berlusconi …. bonkers

I have only two words of Italian – Paolo Maldini – so I have no clue what’s been said in this video. 😳

But read below, and watch the ‘WTF’ body language of the President!

Reuters: Silvio Berlusconi’s latest international gaffe, when he complained to a bemused President Barack Obama about his problems with magistrates, was met with mockery, embarrassment and scorn at home on Friday.

Obama looked baffled when television cameras picked up the Italian prime minister buttonholing him at a Group of Eight meeting in France and treating him to one of his trade mark tirades about magistrates who have hauled him into court for four concurrent trials.

Microphones picked up Berlusconi telling Obama during a pause in the G8 meeting: “We have presented a justice reform that is fundamental to us. In Italy we have almost a dictatorship of leftist judges.”

“The prime minister has clearly lost his head,” said left-leaning La Repubblica newspaper in a front page editorial.

Pierluigi Bersani, leader of the largest opposition party, quipped that Berlusconi was probably asking Obama for NATO military action against the judges…..

d’oh!

Foknewschannel: Twitter tells us little about @KatieS … she attended The White House Correspondents’ Dinner with a plan … Tomorrow’s goal: bring a copy of @barackobama‘s birth certificate and have the Donald autograph it.

Ms. Stanton added that Trump didn’t hear a word she said as she asked him to sign the President’s Birth Certificate. But, as ever, thinking with his hair, he did it:

it’s peacetime, you know

Steve Benen: In a published op-ed yesterday, former Gov. Mitt Romney slammed President Obama for launching “one of the biggest peacetime spending binges in American history.” It’s a bizarre argument for several reasons, not the least of which is that this isn’t peacetime.

After this caused a bit of a stir yesterday afternoon, Romney’s team walked it back. As it turns out, the claim wasn’t intended to be a factual statement.

That word “peacetime” doesn’t really jibe, does it? Team Romney has an explanation for that: It was a mistake. “He meant to say since World War II,” said Romney’s PAC spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, in an e-mail.

….Jed Lewison didn’t find the explanation especially persuasive: “Uh, say what now? How do you go from making a point about “peacetime” spending to saying you meant post-WWII? And how do you make that mistake in the first place?”

….I was curious to see how (and whether) the media picked up on this … Would it be enough to get political reporters’ attention? Not really; major media outlets generally didn’t care….

I’m curious – if an inexperienced Democratic candidate with no background in foreign policy or military affairs described a time of multiple wars as “peacetime,” would he or she ever live it down? Or would it be seen as evidence that Dems lack credibility on international affairs?

nice

Thank you Me4Obama 😉

ThinkProgress: In July 2008, a researcher “looking to dig up dirt on Obama” instead came across a birth announcement from 1961 in the Honolulu Advertiser documenting the birth of then presidential candidate Barack Obama in the state. For many, the announcement, together with Obama’s birth certificate, conclusively proved that Obama was born in the United States and is eligible to run for president.

Rumored presidential hopeful Donald Trump isn’t convinced. On CNN’s State of the Union he claimed that Obama’s grandparents planted the announcement to obtain welfare benefits:

TRUMP: The grandparents put that [birth announcement] in [the newspaper] because obviously they want him to be a United States citizen because in those days, people were much more proud than they are today unfortunately for being a United States citizen…. So they wanted him to be a citizen of the United States, for that purpose, and also for hospitalization, for welfare….

…the birth information printed in the Honolulu Advertiser always came directly from the state health department (via the local hospital), not Obama’s grandparents or relatives.

It’s also worth noting that since Obama’s mother was a U.S. citizen, he was automatically conferred citizenship and all of its “assets” no matter where he was born, thus making him eligible anyway for the benefits Trump claims his family committed fraud to obtain. Unless his grandparents somehow knew that baby Obama would one day want to run for president, there wouldn’t really be a reason for his family to fabricate a convoluted lie regarding his birthplace.

laughing stock

Thank you Nonya for reminding me of this post from December 2009 – here’s yet another person who doesn’t remember the President from his youth in Hawaii 😉

WZAK: A former Manoa resident sent President Barack Obama an old photo of the two of them taken while they were third-grade classmates at Noelani Elementary School, requesting an autograph more than six months ago. He recently received the autographed picture back, as well as a personally signed thank-you note.

Scott Inoue, now a chiropractor in Stockton, Calif., said the small, black-and-white photo had been stashed away for almost 40 years at his childhood home in Manoa. For some reason, Inoue said, as he was growing up he always remembered that photo and wondered what became of “Barry”.

‘newt & callista’s excellent adventures’

Warning: if you have a weak stomach do not click play

From Slate

I really only have one question after watching this: Why does Callista looked permanently amazed? Is it Newt’s magnificence that leaves her wide-eyed with wonder?

good grief……..

Really insightful, scholarly reporting from Politico’s Julie Mason on the President’s speech tonight.

Kidding.

The race-obsessed Mason listened (presumably) to this incredibly important speech (you know, about America’s intervention when innocents were being slaughtered by a murderous dictator, and trivial stuff like that) and she shared two observations:

(1) The President used three teleprompters

and

(2) “The president also appeared to be wearing makeup – a concession to television he reportedly loathes and goes to some lengths to avoid. The fact they got some on him is another of those small but revealing clues about how seriously the White House took this speech.”

Honest, I’m not making this up.

I’m just surprised she didn’t comment on the color of the President’s tie. (“Commie red!!!) Or complain that he didn’t produce his birth certificate half-way through the speech.

Truly, this woman is just an embarrassment, a pitiful joke – she should be working for a Birther magazine that gives make-up tips. I think it’s fair to guess she hadn’t heard of Libya until last week.

****

PS Look at the photo and caption used for her bile tonight:

Seriously Julie, you need to take hate-management classes 😉

india says: “wtf?”

I know, you won’t like seeing a video of the bird-brain-bozo here, but this one’s worth seeing, it completely cracked me up. Watch the faces of the audience in India as she talks about how she would have handled Libya (you know, that ‘little South American country ruled by Kernull Gadaffy Duck’). It’s like the reaction of an audience to a comedian whose jokes just aren’t very funny. And keep an eye on the guy putting on his glasses, at 0:58 (top right), he can’t take any more of the twaddle, so he takes out his phone. He probably dialed 911.

Honest, she doesn’t even make me mad any more. She’s just an idiot, and even most right-wingers are beginning to realize it.

(Ha, even Politico seemed to find it all a bit embarrassing: She struggled to provide pointed answers to several of interviewer Aroon Purie’s questions on foreign affairs.. Purie, who introduced her to the gathering, poked fun at Palin’s “creative vocabulary” and her polarizing place in American politics in his introduction of the former governor.

He frequently made clear that not everyone in the United States has a positive view of the former Alaska governor. “Either you love her or hate her,” he said.

Alluding to Palin’s penchant for sometimes venturing into unique terminology, Purie said “if I may be forgiven for saying so, she has a creative vocabulary. “Governor Palin, I hope you don’t refudiate me,” he said, smirking to an amused crowd.)

Update: Thank you Sim for posting this video in the comments – hopefully, in time, I’ll be able to wash the coffee spray off my computer screen:
