There Is Absolutely Nothing to Support the ‘Independent State Legislature’ Theory
Such a doctrine would be antithetical to the Framers’ intent, and to the text, fundamental design, and architecture of the Constitution.

    By J. Michael Luttig

“The Supreme Court will decide before next summer the most important case for American democracy in the almost two and a half centuries since America’s founding.

In Moore v. Harper, the Court will finally resolve whether there is a doctrine of constitutional interpretation known as the “independent state legislature.” If the Court concludes that there is such a doctrine, it would confer on state legislatures plenary, exclusive, and judicially unreviewable power both to redraw congressional districts for federal elections and to appoint state electors who quadrennially cast the votes for president and vice president on behalf of the voters of the states. It would mean that the partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts by state legislatures would not be reviewable by the state courts—including the states’ highest court—under their state constitutions.”

“…regime survival has depended upon two premises: what happens on television is more important than what happens in reality; and what happens abroad is more important than what happens at home. It seems to me that these premises no longer hold.”

“Mobilization itself starts to look like a spear pointed the wrong way: is there a point in sending thousands of unprepared and underequipped men into what they increasingly know is doom? Putin’s presupposition, of course, is that mobilized soldiers will either die or win; but if they flee instead, they become a dangerous group, perhaps ready for another leader.”

Maddow: Defending democracy calls for a whole-of-society response

“Rachel Maddow explains that one of the themes of her new podcast series, Rachel Maddow Presents: Ultra, is that Americans cannot rely solely on law enforcement to keep anti-democratic forces at bay. Preserving democracy requires action from all Americans.”

Rachel Maddow Says What The Rest Of Mainstream Media Won’t About Rising Fascism

Rachel Maddow cut through the political noise Monday evening to warn that in order to effectively combat fascism, there is a necessity for a whole society response. And this is something we have done before.

    Maddow said:
“Looking at what happened last time that we were up against something like this, is that the criminal law can’t do everything. I mean, we can’t ever count on it all being against it in the courtroom. When it is extremist ultra-right groups willing to use violence against everyone else to get their way, those are crimes and there is a role for the courts and the prison system, right? But there is also a really important role for everything else.

For a whole of society response. I mean, the criminal justice system isn’t bulletproof but it also doesn’t address the nature of those crimes in their totality. So in order to effectively combat fascism, in order to effectively combat rising authoritarianism – particularly when it comes to trying to undo elections and trying to have power be both achieved and maintained in this country by some means other than democracy.”

“When it comes to threatening force as a way of seizing power, there is not only room; there is a necessity for a whole society response. For everybody to do something. For activism. For journalism, for political organizing to keep them away from real power.

I see a way in which you learn, like we’ve been through something like there before and it can be enervating, are we ever going to get away from this. On the other hand, knowing that we’ve faced it before and effectively faced it before and Americans had great ideas on how to outflank and defeat those forces, that to me is energizing.”

“Sitting members of Congress aiding and abetting a plot to overthrow the government. Insurrectionists criminally charged with plotting to end American democracy for good. Justice Department prosecutors under crushing political pressure. Rachel Maddow Presents: Ultra is the all-but-forgotten true story of good, old-fashioned American extremism getting supercharged by proximity to power. When extremist elected officials get caught plotting against America with the violent ultra right, this is the story of the lengths they will go to… to cover their tracks.”

Lots of problems with bears, mainly because the humans and how they deal with the bears in the Park. Or, more accurately, how the tourists do not know how to deal with them. Rangers are frequently forced to put a bear down because people feed them and that causes the bear to be very aggressive. It is sad and very frustrating. What is wrong with people?!
