Pebble Mine takes ‘one-two punch’ as EPA weighs permit
Acquisition of easements cuts off areas needed for ore-transport road

    by Richard Arlin Walker

The $20 million purchase by two nonprofit organizations of conservation easements on an Alaska Native corporation’s lands delivers what one nonprofit leader calls “a good one-two punch” to the proposed Pebble Mine in Alaska.

But proponents of the mine continue to fight to win permits to extract precious metals from a site near Lake Iliamna — the largest lake in Alaska, a habitat for salmon that migrate to Bristol Bay, and home to one of the planet’s five populations of freshwater seals.

      imho,
but the company named Pebble Mine (it’s actually a copper mine) pushes this relentlessly knowing the dire consequences. Bristol salmon is the most common kind sold across the U.S. and most likely what you eat.
This is probably Lake Illiamna…have been told when you fly over it’s very beautifu, mountains and tundra. Sockeye spawn in that lake – they’re not stream spawners. Walrus, whales, bears feed on them too, we must not break the food chain.
A drop of copper in the water mucks up the signal for salmon to spawn.

    Back Atcha!

Love is but a song we sing
    Fear’s the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
    Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why

    Come on, people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Some may come and some may go
    He will surely pass
When the one that left us here
    Returns for us at last
We are but a moment’s sunlight
    Fading in the grass

    Come on, people now
    Smile on your brother
    Everybody get together
    Try to love one another right now . . . . .

Rachel Maddow Uncovers George Santos’s Biggest Lie Yet That He Was The Target Of An Assassination Attempt

    Maddow said:

“I want you to see it. In this interview, then congressman-elect George Santos is speaking with the host in Portuguese, so we have subtitles it. He starts off talking about an alleged act of vandalism, which he says was targeted at him simply because he’s a Republican. But then in the midst of that, he says, oh, also someone tried to murder him.

We have already suffered an attempt on my life, an assassination attempt. There was an assassination attempt, really? Then congressman-elect George Santos did not elaborate on his claim in the interview.

    • January 25, 2023 at 11:04 am

imo if more are found with many different formers it wouldn’t be surprising. Seems the huge amount of classified data and who is trained to handle it, may be an issue for the Biden Admin to review now.

But Trump’s actions were corrupt intent lawless etc, and not equivalent.

‘She’s for sale’: How Ruben Gallego plans to defeat Kyrsten Sinema in potential three-way race

Arizonans who voted for Democrat Kyrsten Sinema in 2018 are plenty fed up with the now Independent Senator Sinema, especially the progressive and Latino activists who worked tirelessly to get her elected. This has made Sinema ripe for a Democratic challenger. Now she’s got a formidable one: Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego. Gallego joins Joy Reid on how he plans to defeat Sinema in a potential three-way race.
