I was thinking or wondering this morning if the demand won’t go down on its own as prices keep rising. That’s usually the way it works. People begin to be careful of how much they drive so before you know it, the demand goes down, causing the price to go down too. But, a Don’t Buy Gas Day also sounds good!

The economic success story many Americans know nothing about
The disconnect between public attitudes on the economy and our economic reality is dramatic.

“A couple of days later, the latest Gallup poll found 42 percent of Americans describing national economic conditions as “poor” — up five points from Gallup’s previous survey — and 70 percent of Americans saying economic conditions are getting worse.

In other words, as the United States experiences one of the strongest economic recoveries in generations,
much of the public doesn’t even believe the recovery exists.”

“The unemployment is now 3.8 percent,
a level so low that the United States did not reach it at all throughout the 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s.
The economy created over 6.7 million jobs in 2021 — a total never before seen in the United States — and 2022 is off to an even more impressive start. Economic growth last year was the strongest in nearly four decades.

Not only did no one think this was possible a year ago, none of the other leading economies on the planet have had a recovery as robust as ours.”

–isn’t the reason the constant barrage of lies and disinformation? Which country does this remind you of?
When will we do something about Fox et al.? How far will we allow them to go?

–imho President Biden hisself must go around the country (like someone else did) and sell democracy, the 2022 economy, human rights, united against Putin. When he speaks we are impressed, as polls show.

I 100% agree about Pres. Biden going on a country tour and getting his message out because the media will never do it. However, with this war, he would be plummeted with criticism. The one thing he could do is what Pres. Obama used to do. Stay in DC, but do a boatload of local interviews all across the country. Right now, that would be the best. Not using fuel for the planes, all the vehicles that go with him, locals wouldn’t be using fuel for their police, etc.

thanks and gotcha tnmtgirl…..today someone who lived in Russia telling me that Putin $$Klepto has blamed lack of food for years on oil sanctions…so of course he wants ‘bread basket’ Ukraine. imho the thing is Putin would like to escalate his unjustified war and become Master and Commander of the Universe, and we can never please him or his fellow Gopskies no matter what we do. Above all we must do everything possible not to become controlled by the russian state media (American version) either.

Ukrainians Find That Relatives in Russia Don’t Believe It’s a War
Many Ukrainians are encountering a confounding and frustrating backlash from family members in Russia who have bought into the official Kremlin messaging.
    (excerpts)

    By Valerie Hopkins

“An estimated 11 million people in Russia have Ukrainian relatives. Many people living in Ukraine and holding Ukrainian passports are considered ethnic Russians, and a large percentage of Ukrainians living in the southern and western parts of the country speak Russian as their native language.

As Ukrainians deal with the devastation of the Russian attacks in their homeland, many are also encountering a confounding and almost surreal backlash from family members in Russia, who refuse to believe that Russian soldiers could bomb innocent people, or even that a war is taking place at all.”

    • March 8, 2022 at 11:34 am

“These relatives have essentially bought into the official Kremlin position:
that President Vladimir V. Putin’s army is conducting a limited “special military operation”
with the honorable mission of “de-Nazifying” Ukraine. Mr. Putin has referred to the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, a native Russian speaker with a Jewish background, as a “drug-addled Nazi” in his attempts to justify the invasion.

Russian television channels do not show the bombardment of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, and its suburbs,
or the devastating attacks on Kharkiv, Mariupol, Chernihiv and other Ukrainian cities. They also do not show the peaceful resistance evident in places like Kherson, a major city in the south that Russian troops captured several days ago, and certainly not the protests against the war that have cropped up across Russia.

Instead they focus on the Russian military’s successes, without discussing the casualties among Russian soldiers. Many state television correspondents are embedded in eastern Ukraine, and not in the cities being pummeled by missiles and mortars. Recent news reports made no mention of the 40-mile-long Russian convoy on a roadway north of Kyiv.

On Friday, Russia also banned Facebook and Twitter to try to stem uncontrolled information.”

    • March 8, 2022 at 11:36 am

“All this, Mr. Katsiurin said, explains why his father told him: “
There are Russian soldiers there helping people. They give them warm clothes and food.”

Mr. Katsiurin is not alone in his frustration. When Valentyna V. Kremyr wrote to her brother and sister in Russia to tell them that her son had spent days in a bomb shelter in the Kyiv suburb of Bucha because of the intensive fighting there, she was also met with disbelief.

“They believe that everything is calm in Kyiv, that no one is shelling Kyiv,” Ms. Kremyr said in a phone interview. She said her siblings think the Russians are striking military infrastructure “with precision, and that’s it.”

She said her sister Lyubov, who lives in Perm, wished her a happy birthday on Feb. 25,
the second day of the invasion. When Ms. Kremyr wrote back about the situation on the ground, her sister’s answer via direct message was simple: “No one is bombing Kyiv, and you should actually be afraid of the Nazis, whom your father fought against. Your children will be alive and healthy.”

