It’s almost like we’re going through a new version of Reconstruction where we’ve made this progress and now we have DeSantis and other people like him, wanting to roll back history to a much more romanticized antebellum version of America. The American Dream for white people. And ignoring Black history. They almost don’t want to hear stories about Black entrepreneurship. They don’t want to know how people made something out of nothing. Black people were able to build a parallel version of the American dream that as integration occurred, and started to introduce Black people more into mainstream society, there was a competition there. They started to see that maybe the Dream wasn’t quite as they imagined it, and they don’t want admit or be reminded of that.”
