullible here. Jeez, look at his track record, dems.
