    President Biden:

“Make no mistake: Today’s overruling of Roe v. Wade is the culmination of a deliberate effort over decades
to upset the balance of our law. t’s a realization of an extreme ideology and a tragic error by the Supreme Court.

“While today’s Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade puts at risk the health and lives of women across America, most states in this country still recognize a woman’s right to choose. Here’s what you should know.”

“if you live in a state that restricts abortion, today’s decision does NOT prevent you from traveling to a state that allows it.”

“If a state or local official tries to interfere with you exercising this basic right, I’ll do everything in my power to
    fight that un-American attack.”

“My Administration will protect a woman’s access to medications approved by the Food and Drug Administration, like contraception and mifepristone, a FDA-approved drug that safely ends an early pregnancy
of up to ten weeks and is commonly used to treat miscarriages.”

“To those seeking abortions around the country: Know that you are welcome here, and that we will make every effort to ensure our reproductive services are available and readily accessible to you.”

This is about the raw exertion of power by five right-wing judges who have absolute, near veto-proof authority over the rest of the country. Today, millions of Americans had their right to bodily autonomy stripped

Sen. Elizabeth Warren on the overturning of the constitutional right to an abortion:
“Supreme Court doesn’t get the last word. In a democracy, we get the last word. It’s time to get in this fight and it’s time to make real change on behalf of everyone in this country.”

  24. June 25, 2022 at 10:28 am

“As the keepers and stewards of this land,
and as citizens and descendants of our tribal nations,
we state very clearly, these systems were never built to protect our peoples.
From forced sterilization of our women and relatives capable of becoming pregnant to the implementation of the Hyde Amendment, this is yet another attack on the sovereignty of Indigenous people. What we are witnessing now and what we know will continue to happen to all women and birthing peoples in this country, is that striking down Roe is dangerous and will cost countless lives. There is no scenario where women and birthing people will not be put at further risk. It creates a stark choice about how to care for women during this time.

Our inherent sovereignty as Indigenous women and people
determines that we must decide our own fate,
and not allow the state to define these outcomes on our behalf. Upholding Roe v. Wade is the very least this country could have done, after centuries of the systemic oppression of anyone not white, male and Christian,”
said Ms. Foundation for Women’s Indigenous Women’s Advisory Committee in a statement.

Am guessing that No-justice Thomas will double down while we’re sorting it through…Bannon’s dream to keep piling on the outrage, wipe out our resistance and keep us disoriented.

Responding to the cover up in Uvalde, getting a handle on all the evidence around Trump trying to use the DOJ, next day we’re hit with SCOTUS. No mistake about the timing…from the right wing extreme offensive.

An excerpt from a book I borrowed from my daughter’s bookshelf:

Women Who Run With The Wolves
    by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, PhD
NYT bestseller list for 2 years ~ 1992

“Why this intruder which, in women’s dreams, most often takes the shape of an intrusive male, seeks to attack the instinctual psyche and its wildish knowing powers in particular, no one can say for certain. We say it is the nature of the thing. Yet we find this destructive process exacerbated when the culture surrounding a woman touts, nourishes and protects destructive attitudes toward the deep instinctual and soulful nature. Thusly, these destructive cultural values—-to which the predator avidly agrees—-grow stronger within the collective psyche of all its members. When a society exhorts its people to be distrustful of and to shun the deep instinctual life, then an anti-predatory element in each psyche is strengthened and accelerated.”

We women who have chosen all our lives to run with the wolves, no more being ‘ladies’ ~ it is time to put on our marching boots, and get out into the streets ~ yet again ~ for ourselves, for our daughters, our granddaughters and great-granddaughters..

Because if we don’t do it, who will?

    Big hugs all around

This book needs to become a best-seller again, for all those who may have missed it 30 years ago.

    What can you do?

    1. Mutual aid – donate to orgs that offer support for women seeking abortion esp those who need to travel to another state.
    2. Make sure the ppl especially young ppl around you know that you are available to help confidentially if they need abortion care.
    3. Attend peaceful protests happening across the country. Mobilizing empowers us & reminds us & them of our potential power.
    4. Flood the offices of your state reps NOW (strategic visits, phone calls, texts, tweets) and tell them to oppose any state restrictions on abortion.
    5. Organize at the local level with groups focused on strengthening the voice of progressive women and girls to advocate.
    6. Make sure your D.A. knows that how you will vote in their next election if they participate in prosecuting women who seek abortion care or those who assist.
. If your neighboring state prohibits abortion, form groups who can help women from those states access travel & care in your state.
    8. Register & vote in every election this year (primary, special, general) & for every office (sheriff, D.A., school board, House & Senate).
    9. Express your alarm abt the Supreme Court’s actions w/your representatives in Congress. They need to hear your concern and your expectations.
    10. Decide today that you will never give up fighting for the country you want for yourself, your children, your community. Decide it. Then no matter what happens, you won’t be swayed or paralyzed.

