THIS 👆👆. A thousand times, this. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. EVERY Dem across this country, federal, state and local, should do this over and over and over. It is the only way we beat them. Sadly, I do not have any expectations the Dems will or can do that. They just cannot message in this way. And, the Rs know it. ☹️😞😢😡😡😡😡😡

Agree! I often wonder what is it about us Dems (In General) that we cannot message. Benghazi, Benghazi, Bengahzi…Emails, Emails, Emails…. on and on…. I love most of our leaders but we need attack dogs that call out BS loud and clear.

DITTO!!!! I tweet 4 or 5 times a week about messaging. And, I am not the only one. I see it ALL THE TIME! Last night, Jaime Harrison tweeted about how much $$ the DNC had raised and how Dems would be on fire for 2022. My reply was something like “$$$$ is good, but great, strong messaging would be much better. I started scrolling through the replies and nearly every one was something about messaging and how bad ours is. It is frustrating and makes me angry. All they need to do is watch the Rs and learn from them. Of course, using truth and facts, but otherwise, it shouldn’t be that hard to repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat………

Thank you NW/UTAL, big hugs to yourself!

A while ago some of us were having log-in issues with WP, where by 70+ or so replies, we just kept getting a failure notification. So, it’s back to that for me, and I don’t understand it but I suspect it’s the gop finding ways to just mess with everything and everyone.

    Disinformation and Democracy Reading List

“Tomorrow, I’m heading to Stanford to deliver a speech about changes in the way we create and consume information, and the very real threat it poses to democracy. I’ve been reading up on this issue, sitting down with academics, researchers, industry leaders and former regulators, and listening to young leaders who are working to make progress.

Below is some of what I’ve read that offers useful context, solutions we can learn from, and interesting perspectives.

    APRIL 19, 2022

“Vice President Harris launched the Root Causes Strategy on July 29, 2021, to align U.S. Government efforts to address the economic, governance, and security drivers of irregular migration from Central America. Tackling the persistent challenges that drive irregular migration requires sustained political will and cooperation across a broad range of stakeholders to foster long-term development in the region. The Vice President has led progress on the Administration’s Strategy, including by traveling to Guatemala, Mexico, and Honduras to launch new initiatives that sustainably address the root causes of migration.”

      Social media is a tool.
At the end of day, tools don’t control us.
      We control them.
      And we can remake them.
It’s up to us to each of us to decide what we value.
And then use the tools we’ve been given to advance those values.
And I believe we should use every tool at our disposal to secure our greatest gift:

Press Gaggle by Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, April 21, 2022

    APRIL 21, 2022

“The focus of the President’s trip is fourfold.

One, to underscore the historic economic growth and nearly 8 million jobs created as a result of his and congressional Democrats’ actions, including the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and his administration’s work to lower costs for American families.

Number two, to emphasize the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s historic $25 billion investments in airports, such as Portland International Airport, which is upgrading its south runway so that the runway can survive an earth- — an — sorry — survive an earthquake. In 2022 alone, PDX will receive $20 million in funding from this program.

Number three, to mark Earth Day by speaking to the need to bolster our nation’s resilience in the face of threats like wildfire, and the need to rapidly deploy clean energy. We will have more details on Earth Day announcements later this evening for you all.

And finally, President Biden will call on Congress to pass his plan to lower healthcare and energy costs. He has already taken important steps to lower costs — from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve release and the extension of E15 gasoline to lower gas prices, to fixing the “family glitch” and enacting the Rescue Plan to save families that buy ACA coverage an average of $59 per person per month.

But he has also laid out an ambitious plan to continue to build on that work and lower the cost of healthcare, including prescription drugs. And Congress should act on that to ensure lower premiums; close Medi- — Medicaid coverage cap [gaps]; cap cost-sharing for Insulin; and let Medicare negotiate the price of prescription drugs.”

    1/6 Committee Member Jamie Raskin
Pledges to Tell “Whole Story” of “Coup Organized by the President”

Representative Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who sits on the House Select Committee tasked with investigating the events of January 6, did not mince words about the attack against the United States Capitol or about former President Donald Trump’s role in it.

“This was a coup organized by the president
    against the vice-president
    and against the Congress
in order to overturn the 2020 presidential election,” Raskin said in an interview with the Guardian, Reuters news agency and the Climate One radio program.

“We’re going to tell the whole story of everything that happened.
There was a violent insurrection and an attempted coup and we were saved by Mike Pence’s refusal to go along with that plan,” he added.

“We don’t have a lot of experience with coups in our own country
and we think of a coup as something that takes place against a president,” Raskin observed,
noting that the attack is typically not characterized as a coup because it did not involve the military or another societal faction attacking the seat of government.

    “It’s what the political scientists call a self-coup …
It’s a president fearful of defeat, overthrowing
    the constitutional process.”

“Do we allow our democracy to wither, or do we make it better?”

“Over the course of an hour-long address, Obama outlined the threat that disinformation online,

“Solving the disinformation problem won’t cure all that ails our democracies or tears at the fabric of our world.
But it can help rebuild the trust and solidarity needed to make democracy stronger.”

“Each of us has to pick a side. Do we allow our democracy to wither? Or do we choose to make it better?

