Hello all. Thanks, NW!! 🙂 We voted Tuesday. I just finished phone banking for the woman who is running to be our state rep in Nashville. I’ve done a lot more phone banking this cycle than I have ever done. In part because I am recovering from foot surgery so don’t get out much and have plenty of time here at home. The calls I made today was to ‘Strong Dems’ who haven’t voted yet. I was reminding (and begging) them to VOTE, preferably early vote.

    The campaign continues.

“President Biden, Vice President Harris and former president Barack Obama all jumped on the trail Friday night, stumping for Democratic Senate and gubernatorial hopefuls in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Here’s what we’ll be watching over the weekend:

Biden will vote early in Delaware. He will be joined by his granddaughter Natalie, a first-time voter.

Obama will campaign in Michigan and Wisconsin. He will attend a get-out-the-vote rally in Michigan with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who’s fighting off a challenge from Republican Tudor Dixon.

Later in the day, the former president will travel to Wisconsin, where he will campaign with Senate hopeful Mandela Barnes. Barnes, the state’s lieutenant governor, is hoping to unseat Republican Sen. Ron Johnson.

The first lady will campaign in New Hampshire. Jill Biden will deliver remarks at a campaign event for Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan, who is running against Republican Don Bolduc.

Later, the two will campaign alongside Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.), who is defending his seat against a former Trump aide.”

Remarks by Vice President Harris in Press Gaggle

“And the reality of it is that John Fetterman is a fighter. We know that about him. He has the character, he has the desire to represent the people and to do it in a way that — he understands what struggle means. He understands what it means to overcome and to support people who are trying to get through the day, get through the week, and get through the month.

And that’s the kind of fighter he is. He is a fighter for working people. And we see that about him. We know that about his character. So that’s why I’m here.”

” I did talk with Speaker Pelosi this morning. And, I mean, this was an act of extreme violence. And I think we’re looking at a — at a time in our country where there is so much discourse that is fueled by hate and division. And anyone who professes to be a leader, I think, has to really understand the meaning and the — and the impact of their words and their posture on these things.”

Remarks by President Biden at a Pennsylvania Democratic Party Reception

“When I took office, this economy was in ruins.
My predecessor was the first President since Herbert Hoover to lose jobs during his four-year presidency — the first President. Unemployment, when we came to office, was 6.4 percent. Hundreds of thousands of small businesses closed. Remember. Remember.

And the irony is that, during the pandemic, a record number of Americans became billionaires. No, not a joke. There’s about seven hu- — 770-some or -50-some billionaires — a whole bunch came along during that pandemic — while 9 million Americans lost their job at the same time, out of work from the pandemic and Republican politics.

Today, we’re in a much better place. We got more to do. But 10 million jobs created since I took office. (Applause.) A record. More jobs created at this point than any presidency in American history.

Unemployment is not 6.5, but 3.5 percent — the lowest it’s been in 50 years. (Applause.)

And 5.4 million Americans applied to start new businesses last year — the highest level ever in American history. (Applause.)

Folks, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, which I predicted was going to happen and laid out when it was going to happen, it sent gas prices soaring around the world. And because of the elections we’ve taken — since the elections, we’ve been — we’ve taken gas prices down from where they were, here at home.”

    Hello…
Fact: Crime has fallen…since the Trump presidency.
And is a NOT a top issue as we’re being told.
    …………………………….

“The advantage Dems opened this summer narrowed because voters now say crime and inflation are top issues. Did crime and inflation get worse since August? Or are voters responding to media, which in turn allowed itself to be manipulated by propaganda…

Let’s stipulate that survey data say people’s top concerns are crime and inflation, and that is why Democrats have slipped in the polls over the past 10 weeks. I can think of two possible explanations for a shift like that. One is that crime and inflation became perceptibly worse since August (which would justify a sustained shift in media focus). The other is that mass media started fixating on those topics independent of any significant change in material reality (but perhaps because Republicans uncorked a propaganda).

    Well, folks!”

    Love Brian Beutler….

“There is, alas, no FRED for crime, but crime has generally speaking been falling after climbing through the Trump presidency and spiking during the acute phase of the pandemic. The media’s fixation on crime, on the other hand, tracks something else entirely.

I think journalists should do better. I think they should be able to recognize that crime is falling; that their outlets are awash in crime coverage anyhow because they’ve been manipulated; that Republicans willed a crime panic into existence, the same way they willed an Ebola panic into existence in 2014, and caravan panics into existence in more recent elections. I think political journalists should see it as central to their jobs to understand the real challenges facing the country and give the public the information they need to address those challenges, not just cover what the loudest politicians happen to be saying, only to find that—surprise!—polls mirror those things perfectly.

But since they by and large only do the latter, Democrats should feel a deep sense of responsibility to game the standard and get louder. ”

Rachel Maddow Rips Donald Trump Jr. And The GOP For Celebrating Pelosi Attack

    Maddow said:

“You know, I dismiss him as a nutball, and I speak about those things with admitted derision because, in my opinion, honestly, none of us should feel obliged to play in the sewer of that man’s mind. Once you hit someone in the head with a hammer, all of humanity is officially and forever excused from needing to learn about your thoughts and feelings.

But if you’re a person who has all your faculties, and you know that something like this has happened, if you minimize it, mock it, celebrate it, the attempted murder of the Speaker of the House’s husband, what is now formally charged as the attempted kidnapping of the Speaker of the House, well, if that’s how you react to knowing this has happened, well then, you’re telling us what you want instead of politics. You’re telling everybody what you want to be able to do, what you want your side to be able to do to your political opponents. What you enjoy seeing your political opponents subjected to.

And that is in fact the other option if we’re not going to have elections anymore. It’s either violence and force, or it’s voting. And if it is not voting, then it is going to be violence and force.”

(‘let them die’)…guessing they must feel immortal or what.

    • November 1, 2022 at 12:51 pm

      Jason Easley:

“The Republicans who are celebrating the attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband are telegraphing that the 1/6 attack wasn’t a one-off.

Political violence is the Republican strategy to gain and remain in power.

If an election is lost, destroy its legitimacy, then attempt to keep or gain power through violence.

By glorifying the Pelosi attack, Republicans are encouraging others to do the same.”

    Mandela Barnes:

“Prior to serving as Lt. Governor, Mandela was elected to the State Assembly where he emerged as a champion on issues of the environment, economy, education, racial justice, and health care. He became the chair of the legislature’s Black and Latino Caucus in his first term, became a national leader on gun violence prevention, and was recognized as one of the top pro-growth progressive leaders in the country. He also worked as a community organizer in Milwaukee and served as Deputy Director of Strategic Engagement for the State Innovation Exchange, sharing progressive best practices with state legislatures across the country.

Mandela serves on the Governor’s Health Equity Council, Wisconsin Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, Wisconsin Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force, the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy and Capability, and the statewide 2020 Census Complete Count Committee.”