SCOTUS Unleashes Reign of Terror on Americans

“Reading cases in which Justice Clarence Thomas struck down a New York conceal carry gun law and Justice Samuel Alito reversed Roe v. Wade and eliminated a 50 year-old constitutional right,
I find myself on one hand compelled to parse through the irrationalities, specious reasoning, abuses of history,
and frankly bad faith arguments. It’s hard to believe Alito and Thomas are considered brilliant human minds and that they are in a position to make important decisions about the lives of Americans.

We have to recognize that the Supreme Court is now currently operating
    not just as an enabler
    of domestic terrorism in America
but rather as a chief terrorist organization
and a chief purveyor of anti-intellectualism in American culture.
It is more interested in taking rights from Americans,
    cultivating fear, controlling the population,
and killing independent thought and reasoning
in an effort to define American culture and identity
according to white male supremacist values dominant and operative
    in a earlier America.

Let’s start with this last one.
How is the Supreme Court killing reason and thought and returning us to a white male supremacist value system?”

  33. June 26, 2022 at 12:34 pm

“When it comes to Thomas’ ruling on firearm regulations,
try to imagine a world in which most places you go in your daily you see people carrying firearms.
Does that make you feel more secure?
It might make the person with the gun feel more powerful and safer,
but imagine the rest of us.
A world with guns constantly present is a security-state that keeps us constantly insecure,
which is a state of terror,
not a state of freedom from fear.

But this is where the Supreme Court is bringing us—to a national life of less safety,
    more fear and insecurity,
    less rights,
    and more state repression.”

For a White House eager to show meaningful progress on bipartisan measures that will make a difference,
there’s a growing list of success stories.

    (Steve Benen)

“President Joe Biden signed into law the most sweeping legislation aimed at preventing gun violence in 30 years at the White House on Saturday shortly before departing for Europe for a series of meetings with world leaders. Biden called the signing of the legislation a “monumental day” and said it was proof that Democrats and Republicans could find common ground on important issues.” (nbc)

    • June 27, 2022 at 11:57 am

“The legislation creates resources for red flag grants to every state. Those that choose not to approve red flag laws will get related funds for other crisis prevention programs.

It closes the so-called “boyfriend loophole,” restricting the gun rights of non-spouse dating partners who are convicted of domestic abuse.

It makes new investments in mental health services and school-safety measures.

It brings new clarity to laws regarding licensed gun dealers, as a way to strengthen the existing background-check system.

It expands the background-check system for gun buyers under 21, allowing up to three days to conduct checks, and an extra 10 days if there are signs of concern.

It creates new criminal penalties for firearm straw purchasing.

But this modest, narrowly focused bill passed, it’s likely to save lives,
and it’s a breakthrough unlike anything Americans have seen in a generation.”

Jane Goodall is a primatologist most known for her long-term study of wild chimpanzees in Tanzania.
The Gombe chimp observation, which Jane began in 1960, is the world’s longest running continuous wildlife research project.

“We are not the only beings on the planet with personalities, thoughts, and – most importantly – feelings.”

“The nonverbal body language is the same for chimpanzees as it is for us. They use the same gestures and postures in the same context.”

Using stories from her remarkable life, research, and career, “The Book of Hope” (2021) explores questions like:
How do we stay hopeful? How do we inspire hope in the next generation?

    • June 27, 2022 at 12:54 pm

Jane Goodall, now 88, world renowned activist and researcher said yesterday:

“I see our species at the mouth of a very long and very dark tunnel,” she said, decrying rampant environmental destruction, prejudice, greed, poverty and war. But there’s a “little star” at the end of the tunnel: hope. To reach it, she said, humankind must struggle to overcome any obstacles in the way.
Hope isn’t just wishful thinking, it’s about action.”

a nation without universal healthcare, universal childcare, or paid family and medical leave,
with one of the highest maternal mortality rates among our peer nations, cannot be forced to give birth.

Young women and their mothers have been using abortion pills for quite some time elsewhere. Remember reading an article describing women taking a little time off, a mourning process, a gentle acceptance of reality
as it is. imho non wealthy women here deserve to be fully informed, ready with the pills in their dresser drawers, and ready to act early on in the pregnancy.
