      August 12, 2022, statement

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
assumed exclusive legal and physical custody of Obama Presidential records when President Barack Obama left office in 2017, in accordance with the Presidential Records Act (PRA). NARA moved approximately 30 million pages of unclassified records to a NARA facility in the Chicago area where they are maintained exclusively by NARA. Additionally, NARA maintains the classified Obama Presidential records in a NARA facility in the Washington, DC, area.

As required by the PRA, former President Obama has no control over where and how NARA stores the Presidential records of his Administration.

President Biden Delivers Remarks and Signs Into Law H.R. 5376,
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022

    • August 16, 2022 at 5:28 pm

      President Joe Biden:

“Let me say from the start, with this law the American people won and special interests lost.
The American people won and the special interests lost…we are in a season of substance. This Administration began amid a dark time in America. As Jim said, a once-in-a-century pandemic, devastating joblessness, clear and present threats to democracy and the rule of law, doubts about America’s future itself. And yet we’ve not wavered, we’ve not flinched and we’ve not given in. Instead we are delivering results for the American people. We didn’t tear down, we built up. We didn’t look back, looked forward. And today, today offers further proof that the soul of America is vibrant, the future of America is bright, and the promise of America is real and just beginning.”

Gravity Assist Finale: Thanks for All the Gravity Assists

“On the Gravity Assist podcast we have interviewed dozens of scientists, engineers, and others dedicated to the mission of NASA space exploration. After five years, the show is coming to a close. Here are some final thoughts and episode highlights from the podcast team.”

    • August 17, 2022 at 11:29 am

“In the space exploration world, we talk about a “gravity assist” as a maneuver past a planet that increases a spacecraft’s speed. The spacecraft steals a tiny bit of energy from the planet, which is much more massive and has a lot more gravity than the spacecraft. Through the magic of physics, the spacecraft speeds up and the planet slows down by an imperceptible amount. In order to get to Pluto, for example, the New Horizons spacecraft flew by Jupiter and got a gravity assist to slingshot outward toward the distant dwarf planet.

Dr. Jim Green, who has held roles at NASA that included Director of Planetary Science and agency Chief Scientist, has taught us that a “gravity assist” is a way to talk about the person, place, thing, or event that propels people in their career paths. After all, no one is born as an astrophysicist or a rocket engineer. Everyone gets boosts of support or inspiration along the way, whether it be from parents, mentors, books, movies, museums, or even the sight of rockets launching in the distance.

      Each journey is different.
Some people working with NASA missions or projects have overcome tremendous obstacles and followed their passion to get involved in the space program. Other scientists and engineers have known since childhood that they wanted to study space, and pursued a standard educational path in physics or astronomy. Some did not always get good grades in school, and persevered despite the voices that recommended giving up.”

“We hope that this podcast has made you think about the gravity assists in your own life, or even how to be a gravity assist to another person.”

      –Liz Landau,
      Gravity Assist lead producer

    SPEAKER PELOSI:
“POTUS just signed into law Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act.

This historic legislation will lower kitchen table costs, create good-paying jobs, deliver the most significant action on climate in history while reducing the deficit.

Here’s what it means for you:”

    • August 18, 2022 at 10:38 am

“If you’re a senior: the #InflationReductionAct slashes your prescription drug costs.

By empowering Medicare to negotiate drug prices, preventing excessive price hikes faster than inflation and capping out-of-pocket costs to $2,000 per year, you’ll keep more money in your pocket.”

“If you’re one of the 13 million working Americans with an affordable plan under the ACA: The InflationReductionAct will keep saving you an average of $800/year.
This new law locks in lower health care premiums, so you’ll be able to keep your coverage and save on health costs.”

“The InflationReductionAct delivers the biggest, boldest climate action in history.
This law will save families’ up to $1000/year on energy bills and bolster America’s energy independence — all while slashing carbon pollution by roughly 40 percent by 2030.”

“Meanwhile, the #InflationReductionAct helps fight inflation for families in the long-term.
Making an historic investment in paying down the deficit by $300 billion this decade and $2 trillion over two decades will help cool inflation for years to come.”

