I am disgusted by the grotesquely inhumane treatment of #TyreNichols.
I want elected officials, civic leaders, corporations & faith leaders to invest the same [even more] energy in preventing police brutality as they did in preparing for responses to a video of police brutality.
On Saturday, Rev. Sharpton will address Nichols’ death at the weekly NAN Saturday rally at the House of Justice in Harlem. He will then host Nichols’ parents and attorney Ben Crump on PoliticsNation at 5 p.m. on MSNBC. Rev. Sharpton will then deliver the eulogy for Nichols in Memphis on Wednesday morning.
“Once again, we are forced to watch another horrific video of cops using brutal force to kill a Black man. Nearly three years after the murder of George Floyd shook the world, here we are. This video should be all a jury needs to convict each of the five officers who relentlessly beat Tyre Nichols to death. Justice needs to be delivered for Tyre and his family. I don’t think anyone who could stomach getting through this footage would disagree.
Those who go out to protest tonight must respect the family’s wishes to remain non-violent. We are all outraged, but anyone who turns violent only helps the defendants. The more you act up, the more these cops will only use it as an excuse for their despicable actions.
The sad reality is police brutality will be an ever-present threat for Black and Brown Americans unless cops continually see that those who use blunt force will go to jail. They need to understand that a badge isn’t a shield that lets them kill someone during a traffic stop. And the only way to do that is through convictions and legislation. I thank the Justice Department for opening a civil rights investigation and urge its lawyers to be swift and transparent. Our entire nation must come together to condemn this grotesque violation of human rights.”
What words in this universe for Tyre’s loving Mom and Dad, or for his child.
How profound their strength and compassionate wish for the safety of others…at this moment.
My heart goes out to Tyre Nichols’ family and to Americans in Memphis and across the country who are grieving this tremendously painful loss. There are no words to describe the heartbreak and grief of losing a beloved child and young father.⁰⁰Here's my full statement. pic.twitter.com/ghROhSGtao

Rev. Al Sharpton to deliver eulogy at funeral services for Tyre Nichols
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Funeral services for Tyre Nichols are set for Feb. 1, 2023, at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, with Rev. Al Sharpton set to deliver the eulogy, according to Sharpton’s National Action Network (NAN).
Attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Nichols’ family, is set to deliver the call to action.
The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the church at 70 N Bellevue Blvd.
Crump: Family wants world to see how Tyre Nichols was ‘brutalized’ in video
Attorney Ben Crump on why the family of Tyre Nichols wanted the Memphis police video released: “They think it’s important that America, that the world see how [officers] brutalized Tyre, how they killed Tyre so unnecessarily.”
Joy Reid:
“We live in an era where we have drones! I’ve gotten traffic tickets when I got home because a robot in the sky saw that…you can literally send them the ticket in the mail.
So why are we stopping cars because there’s something wrong with their tail light when you can photograph that fact, send them a ticket…why are they pulling people over at all?”
Frank Figluzzi:
“You’re asking…goes to the larger the issue of re-imagining the police and what the community wants and needs.”
“You’re asking a larger question which is what is it really that we need to deploy armed people for…we keep hearing about the Scorpion unit. So don’t let anybody tell you these people were out looking for traffic violations. These crime suppression units, these jumpout squads as some cities call them, they’re about suppression people in an aggressive way and that’s what needs to be looked at here. These people were not looking for a traffic violation.”

Memphis police officers unleashed at least 71 commands at Tyre Nichols. Many were contradictory or impossible. When he couldn’t comply — and even when he managed to — officers responded with escalating force.
Plus looks like the officers said things for the voice recording that didn’t match their actions – in preparation for their future defense – as the murder of Mr. Nichols was taking place. How often has THAT happened?
Joy Reid on Tyre Nichols death: It’s not the race of the officer–it’s the design of the system
Tyre Nichols’ death after a deadly police beating is renewing the debate on policing in America. Police brutality dating back to the very origins of America is discussed by Joy Reid and her panel of experts.
Planters invented police..and the violence was the point”. Ms. Reid gives historical context to policing profession “in a policing culture” (Marq Claxton). Control…police put Tyre into the position that he couldn’t comply, a lynching. Black officers engaged in subjugation of Tyre, discussion.

Clyburn: GOP’s “Weaponization Of Government” Committee Will Be A Waste Of Time And Money Like Benghazi
CHRIS HAYES: Congressman, having been through this a number of times now, having gone for the majority of the minority, having watched Republicans launch a series of investigations when they get the gavel, what is your expectation and posture towards these various investigations that they are — they’re gearing up to do?
REP. JIM CLYBURN: Well, I think there are very, very unnecessary. They are really a waste of time. I think they proved that with Benghazi. We know what the result of that was. Two and a half years, I don’t know how much money was spent, and it was all for naught. It may have been of some detriment to Hillary Clinton, but that’s not what we run government for. The government is here to really address the things that are really responsible and things that really get the country moving, get people lives in order, not to score political points.
So, if we are going to run this government to score political appoints, I think that the result is going to be the same. We saw that time and time again when they were in power before and I think that will be the end result this time as well. But then a lot of money will have been spent and wasted and a lot of time when it could be devoted to improving people’s lives.

