I felt inspired and hopeful after speaking with students in @TheTellingRoom’s Young Writers & Leaders program. I wrote #APromisedLand in part because I hoped to reach young people like those in this group—the unique voices of a new generation, energized and unafraid to dream big. https://t.co/LP1Ri8Epva
'No matter what somebody’s accomplished—the greatest novelist, the greatest surgeons, the greatest political activists—they didn’t start that way' — @BarackObama met with writing students to talk about their ambitions and share his own experience of growing up between cultures pic.twitter.com/6u6i5mPP5m
Last year, I sat down with my good friend Bruce @Springsteen for a long and meaningful conversation that touched on so much of what we’re all dealing with these days. I’m excited to share it with you over the next few weeks: https://t.co/sQACD08AWxpic.twitter.com/biMoxCLhAG
I want to share this inspiring book about the events leading up to the 1960 election, from Dr. King's imprisonment to student activism in Atlanta to JFK's campaign. It's a story we can all learn from—a story of overlooked heroes and the power each of us has to create change. pic.twitter.com/yIaNJpRq7M
Great news: Thanks to President Biden, starting today, you can go to https://t.co/ob1Ynoesod to sign up for health insurance. If you’re uninsured or hoping to change plans, here’s a good article that can help you figure out if you’re eligible. https://t.co/E2hibv2vRH
During our time in the White House, Michelle and I were proud to display artwork from artists like Alma Thomas and Charles Alston—whose work provoked thought, challenged our assumptions, and shaped how we define our narrative as a country. https://t.co/eDd76kmlc1
When Jackie Robinson faced down slurs, spiked cleats, and pitches aimed at his head—and stole home anyway—he didn't only change baseball. He changed the world and paved the way for others, including me. On his birthday, we’re called not only to honor that legacy but build on it. pic.twitter.com/d2KDDZNWEN
.@EkpeUdoh—I saw your tweet about A Promised Land and thought I’d respond. For me, the title of my book is about the work we need to do to realize the promise of becoming a more perfect union, even if we don’t get there in our lifetimes. Glad to see your book club is reading it! https://t.co/aVRMxwt5JHpic.twitter.com/Uz3LMAWD2z
What struck me every time I spent time with Cicely Tyson was not necessarily her star power—though that was evident enough—it was her humanity. Just by walking into a room, she had this way of elevating everyone around her. pic.twitter.com/o6VAV63wqd
In her extraordinary career, Cicely Tyson was one of the rare award-winning actors whose work on the screen was surpassed only by what she was able to accomplish off of it. She had a heart unlike any other—and for 96 years, she left a mark on the world that few will ever match. pic.twitter.com/JRsL3zlKtP

The art of rewriting an entire narrative is rare – but #CicelyTyson did so. She infused film with the power of transfiguration, showing black women, marginalized women, underestimated women in their abundant glory. And the world will never be the same. God’s rest to you, madam.
I'm devastated. My heart is just broken. I loved you so much!! You were everything to me! You made me feel loved and seen and valued in a world where there is still a cloak of invisibility for us dark chocolate girls. You gave me permission to dream… https://t.co/7V7AFZtFLapic.twitter.com/l2TLfM4weX
A stage & screen icon, Cicely Tyson used her great talent to tell the stories of Black women and Black history with dignity and grace. Through her acclaimed performances, her philanthropy & more, her life will continue to inspire generations.

In a new memoir, legendary actress Cicely Tyson is opening up about her impressive career and personal life.@GayleKing caught up with 96-year-old @IAmCicelyTyson to reflect on the defining moments in her life, starting with a reporter’s question that caught her off guard. pic.twitter.com/86xvScQ4ys
This one hurts, today we honor and celebrate the life of one of the greatest to ever do it. Thank you Cicely Tyson. Rest in great power. pic.twitter.com/vwchWT5512
Cicely Tyson was a force of nature and and a transcendent voice and talent. There is no way to fully capture how much she meant to the world. Sleep well, queen. pic.twitter.com/MDp9LR8CSb
Cicely Tyson is one of those legends you’d hoped we would have forever. And you knew it was a silly dream but you dreamt it anyway. This day is hard for so many reasons. This is a massive loss. Thank you for your gifts, queen.
I’m a bit heartbroken at the moment, but Cicely lived an incredibly beautiful life. She shared her art with us every chance she could. We have so many moving performances of hers to cherish and now, we have her memoir.
I’m glad Cicely Tyson lived a full life and she received her flowers in real time. What a journey her life has been and I’m so thankful for her presence and her contributions on screen.
What an inspiring and beautiful woman. Heaven truly gained an Angel🕊