Make no mistake: the #InflationReductionAct is fully paid for by ensuring the wealthiest few and biggest corporations pay their fair share.
And there are no new taxes on families making $400,000 or less or on small businesses.”

“This package is a powerful force to fight inflation.
According to leading economists, it “will fight inflation and lower costs for American families while setting the stage for strong, stable, and broadly-shared long-term economic growth.”

Remarks by President Biden At Signing of H.R. 5376, The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022

    AUGUST 16, 2022

    State Dining Room

“The Inflation Reduction Act invests $369 billion to take the most aggressive action ever — ever, ever, ever — in confronting the climate crisis and strengthening our economic — our energy security.

It’s going to offer working families thousands of dollars in savings by providing them rebates to buy new and efficient appliances, weatherize their homes, get tax credit for purchasing heat pumps and rooftop solar, electric stoves, ovens, dryers.

It gives consumers a tax credit to buy electric vehicles or fuel cell vehicles, new or used. And it gives them a credit — a tax credit of up to $7,500 if those vehicles were made in America.

American auto companies, along with American labor, are committing their treasure and their talent — billions of dollars in investment — to make electric vehicles and battery and electric charging stations all across America, made in America. All of it made in America.

This new law also provides tax credits that’s going to create tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and clean energy manufacturing jobs, solar factories in the Midwest and the South, wind farms across the plains and off our shores, clean hydrogen projects and more — all across America, every part of America.

This bill is the biggest step forward on climate ever — ever — and it’s going to allow — it’s going to allow us to boldly take additional steps toward meeting all of my climate goals — the ones we set out when we ran.

It includes ensuring that we create clean energy opportunities in frontline and fence-line communities that have been smothered — smothered by the legacy of pollution, and fight environmental injustice that’s been going on for so long.”

I love seeing this and appreciate this administration’s hard work around everything Covid. Sadly, as I read through it, our school system in this red area is doing NONE of this. As far as this system is concerned, Covid has gone away. Of course, we have thousands who say it didn’t really exist in the first place or it was just like the flu or some other stupid nonsense. Then, there’s the facts. Couple of our Moms started a Facebook page last year — Knoxville Parents Against Covid. School began Aug. 8. By Friday and continuing this week, there’s posts every day with both kiddos and parents having Covid. There is NO Covid policy. The answer is whatever the CDC policy is or do what your dr says. It is a mess……once again. So tired of the stupidity.

Now, on a more positive note. Here are some stats from our local election from Aug. 4.
–Every single Dem OUTPERFORMED Biden’s 2020 vote share.
–We pushed the needle county-wide an unprecendented 12 points, our best showing in nearly 20 years.
–We won two down ballot races, electing 2 Democrats to School Board.
–Showed that Democrats are within 5 points of FLIPPING Knox County
–FLIPPED 7 precincts blue that Trump won in 2020. ****(One of those was our Precinct. Trump won it 55-45. Our school board candidate won it 54-46. And, HER opponent had $80,000 while Kat had $30,000)*******
–This is the THIRD cycle in a row we have flipped a seat in Knox County.

Yes, it is still a red area, but as these numbers show, we are working hard and pushing the needle every election cycle.

Posts distort Obama speech on disinformation

“AP’S ASSESSMENT: Missing context. The 40-second clip comes from an hourlong speech Obama made in April at Stanford University, in which he discussed the threat of online disinformation. The full speech shows that Obama was explaining the process other people have used to sow distrust, not endorsing such actions.”

“The clip being shared on Twitter, TikTok and other platforms has been cropped, blurred and filtered to black and white.”

“But key context has been omitted.
The full video makes clear Obama was explaining how “authoritarian regimes,” “strongmen,”
and others have launched disinformation campaigns in the past, giving the examples of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist under Donald Trump.”

Republicans across the board – including De Santis the Pretender – are predating on our children’s fleeting precious time, hurting them and their parents badly with a culture prioritizing guns, mysogyny, lies, brain twisting media, fear, and abuse. Lately parent/child interactions in stores still prey on my mind. Everyone wants to be happy and feel protected, the point is only Democrats who are working to lift us up with compassion.