Rachel Maddow showed how Trump committed a crime then had everyone bend over backward to protect him from prosecution, and the damage he has done to the DOJ and the rule of law.
Maddow said:
“So this is a crime that was committed in 2016. The last time it was in court was in 2018. The last time someone went to jail for this crime was in 2019. Federal prosecutors bobbled it and they simultaneously blocked state prosecutors from pursuing it themselves for a long time. There was also a weird interlude where one Manhattan D.A., one New York state prosecutor started an investigation into this matter, and then a new prosecutor came into office and stopped that investigation and then the new prosecutor restarted it a few months later after some of the lawyers who had been working on Trump-related investigations quit in protest and did so loudly.
This has been a weird saga. This has been an on-again, off-again criminal case. At its core it is a simple crime. It is a very understandable crime. One in which the evidence is really clear. And for years now, I mean we’re going on seven years since the crime, five years since people started going to prison for it, for years people have been doing backflips to make sure there are no consequences for the guy who committed the crime and was the only one to benefit from it. The purpose was to help Donald Trump’s campaign for president.
He did become the president. Which apparently does give you carte Blanche to stay out of handcuffs for four years while occupying the oval office. But not after. It doesn’t last once you’re out, once you are out of the oval office you’re supposed to go back to being the kind of person who isn’t allowed to get caught committing crimes without having to pay. It has taken alt of these years, I am happy to say Stormy Daniels is doing fine. She’s doing better than fine. We’re about to find out if we can say the same about the rule of law and the justice system which they royally screwed up.”
Jason Easley: “The case itself is not complicated. It is fairly open and shut. Donald Trump broke the law by paying Stormy Daniels hush money during the 2016 presidential campaign. We know that Donald Trump is the man behind the crime. Donald Trump benefitted from the crime, but because he made it to the White House, Trump was able to use the power of the presidency to cover up his crime and block investigations.”

I’ve been warming up more and more to watching Alex Wagner on MSNBC in the evening. Although I was extremely glad she took over most of the week for Rachel, I hadn’t heard much about her before. She’s had a long career and now I’m wondering where was I? Ha. She’s got what it takes, for sure.
Checked out her page on Wiki and found another tidbit y’all may have known but I didn’t:
“On August 30, 2014, Wagner married former White House nutrition policy advisor and assistant chef Sam Kass in a ceremony held at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, a restaurant in Pocantico Hills, New York … The wedding was attended by then U.S. President Barack Obama and his family, as Kass had been the Obama family personal chef since Chicago … Wagner and Kass’s first child, Cyrus, was born in 2017.[28] On April 16, 2019, she gave birth to their second child, Rafael.”
Hi J! I knew she’d married my crush Sam. I’ve still not forgiven her for taking him away from me.😆
I remember her on MSNBC back when PBO was still in office. In fact, I saw her in Charlotte when she was there covering the 2012 Dem convention. Anyway, I always thought she was a good journalist and I’m glad to see she’s back on air. She doesn’t have the same gravitas as Rachel IMO, a little too giddy at inappropriate times for me, but hopefully she’ll grow into it better over time.
When she came back on MSNBC, I instantly remembered she was married to Sam Kass. How I remembered that I have no idea. LOL Definitely, she is NOT Rachel, but then, no one is. We watch her every night.
Truly disgraceful! Lawsuits should be flying right now!
A disgrace. Moms and Dads should be marching on Tallahassee in protest against this intrusion into the privacy and dignity of girls. https://t.co/Xa1bSzskhf

Donald Trump benefitted from the crime, but because he made it to the White House, Trump was able to use the power of the presidency to cover up his crime and block investigations.”
fearless!!! thx ggail44.
Wow, amazing, the grace and strength. I, like my mother used to, loved watching ice skaters, even hockey players skill. Sorry she missed seeing Breonna Taylor. Don’t care what the judges say, she is awesome.

So frightening!
I’m sure we all remember Sam Kass! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Kass
She doesn’t have the same gravitas as Rachel IMO, a little too giddy at inappropriate times for me, but hopefully she’ll grow into it better over time.
hi jo’b, Dudette, jer44, sun is out here!
When she came back on MSNBC, I instantly remembered she was married to Sam Kass. How I remembered that I have no idea. LOL Definitely, she is NOT Rachel, but then, no one is. We watch her every night.
Your “my crush Sam” made me smile, big time!
Truly disgraceful! Lawsuits should be flying right now!

want to thank hospital personnel everywhere in the world. Received 3 am call from closest family member yesterday. Weeks after a series of accidental blows to the head, he suddenly went missing. Is barely coherent, and is post-surgery. Don’t know the full story yet. But after this chronic time of not knowing…there he is…again thank you.
Hope your closest family member will be okay soon. 🙏🏻
yes it’s my brother! thanks for your kindness sjterrid.
You’re very welcome!
