I agree, so I put captions on it. This is Yusuf Abdul-Qadir, director of the local chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union, speaking to Mayor Walsh at City Hall, Syracuse, N.Y., Thursday, July 2, 2020, about the People's Agenda for Police Reform. pic.twitter.com/QO9ZH0d3xZ

I did not fully appreciate the issue with "most cops don't live in the neighborhood they police" until seeing this https://t.co/59HACmmLy0

“Black communities fund the suburbs.” Excellent point. I hadn’t thought about it in this context.

They become literal invaders. They invade our communities from the outside and treat the ppl there like insurgents. Then go back home outside of the city at the end of the day.

Very well said: “We are funding the suburbs” - reminder that “defund the police” means reallocate the money. Keep the money in the city and reinforce COMMUNITY policies.

They constantly trot out rhetoric about how they serve communities but refuse to live among the people who they police and pay their salaries. We also pay their suits for killing us. Time to put their bad apple theory to the test and make them pay settlements from their pensions.

I've said this for 40 yrs. I am from and live in Houston. Our police department has been monitored more than once by the DoJ for violating the constitutional rights of the citizens HPD is supposed to serve. TAXPAYERS end up paying for their damages. Enough. Make THEM pay.
