I am so, so glad you posted that here. How magnificent of President Obama to send it out to the country at large, in support of our current POTUS and VP. He will always be one fine “class act” – not that any of us are surprised.

“Indeed, after making his controversial comments, McConnell added,
“A recent survey, 94 percent of Americans thought it was easier to vote. This is not a problem. Turnout is up, biggest turnout since 1900. It’s simply — they’re being sold a bill of goods.”

The poll he referenced exists: The Pew Research Center really did find that 94 percent of American voters described voting as easy in the 2020 cycle.

But the last four words of the last sentence are the ones that matter most.

As we recently discussed, the Pew poll was conducted in November 2020. I
n the months that followed, Republican policymakers, fueled by Donald Trump’s Big Lie,
approved 33 laws in 19 states that make it harder for Americans to participate in their own democracy.
And as dramatic as these efforts were in 2021, there’s already evidence the GOP’s anti-voting crusade will continue in 2022.”

Voting rights fight does new damage to Manchin’s governing model

“We don’t need to change the Senate’s filibuster rules, Manchin has said, we simply need well-intentioned officials to sit down, talk, listen, and reach responsible agreements.

And in the end, not even one Senate Republican broke party ranks.

If this sounds familiar, it’s not your imagination. The same thing happened on the measure to create an independent Jan. 6 commission. And immigration. And policing reforms. And a Covid-relief package. And now voting rights.

Or put another way, Manchin’s model is predicated on the idea that GOP senators are members of a governing party, which will work in a serious way on policymaking. What Republicans keep telling Manchin is that they’re not who he thinks they are.

Now that the GOP has discredited Manchin’s preferred model, what is he prepared to replace it with?

Rudy Giuliani Reportedly The Ringleader Of Fake Trump Elector Scheme

“Rachel Maddow shares new reporting from multiple outlets that Rudy Giuliani was the Trump campaign official who ran the operation to get states that Donald Trump lost in 2020 to nonetheless deliver Trump electors to represent those states in the final count.”

    • January 21, 2022 at 12:45 pm

“Giuliani and his allies coordinated the nuts-and-bolts of the process on a state-by-state level,
the sources told CNN. One source said there were multiple planning calls between Trump campaign officials and GOP state operatives, and that Giuliani participated in at least one call. The source also said the Trump campaign lined up supporters to fill elector slots, secured meeting rooms in statehouses for the fake electors to meet on December 14, 2020, and circulated drafts of fake certificates that were ultimately sent to the National Archives.”

CNN’s report added that Giuliani and Trump campaign officials “actively choreographed the process” behind the scenes.”

My own personal mission…I am running for committee person in my community…and will work with other DEMs to ensure that a DEM replaces Pat Toomey in the Senate…and that we return a DEM to the Governorship…

Is Ginni Thomas a Threat to the Supreme Court?
Behind closed doors, Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife is working with many groups directly involved in controversial cases before the Court.
    by Jane Mayer

“The claim that the Justices’ opinions are politically neutral is becoming increasingly hard to accept,
especially from Thomas, whose wife, Virginia (Ginni) Thomas, is a vocal right-wing activist.
She has declared that America is in existential danger because of the “deep state” and the “fascist left,” which includes “transsexual fascists.” Thomas, a lawyer who runs a small political-lobbying firm, Liberty Consulting,
has become a prominent member of various hard-line groups.”

    • January 23, 2022 at 12:34 pm

Mayer says Thomas is paid unlimited amounts by secret clients…isn’t it time to get the Supreme Courts to abide by an ethics code as do the lower courts? Eh we can see you Ginny!

Trans people are picked on by people like Thomas because they’re easy targets, easy to bully while no threat at all. They want to exist, live in peace with the same rights as cis gendered people.

“Manchin is insisting that no voters, no voters are going to be harmed in any way by what’s happening out there now.”

“Well the most inconvenient thing about that is that Marc Elias, who is fighting all these cases,
does not agree with that. Marc Elias was one of the strongest supporters of this bill because he knew all this work couldn’t be done in court. Merrick Garland, the Attorney General, got up before the country a few days ago and said that Congress needed to act to give the Justice Department the power it needed to go to court to fight some of these voter suppression measures.

And what’s really disturbing about these arguments is that the filibuster, as Amy Klobuchar pointed out,
has been changed again and again and again. Mitch McConnell changed the filibuster to help put three Republican appointees on the Supreme Court with just 51 votes.

So it’s absolute nonsense to treat the filibuster rules as some sacred writ, especially sacred writ that came from the founders because the filibuster didn’t even exist for the first 17 years of the Congress, and arguably came into effect kind of by accident in rules rewrite by Aaron Burr of all people.”
