Chips, thanks, thanks, thanks for these clips. Our FLOTUS looks fabulous. She has the ability to look like a queen and talk like your next door neighbor. I just love her and admire her more each day.

‘the ability to look like a queen and talk like your next door neighbor’
A good description of Flotus. The beauty of Flotus is that we can also comfortably and truthfully say she has the ability to look like your next door neighbour and talk like a world leader ( πŸ˜† came to the end of my sentence and realized the queen hardly speaks and couldn’t think of a suitable substitute. πŸ˜‰ ) Morning, JackieG.

    Good Morning TOD. TGIF!!!

    Did You Know That?

After the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr major cities like Chicago, Detroit, LA etc., had all experienced social unrest. The need for an injection of hope and inspiration was at the forefront in the African-American community. It appeared Blacks everywhere had reached their peak with the injustice in this Country. Recognizing the need to address this problem and sensing that Black business leaders were better able to address issues and concerns in the community where they live and work the McDonald’s Corporation offered a Franchise to a black man. The recipient of opportunity was Herman Petty opening his first restaurant in December 1968 on 67th and Stony Island on the Southside of Chicago.

Mr. Petty went on to own numerous other McDonald’s locations and was a founding member of the NBMOA (National Black McDonald’s Operators Association). Today there are over 300 African American Owner Operators of McDonald’s nationwide.

Happy Friday, EVERYone! That’s a cute apology you got there, COS! Should definitely wipe the slate of the transgressor clean, for now.

Chips, is that video clip I passed last night’s show? Don’t bother to answer, I’ll go check for myself. In the meantime, do give Mama Chips and Danny-O a hug each from me. Thanks!

Is it just me or is anyone else bothered by all the scare fundraising coming from the DSCC, the DCCC and the DNC. I’m sick of hearing about Koch brothers money–I get it, the evil ones are trying to buy elections. But this does not motivate me to give. What does motivate me is good candidates and enthusiasm–a focus on what we can do together, not on how desperately hard it is. Like everyone else, I think Priorities USA should buckle down and pour effort and money into 2014. But I’m not going to buy the doom scenario. We have the incomparable political skills and fundraising genius of PBO and of FLOTUS and that beats Hillary and her Pac any day of the week. Yesterday at a meeting of progressives, I started to see signs that people were picking up the vibes about the Koch brothers and what a barrier they pose. And I heard of one possible congressional candidate who decided to skip 2014 and wait for the Hillary wave in 2016. To that I say, good luck, mister, you lost your chance for dedicated support from me and a lot of other people. From now on, we have to do everything in our power to instill a ‘yes we can’ attitude in Democrats and in all the voters we contact. We’ve had higher hurdles to surmount before and we’ve surmounted them. Let’s lift our heads and pick up our feet and get the job done.

I have not received any requests for donations in a long time….

Maybe because I send them back with a note saying I will give when I am convinced the Dems have PBO’s back and that I will donate directly to the candidates of my choosing until then.

      • February 21, 2014 at 8:50 am

I continue to get multiple email daily and several robo-calls weekly.

What I’m starting to see is that I’ve been added to email distribution lists for a number of candidates who are making primary bids. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. But one email noted that I was receiving it because I had either signed up to be on their mailing list or had attended a function that had been sponsored on behalf of the candidate — neither of which had happened. The falseness of that claim was a little annoying

I don’t read them anymore. They need to change their tactics for donations.

House Speaker John Boehner and his wife have bought a luxury condominium in the exclusive enclave of Marco Island, FL, USA Today reports.

The Fix notes the purchase “has increased chatter that the House Speaker is planning his exit strategy from Washington when the 113th Congress draws to a close later this year.”

The framing is exactly right, yet I was disappointed that the article did not really show how Christie made things worse. Yes, I’m aware it’s par for the course that headlines don’t necessarily have to truly reflect the story.

There were easily a couple of hundred local Sandy victims in the room, all wanting to know why they still can’t get into their homes 16 months after the hurricane.

You also have to take into consideration that in the hour and a half time frame only 10 or so questions were asked and half had nothing to do with Sandy or other scandals.

Of course, these idjits elected this corrupt thug. Why wouldn’t they?

And now he’s taken off to Texas – or somewhere – to yet another GOP conference – while too many are still homeless – and his administration is in the midst of a serious political scandal. is this Custer’s last stand or does he seriously think he will still be Governor in 1916?

I don’t always agree with Booman – but he does have a way with words

“I have some advice for the Quad City Times. I understand your desire to replace Brent Bozell as one of your syndicated columnists, considering the fact that he wasn’t even the one writing his columns. But replacing Mr. Bozell with George Will is like trading a cerebral hemorrhage for a lobotomy.”

There’s only another couple of paragraphs so I won’t quote them – but his take on the National Review is spot on.

    From chips land

Presenter Graham Norton has called Irish broadcaster RTE’s decision to pay opponents of gay marriage an 85,000 euros settlement “absolutely moronic”.

It came after Catholic lobby group the Iona Institute and two prominent Irish journalists threatened legal action after being described as homophobic on an episode of the Saturday Night Show.

Norton told Irish magazine Hot Press he was “furious” about RTE’s decision.

He also said gay marriage opponents were “out of touch” with new Ireland.

“I’m not registered to vote in Ireland but I do pay the licence fee there,” said Norton, adding that he was “furious that some of my money has gone to these idiots”.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and opposition protesters have agreed to an early presidential poll before the end of the year.

The election is part of a deal to end the country’s political crisis.

The deal has not been published, but Mr Yanukovych referred to a national unity government and constitutional changes reducing the president’s power.

The compromise came after hours of talks between mediated by three European foreign ministers.