    • March 8, 2022 at 11:37 am

“Ms. Kremyr said she sent photos from trusted media sites of mangled tanks and a destroyed building in Bucha to her brother, in Krasnoyarsk, but was met with a jarring response. “He said that this site is fake news,” she said, and that essentially the Ukrainian Army was doing the damage being blamed on Russians.

“It is impossible to convince them of what they have done,” Ms. Kremyr said, referring to Russian forces.”

“Parts of Kharkiv have been reduced to rubble, and its city hall is a burnt-out shell. Ms. Belomytseva said she was sending videos of the bombings to her relatives on Instagram, but they just responded with the Kremlin’s oft-repeated claims that the invasion is just a “special military operation” and that no civilians would be targeted.”

Bolton sheds light on why Putin didn’t invade Ukraine under Trump

As Bolton sees it, Putin saw an American president moving in a direction Moscow liked, and the Russian leader was waiting for Trump to finish the job.

The Senate Has Passed The Bill To Stop DeJoy And Save USPS

“It took 15 years, but a bipartisan group of Senators has scored a historic victory and stopped the destruction of the USPS.

The final vote was delayed by Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) who tried to block the final passage of the bill with a budget point of order, but that point of order failed 68-30. The legislation should have passed on February 15, but Sen. Scott objected to passage via unanimous consent and delayed the final vote for three weeks.

    The bill passed 79-19.

The legislation accomplishes two very important goals. It removes the Bush-era, pension prefunding requirement, which was bankrupting the USPS, and it requires USPS to offer 6 days a week delivery, so Postmaster DeJoy can’t cut service days to any part of the country.”

Remarks by President Biden Announcing U.S. Ban on Imports of Russian Oil, Liquefied Natural Gas, and Coal

    MARCH 08, 2022

“Russia’s aggression is costing us all, and it’s no time for profiteering or price gouging.

I want to be clear about what we’ll not tolerate, but I also want to acknowledge those firms in oil and gas industries that are pulling out of Russia and joining other businesses that are leading by example.”

    (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2022/03/08/remarks-by-president-biden-announcing-u-s-ban-on-imports-of-russian-oil-liquefied-natural-gas-and-coal/)

  44. March 9, 2022 at 1:30 pm

As Biden bans Russian oil, polls show broad support (for now)

Three national polls found Americans saying they back a ban on Russian oil imports, even if that means having to pay more at the pump.

WSJ: “A wide majority of Americans, 79%, said they favored a ban on Russian oil imports even if the prohibition increased energy prices in the U.S., according to data from a new Wall Street Journal poll. Just 13% said they opposed it…. The Journal poll surveyed 529 registered voters from March 4-7 on this question: “Would you favor or oppose the U.S. imposing new sanctions on Russia by banning the sale of Russian oil to the U.S., even if you knew it would cause U.S. energy prices to increase?”

Big Oil Rewarded Shareholders Instead Of Production And Now Americans Face Record Gas Prices

Republican outlets like Fox News and Republican officials are beating the drum of clearly misleading claims about Big Oil, blaming Democrats for Big Oil’s corporate greed.

“Gouging the Little People at the Gas Pump is Republicans’ Big White Hope for 2022,
and the bonus is a tidy portion of those profits go to their campaign funds.”

    Here: (https://www.msnbc.com/all-in/watch/ex-russian-foreign-minister-putin-is-acting-out-of-desperation-134907973798)

Ex-Russian foreign minister: Putin is acting ‘out of desperation’.

“He will double down—he will try to intimidate the West and intimidate Ukrainians,” says former Russian foreign minister Andrei Kozyrev, “He acts out of desperation. That is clear.”

    • March 9, 2022 at 1:39 pm

Mr. Kozyrev speaking to Ayman Mohyeldin:

“But it should be also a lesson to the West.
The West should not even think of coming back to business as usual with Russia.

They have to free themselves from their dependence on Russian oil and gas…
To keep sanctions before (until) Russia becomes a normal country,
a country to which you can rely to follow the rules, very simple rules.

Otherwise it will repeat itself every two, three years down the road.
You know not only with Putin himself, but with his entourage, which will probably inherit the power sooner or later.

So the situation is very tragic, but it should be a lesson for future.
Until Russia becomes normal country, no business as usual.”

We know why this is hard. Ukrainians see their children being sacrificed in order to protect the children of Europe. At the same time, using a No-Fly gives a signal for Putin to target NATO countries and who knows what follows after that…

President Zenlenskyy said in an interview just now:
“It is rhetorical…very bad for whom? Now is very bad, and in future will be too late.”

Meaning after every last Ukrainian has been massacred, it will be too late for a No-Fly.
(And maybe Putin will not stop there anyway.)

A terrible moment in the insanity of war, where nobody ever wins. We have to stop another zero conscience delusional psychopath…but how? Doing right action is hard, and I feel for those making critical decisions on behalf of the future of this planet.

    –imho, thx.
