New laws could block that progress.
“These states are reducing all the great practices of 2020 that made voting more accessible,” Christine Chen, executive director of the nonpartisan organization Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote, said.

Remarks by President Biden on Protecting American Consumers from Junk Fees

First, imagine this: Your child outgrows his bicycle, and you decide to sell it online, and someone pays you a check. Pays you 30 bucks for the bicycle or something. Days later, that check that you got paid with, that you deposited into your bank, it bounces. You didn’t know it was bad, but you get charged 15 bucks. You get charged 15 bucks. It’s wrong. It’s ridiculous. It’s unfair. And my administration is making clear today it’s illegal as well.

Today’s actions are going to save consumers more than $1 billion each year. And that’s a lot of money back in people’s pockets.

Shrew-like creature was placental mammals’ last common ancestor
Group’s earliest primogenitor was probably a diminutive creature with a long snout, researchers suggest

“The forerunners of mammals are believed to have split from what eventually became reptiles around 320m years ago, but it was not until some time between 70 and 80m years ago that placental mammals arose.

Their diversity eventually mushroomed, with the creatures evolving from primarily small insectivores to a huge array of creatures on land, sea and wing.”

Is Herschel Walker the worst candidate the Republicans have ever run?

“It’s not just that the modern Republican party has accepted as a norm that there should be absolutely zero moral or ethical expectations from the people they run for office. It’s that they seem to relish breaking the rules they want to set for others. It’s not hypocrisy so much as the celebration of conservative male impunity.”

    The Red State Murder Problem

“We collected 2019 and 2020 murder data from all 50 states. (Comprehensive 2021 data is not yet available.) We pulled the data from yearly crime reports released by state governments, specifically the Departments of Justice and Safety. For states that didn’t issue state crime reports, we pulled data from reputable local news sources. To allow for comparison, we calculated the state’s per capita murder rate, the number of murders per 100,000 residents, and categorized states by their presidential vote in the 2020 election, resulting in an even 25-25 split.

We found that murder rates are, on average, 40% higher in the 25 states Donald Trump won in the last presidential election compared to those that voted for Joe Biden.”

Federal Court Issues Order Barring Defendants From Confronting, Photographing, Doxing Voters, and Carrying Guns and Wearing Body Armor Near Drop Boxes

Phoenix, Arizona—Today, following a hearing in a suit brought by the League of Women Voters of Arizona (LWVAZ), a federal court issued an order to block unlawful voter intimidation at ballot drop boxes.

The order will block Defendants Melody Jennings and Clean Elections USA and affiliated individuals from (1) carrying guns or wearing body armor near a ballot drop box; (2) confronting or following voters when they are casting ballots or near a drop box; (3) photographing voters who are within 75 feet of a drop box; and (4) releasing voters’ personal information in connection with a claim that they committed voter fraud. The order will also bar defendants from making false statements about the legality of depositing multiple ballots in a drop box, and require defendants to post information on their website and social media that it is legal in Arizona to deposit multiple ballots in a drop box under some circumstances.

“Today’s U.S. District Court decision is a victory for the voters of Arizona who have the right to cast their ballots free from intimidation, threats, or coercion,” said Pinny Sheoran, President of the League of Women Voters of Arizona. “The League of Women Voters of Arizona is proud to have challenged activities that are presently interfering with voters’ right to cast a ballot safely and without fear, and we encourage voters to continue using drop boxes to vote.”

At the hearing, the LWVAZ—represented by Protect Democracy and Osborn Maledon, P.A.—presented evidence about the impact of intimidation on voters who experienced it directly. This included the testimony of voters who felt they could not use drop boxes because of the likelihood of confronting armed surveillance, being accused of breaking the law, or being doxxed simply for exercising their right to vote.

“The brave voters who came forward today offered powerful testimony about the harm that voter intimidation wreaks on our democracy,” said Orion Danjuma, Counsel at Protect Democracy. “The court’s order today recognizes the importance of the federal laws that ensure voters’ ability to participate in democracy without fear, and strikes an appropriate balance between protecting voters from intimidation and not infringing First Amendment rights.”

    The President:

The great irony about the 2020 election is it’s the most attacked election in our history. And yet — and yet, there is no election in our history that we can be more certain of its results.

Every legal challenge that could have been brought was brought. Every recount that could have been undertaken was undertaken. Every recount confirmed the results.

Wherever fact or evidence have been demanded, the Big Lie has been proven to be just that, a big lie, every single time.

“Republicans will never lose another election in Wisconsin after I’m elected governor.”

    • November 3, 2022 at 1:39 pm

“Article IV, Section 4 of the United States Constitution provides that “the United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,” but Wisconsin is on the precipice of becoming something other than a republican form of government.

Perhaps it’s already there. In 2018, Ari Berman reports, Republicans lost all five statewide races, won 47% of the votes cast for the state assembly, and kept 64% of the assembly seats. Not content with that, though, it seems they’re angling to finish the job of ensuring the Republican Party wields power regardless of how voters vote.

Just look at what Tim Michels, the Republican candidate for governor, had to say on Tuesday, one week out from Election Day:
“Republicans will never lose another election in Wisconsin after I’m elected governor.”
