AFP: President Barack Obama’s personal aide, gatekeeper and basketball sparring partner Reggie Love says that one of the coolest jobs in the world sometimes has its downside: No air conditioning.

“The thing that used to kill me is that the guy loves to ride around with the AC off in the summertime,” Love said in an interview with an ESPN sports television network to be broadcast Tuesday on ABC television.

“And I get hot. I start sweating. And I’m like, it’s 80 degrees in this car. I’m going to pass out,” said Love, 30, who is due to step down later this year to attend the University of Pennsylvania’s elite Wharton School of Business.

…. Love told ESPN he was grateful to be a “very long passenger on an amazing ride” and that he’ll miss quiet moments with the president, including an evening ritual when Obama checks in to say what the next day holds in store.

“I know definitely I’m going to miss that,” Love said. “He’s been like big brother to me, a mentor. I’ve learned so much about life from him.”

February 2009: Vice President Joseph Biden shares a moment with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s mother Dorothy Rodham during a ceremonial swearing-in for Sec. Clinton at the State Department

Asked about the death of Hillary Clinton’s mother today, President Obama called her “a strong, determined, gifted person”. “For her to have lived the life that she did and to see her daughter succeed in the pinnacle of public service in this country, I’m sure was deeply satisfying to her.”

KGO: Scott Olsen, the 25-year-old Iraq war veteran who was injured by a projectile during Tuesday’s “Occupy Oakland” demonstration, remains in fair condition.

On Saturday, a spokesperson for Highland Hospital said Olsen …  had been transferred to another undisclosed hospital.

The spokesperson also said documentary filmmaker Michael Moore tried to visit Olsen on Saturday. The hospital said the family has asked for Olsen’s privacy and asked Moore not to try to visit Olsen and the hospital again.

“We have a very, very polite message to Mr. Moore: Mr. Olsen is not here,” the hospital spokesperson said, “and if you do find out where he is, the Olsen family doesn’t want you to come there either.”

More here

As BWD put it on Twitter, what a “disgusting opportunist” Moore is. What on earth made him think that the Olsen family would want him at Scott’s bedside? Especially after they had asked for privacy? Oh boy, I used to love Michael Moore….

weather-watch

Let’s hope this is a bit over-dramatic … I just heard on the news that if the weather is bad in Ireland on Monday – and the forecast says it will be – the President might not make it to Moneygall after all. Because he has so little time in Ireland, he has to fly to Moneygall by helicopter – the road trip there and back to Dublin would take too long. So, if the weather makes flying impossible, then he probably won’t make it out of Dublin.

Moneygall is going to be doing a lot of weather-forecast watching this weekend 😦

we the people! (well, a couple of dozen of us)

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann speaks to millions of Tea Party Patriots at the “Continuing Revolution” rally on Capitol Hill, March 31

Steve Benen: Tea party organizers had high hopes for their rally today in Washington, DC – high enough hopes that they arranged for Fox to give it live coverage.

Then something sad happened. Just a few dozen people showed up. And Fox, naturally, blamed the weather.

Sen. Rand Paul, a Tea Party favorite who has an incentive to exaggerate the crowd size, said 200 people showed up, but if the media footage is at all accurate, even that pathetic number is inflated.

Put in this way: the number of reporters and Republican lawmakers, when combined, rivaled the size of the attendees. That’s not good.

As for Fox News blaming the weather, let’s not forget that tens of thousands of progressive activists showed up in the snow in Wisconsin a few weeks back. With federal spending on the line, today’s Tea Party crowd was less than 1% as big … because of a little rain? That’s just sad.

Chances are, this little get together will be forgotten by dinner time, but part of me wonders if it might end up having the opposite of the intended effect. The goal was to offer a right-wing show of force – with a shutdown deadline looming, lawmakers were supposed to think to themselves, “I better not cross those throngs of activists who gathered at the Capitol on March 31.”

But the point is, practically no one showed up. How many members of Congress will be afraid to cross “those tens of activists” who were on hand today?