President Biden Signs Executive Order to Strengthen America’s Forests, Boost Wildfire Resilience,
    and Combat Global Deforestation

    APRIL 22, 2022

“New actions will protect against wildfire threats, support local economies, and reduce climate pollution

Today, on Earth Day, President Biden will sign an Executive Order to expand his Administration’s historic and bold efforts to tackle the climate crisis, make our nation more resilient to extreme weather, and strengthen local economies. The President will sign the Executive Order in Seattle, Washington—rounding out a trip across the West focused on lowering costs for families and protecting communities from intensifying climate impacts. Wildfires and extreme weather events are growing in frequency and ferocity, engulfing communities in the West and across the country and costing lives, homes, and money. Because President Biden knows the cost of inaction is too great, he is taking bold executive action and reaffirming his calls on Congress to address the climate crisis.”

America’s forests are a key climate solution, absorbing carbon dioxide equivalent to more than 10% of U.S. annual greenhouse gas emissions. Federal lands are home to many of the nation’s mature and old-growth forests, which serve as critical carbon sinks, cherished landscapes, and unique habitats. However, these magnificent ecosystems are threatened by the climate impacts that are already here, with intensifying wildfires demanding urgent action to protect our forests and the economies that depend on them. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides historic wildfire resilience funding and calls for prioritizing the restoration of old-growth forests.

Building on this directive and the Administration’s commitment to climate-smart forest stewardship, today’s Executive Order will:

Safeguard mature and old-growth forests on federal lands, as part of a science-based approach to reduce wildfire risk.

Strengthen reforestation partnerships across the country to support local economies and ensure we retain forest ecosystems and sustainable supplies of forest products for years to come.
Combat global deforestation to deliver on key COP26 commitments.
Enlist nature to address the climate crisis with comprehensive efforts to deploy nature-based solutions that reduce emissions and build resilience.

Across these efforts, the Administration will leverage historic investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the FY 2022 budget, and work in partnership with states, Tribal Nations, communities, industry, NGOs, labor, scientists, and private landowners, to strengthen our forests while creating good-paying jobs.”

Our messaging would be universal if there were not all these different and conflicting forces within the Dem party…each with their own point of view……like in VT, the Dem Party endorses Sanders …and now the Utah Dems backing Republican McMullin …what mesage does all this say…and of course there are the so-called progressives…with their anti Biden message…aka..Nina Truner primarying Shontel Brown…and even Sanders is saying he may run in 2024…..

so yeah….Trying to get one message out is nearly impossible

    • April 24, 2022 at 12:03 pm

It’s the right wing Democrats who gummed up President Biden’s agenda, not the progressives who

In the end they did vote for the Infrastructure Bill – but didn’t get the BBB.

And so what about the extra speech stating their position to push the same msg as President Biden?

Progressive Caucus member Rep. Cori Bush is in the CBC.
What i do know is Justice Democrats supported current CBC member Jamaal Brown in 2019, but I expect some of their choices were not for African Americans.

Sheila, sorry. The word “expect” is not an English word I use in this way.
Meant to say that unfortunately they didn’t choose more African Americans, who are always over the top qualified. It is so maddening and so crushing. Apologies.

So, Emmanuel Macron is the first president in modern times who, after running every aspect of foreign and domestic policy for a full term, has once again won the trust of the people.

When you consider France’s longstanding relationship with government – which is essentially to cheer ’em in, then chuck ’em out at the first opportunity – this is no mean feat.

He has done it by two methods, the first of which bodes well for the next five years, the second less so.

The results suggest that hidden beneath the seething mass of social media caricatures – the arrogant Parisian rich, the angry provincial mob – there are millions of French people of the middling type who feel that Emmanuel Macron has not been at all a bad president.

These people appreciate that unemployment is no longer a political issue, largely because of Macron’s reforms. They think his handling of Covid was competent, and they agree that pushing back the age of retirement is inevitable.

They also discern a leader who can more than hold his own on the international stage. They are glad there is someone at the Elysée with the stature to talk straight with Putin, even if it proved a fruitless endeavour.

And they reckon that under Macron France can aspire to take the lead in Europe, at a time when his vision of greater military and economic autonomy for the EU is looking more and more relevant. The contrast on this front with Marine Le Pen could not have been starker.

These people may not particularly like Emmanuel Macron – he’s too different – but enough have come to respect him.

    Sorry for the tltr post.

    Slovenia votes out pro-Trump populist.

Slovenia’s populist Prime Minister Janez Jansa has suffered a heavy defeat in parliamentary elections by a left-leaning party formed only in January.

Mr Jansa’s Slovenian Democratic party took about 24% of the vote, compared to 34.5% for the Freedom Movement party led by former businessman Robert Golob.

The poll was marked by allegations that Mr Jansa has undermined the rule of law in the former Yugoslav state.

Mr Golob said his win will enable him to lead his country “back to freedom”.

An outspoken supporter of former US President Donald Trump, Mr Jansa was seeking a fourth term a prime minister and stood on a platform of “stability”.

Turnout for the vote was significantly higher than expected, with some 70% of the country’s 1.7 million residents going to the polls – an increase of 18% on 2018’s poll. A much tighter race had also been predicted.

Lazy left has to got to learn how to turn out election after election.

EXACTLY! And, to repeat: It is ALL about messaging and so far, I see zero effort from Dems on how to have and do POWERFUL messaging. It is so D— frustrating! All they have to do is watch and learn from the Rs, but of course, use truth and facts.

    Jonathan Bailey:

“GQ describes him as “one of the few gay British actors working onscreen
whose roles don’t seem defined wholly by their sexuality.”
Pride declared that he is proof gay actors can convincingly play straight roles,
with Out writing that Bailey’s visibility is inspiring LGBTQ+ performers to come out.”

Bridgerton not my cup o’ tea – would rather see him in Shakespeare- but seems to be making lots of people happy.
Has an amazing list of stage, film and tv performance.
