June 2, 2010 – Pete Souza: “Paul McCartney sings “Michelle” to First Lady Michelle Obama during an event honoring McCartney as winner of the annual Gershwin Prize. I knew this was a special moment but didn’t have a full realization of its significance until when I later heard the President telling others that his wife could never have imagined as an African-American girl growing up on the South side of Chicago that someday a Beatle would be singing this song to her as First Lady of the United States.”

Last month, President Obama awarded Paul McCartney the annual Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Artists from all the genres and backgrounds paid tribute to the music legend with a concert hosted by the President and First Lady at the White House. Take a break and go behind-the-scenes with the Jonas Brothers as they prepare for and perform the Beatles classic “Drive My Car” for President Obama and Sir Paul.
Paul McCartney (after receiving the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, a lifetime achievement award bestowed by the Library of Congress):
“After the last eight years, it’s great to have a President who knows what a library is.”
Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio): “Like millions of other Americans, I have always had a good impression of Paul McCartney and thought of him as a classy guy, but I was surprised and disappointed by the lack of grace and respect he displayed at the White House. I hope he’ll apologize to the American people for his conduct which demeaned him, the White House and President Obama.”
Teach him a lesson, burn his damn records!
Oh, wait…
🙂
Including….the President visits the Gulf coast, celebrates Memorial Day, meets President Garcia of Peru, meets General Odierno, speaks at Carnegie Mellon University and hosts Paul McCartney at the White House. Plus …wait for it … a two second clip of Bo climbing the steps of Air Force One. Whoooo hoooo!
