    Happy Birthday ACA !!

    • March 24, 2023 at 11:09 am

Since Democrats enacted the Affordable Care Act 13 years ago, we have built on its strong foundation. In the last Congress, we passed legislation saving families an average of $2,400 a year on their premiums, while slashing the cost of prescription drugs for our seniors.

The ACA has stood for the last 13 years as a pillar of health and financial security for America’s working families. Now, America is healthier, because in America, health care is more affordable and accessible than ever before.

The ACA saved me financially. During my cancer surgery and treatments, I exhausted my 401k and savings and was on the brink of debtors hell. I was spared thanks to President Obama and the ACA. I will forever be grateful. 💖

This week the United Nations released the Synthesis Report of The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (or the IPCC) and its Sixth Assessment Report.
A long title that sums up the best science available on climate change produced by the work of hundreds of scientists from around the world. The report breaks down three themes: What’s going on now; future risks and the long-term responses; and, responses in the near term….

The conclusion is yet another warning about what’s coming – and once again a call to take steps now. There are really only three options: Try to mitigate global temperatures by sharply reducing greenhouse gas emissions, start building a world that adapts to a warmer climate, or finally, a future of horrifying doom and gloom. The 8,000-page document compiles the past five years of the best science, identifying climate issues in a range of confidence levels so that policy makers can gauge what’s most important given that the planet is running out of time. “The viability of humanity living within planetary boundaries rests on the actions we take in the next seven years,” the UN report said.

    Mary Trump to Lawrence O’Donnell:

“So I think first of all the emotion of sadness is not in Donald’s arsenal.
What he’s feeling to the extent that he is feeling anything is self-pity.
And that makes sense! He is also feeling grievance. But he feels aggrieved every time every time he walks into the Mar-a-Lago dining room and his patrons don’t pay him sufficient homage, right? So none of this is new
”

    O’Donnell :
“You said something that I find so interesting clinically, from your professional perspective on your uncle and then your personal perspective. And that is that he cannot feel sad
.what is that condition?”

    Trump:
“Well I tried to avoid any diagnostic labels, but this is somebody who has such serious psychological problems. He has such serious psycho-pathologies that the range of emotion that is available to most relatively stable people is not available to him. I think Donald’s emotional makeup consists mostly of anger and the self-pity I spoke about earlier. And deep, deep fear. And a lot of that is in the service of making sure he never feels humiliated.”

      A Call To Activism
“A Utah parent has utilized a new law that permits the removal of “pornographic” books from school libraries and requested the removal of the Bible, which they referred to as “one of the most sex-ridden books around.”

The parent, who has chosen to remain anonymous for privacy reasons, submitted an appeal on December 11th along with an eight-page list of Bible passages that they found objectionable and deemed worthy of review.

The parent argued that the Bible contained topics such as incest, bestiality, genital mutilation, and infanticide, making it pornographic under the new definition set forth in Utah Code Ann. § 76-10-1227 and therefore without serious value for minors.”

Supporters gather to discuss Montana ICWA bill
HELENA, Montana — Roberta Duckhead Kittson Nyomo said she and her brother were among the last Native American children adopted out of Thompson Falls before the Federal Indian Child Welfare Act was passed in 1978. The siblings were sent to live with a non-Native family, who Nyomo remembers lacked empathy.

Nyomo, Blackfeet, said she and her brother were abused and she lost her brother to suicide when he was 15.

Anywhere we go in the world, the first question we ask is, “Is there Internet?” “Will I get a Net connection there?” “Will I get the Net connection in that home?” “Will I get a Net connection in that hotel?” If we don’t get it, we will be like a fish out of water, even losing sleep. Spirituality is, in fact, the Inner Net. If that connection is strong, no external situation will be able to disturb us or stress us out. It will allow us to adjust to situations while at the same time being compassionate. It will give us the capacity to forgive, forget, forbear and give back. We will be able to do this with joy. This is what we call spirituality.

Florida lawmakers, governor push extreme anti-LGBTQ measures
A multi-part anti-trans medical care bill is advancing in Florida’s House, and Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to expand the “Don’t Say Gay” law’s aims to all grades.

“As a Florida House subcommittee advanced the most extreme anti-transgender legislation that Law Dork has covered, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s administration is moving forward with a plan to ban most teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity all the through 12th grade.”

    • March 25, 2023 at 3:18 pm

      First, the legislation: H.B. 1421.

The bill was amended in a subcommittee hearing on Wednesday and then favorably reported out of the Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee. Introduced and amended by Republican Rep. Randy Fine, the bill is now with the full Health & Human Services Committee, of which he is the chair.

What does the bill do? Nearly everything. Seriously. This legislation would take more than a dozen legislative actions to make trans people’s lives more difficult, and specifically, to make their medical care more difficult to obtain.

Going through the bill in order, it would:

Allow child custody orders to be changed “to the extent necessary to protect the child from being subjected to” gender-affirming medical care.

Bar use of public funds — and possibly, as written, the personal funds of anyone who contracts with or works for the state of Florida — for gender-affirming medical care….(details on banning gender affirming healthcare for minors).

    • March 25, 2023 at 3:21 pm

Ban trans people from having their birth certificate sex marker changed.

Suspend a health care practitioner’s license if they provide (or conspire or attempt to provide) gender-affirming medical care to a minor.

Define gender-affirming medical care, including puberty blockers and hormones, as “gender clinical interventions” (which is thus the term use throughout the bill).

Ban gender-affirming medical care for minors going forward.

Order the discontinuation of gender-affirming medical care for those already receiving it by the end of this calendar year.
……..summary = DOCTORS MUST FORCE MINORS TO DE-TRANSITION

    • March 25, 2023 at 3:30 pm

N.B. the next section about adults is being blocked.

    • March 25, 2023 at 3:31 pm

Make providing gender-affirming medical care to minors a third-degree felony.

    • March 25, 2023 at 3:42 pm

Ban health-insurance coverage or health-maintenance coverage for gender-affirming medical care FOR ALL AGES, as written.

    • March 25, 2023 at 3:43 pm

Section 6. Section 627.6411, Florida Statutes, (summary, health insurance cannot cover gender affirming care).

Create a private right of action (civil lawsuit) for “any physical, psychological, emotional, or physiological injury resulting from” gender-affirming medical care that incudes a 30-year statute of limitations for the person who received the care and a 5-year statute of limitations after the person’s death for their estate.

      Chris Geidner:

    • March 25, 2023 at 3:59 pm

      Chris Geidner:
“It should also be noted that similar language to almost all of these provisions
have been present in at least some other legislation elsewhere, albeit not all in one bill. Oklahoma’s H.B. 2177, for example, contains several provisions similar to several of those in the Florida bill — including the insurance-related provision and its applicability to all ages — and that bill has already passed the Oklahoma House.
Further, many of these provisions — at least in part — have even been signed into law elsewhere.”

  48. March 25, 2023 at 4:10 pm

    imo to elucidate:
“Allow child custody orders to be changed “to the extent necessary to protect the child from being subjected to” gender-affirming medical care.”

  49. March 25, 2023 at 4:14 pm

    imo to elucidate:
“Order the discontinuation of gender-affirming medical care for those already receiving it.”

    • March 25, 2023 at 4:28 pm

Ok so this is called ‘de-transitioning’.

In this bill GOP is saying that a young person who has been receiving hormone blockers will now have to de-transition, back to the normal puberty process.

      Fact: Transitioning is life-saving.
The young person has had a taste of authenticity and now it is being taken away.
This results in depression and heightened potential for suicide, death.
