Washington Post: Barry Manilow is setting the record straight: Heâs an Obama guy for 2012, not a Ron Paul-ite.
In Tuesdayâs roundup of how the Celebrity Primary is shaping up, we cited Manilowâs vocal enthusiasm for the libertarian Republican. âI agree with just about everything [Paul] says,â the crooner told the Daily Caller in a widely-circulated interview. (Of course, the Internet seems to widely circulate pretty much anything about Ron Paul.)
Manilow wrote us a pleasant note to clarify:
âAlthough I agree with some of what Ron Paul says, I am not actually endorsing him in the 2012 presidential race, nor have I ever told anyone that I was.â Seems that while Manilow made an eye-catching $2,300 contribution to the Texas congressmanâs 2008 campaign, he also â like many showbiz colleagues â sprinkled cash equally on Obama, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton during the primary, plus $28,500 to the Obama Victory Fund. And he plans to vote for Obama next year. âHe loves his president,â a rep said.
