Surprise: the Big Bang isn’t the beginning of the universe anymore
We used to think the Big Bang meant the universe began from a singularity.
Nearly 100 years later, we’re not so sure.

“Until the day comes where we discover how to extract more information from the universe than presently seems possible, we have no choice but to face our ignorance. The Big Bang still happened a very long time ago, but it wasn’t the beginning we once supposed it to be.”

Good West Coast morning Nerdy & TOD family.

I’ve been struggling with some complex situations that I must get out of my head. Here goes…

I’m reading and hearing about President Biden and the Beijing boycott and his reasons for our Diplomats boycotting the Olympics. Well, here’s where my confusions come in – I just received some items I ordered from the White House Souvenirs. One item had a label that said “Made in Taiwan” and another was labeled as “Made in China”.

If the White House boycott is due to “ongoing crimes against humanity”, why are we supporting their labor abuses?

I’m struggling with this y’all. Aren’t we contributing to the labor abuse? Why aren’t these items “Made in America”?

    “A Moment of Hope”:
Xiomara Castro’s Likely Win in Honduran Election Ends Years of Right-Wing Rule After Coup

“We go to Honduras, where thousands took to the streets to celebrate the leftist presidential candidate Xiomara Castro’s lead in the polls ahead of the right-wing National Party candidate Nasry Asfura.
The historic election saw a record voter turnout and could signal the end of the 12-year brutal regime under the conservative National Party, which rose to power after a coup backed by the U.S. in 2009 overthrew democratically-elected leftist President Manuel Zelaya.
Castro, who is Zelaya’s wife, would become the first woman to serve as president of Honduras I
f her victory is confirmed. “It’s brought hope to the entire country,” says Faridd Sierra, a high-school teacher in Comayagua, Honduras. Years of corruption and conservative law-making “showed the Honduras people just how cruel the [National] Party was and … they voted in response,” adds Honduran scholar Suyapa Portillo.
Castro’s likely win “is a testament to bottom-up organizing,” she says.”

    “Rosanne Boyland hated politics.
She was shy, and she rarely left her home in Georgia. But then her family got a shocking call:
Rosanne had died at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in the middle of a crowd trying to force its way past a police line.

From the depths of their grief, the Boylands vow to figure out what happened to Rosanne.
Her brother-in-law, Justin Cave, reaches out to an old high school friend he hopes can help:
    MSNBC journalist Ayman Mohyeldin.

The quest for the truth takes Ayman back to his hometown of Kennesaw, Georgia, where he retraces the last six months of Rosanne’s life and picks up a trail that leads to childhood haunts, missing boyfriends, and down shadowy internet rabbit holes.” (Nov 22 episode)

Summit for Democracy will follow the money
One of the key issues at the summit will be to crack down on global money laundering.
    By Sheldon Whitehouse

“America is engaged in a clash of civilizations,
pitting democracy and the free market on one side against kleptocracy and corruption on the other.
We have vital national security stakes in this contest: Almost all the international evil that has come America’s way in recent decades has come from regimes outside the rule of law, from terrorist attacks to election subversion. That’s why it is a contest we must win.”

NASA Selects New Astronaut Recruits to Train for Future Missions

“NASA has chosen 10 new astronaut candidates from a field of more than 12,000 applicants to represent the United States and work for humanity’s benefit in space.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson introduced the members of the 2021 astronaut class, the first new class in four years, during a Monday, Dec. 6 event at Ellington Field near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

“Today we welcome 10 new explorers, 10 members of the Artemis generation, NASA’s 2021 astronaut candidate class,” Nelson said. “Alone, each candidate has ‘the right stuff,’ but together they represent the creed of our country: E pluribus unum – out of many, one.”

Remarks by Vice President Harris at the Maternal Day of Action Summit

“But the truth is women in our nation — and this is a hard truth — women in our nation are dying. Before, during, and after childbirth, women in our nation are dying at a higher rate than any other developed nation in our world.

And we know that, for some women, the risk is much higher. When we know that, we should do something about it. When we know that, today, Black women are three times as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, we should do something about that.

When we know that Native American women are more than twice as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, we got to do something about that.

When women who live in rural America, which has many maternal care deserts — meaning there are no maternal care facilities — and when we know that women in rural America, for that and other reasons, are about 60 percent more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, we need to do something about that.

And think about it: Regardless of income level, regardless of education level, Black women, Native women, women who live in rural areas are more likely to die or be left scared or scarred from an experience that should be safe and should be a joyful one.”

Trump’s ‘propaganda ecosystem’ priming supporters for violence: Gellman

“Barton Gellman, staff writer for the Atlantic magazine, talks with Rachel Maddow
about how Donald Trump and his supporting media have so thoroughly imbued Trump supporters
with contempt for their political opposition that they’ve made violence an obvious and permissible conclusion.”

    • December 7, 2021 at 3:47 pm

TRUMP’S NEXT COUP HAS ALREADY BEGUN
January 6 was practice. Donald Trump’s GOP is much better positioned to subvert the next election.
      (Barton Gellman)

“Technically, the next attempt to overthrow a national election may not qualify as a coup.
It will rely on subversion more than violence, although each will have its place.
If the plot succeeds, the ballots cast by American voters will not decide the presidency in 2024.
Thousands of votes will be thrown away, or millions, to produce the required effect.
The winner will be declared the loser.
The loser will be certified president-elect.

“The prospect of this democratic collapse is not remote. People with the motive to make it happen are manufacturing the means. Given the opportunity, they will act.
      They are acting already.”

    Barton Gellman’s prediction:

The Election That Could Break America
“If the vote is close, Donald Trump could easily throw the election into chaos and subvert the result. Who will stop him?”

A Utah group is going door to door looking for election fraud. But they don’t want you to know about it

Who is behind the Utah Voter Verification Project?
A Tribune investigation uncovers some troubling tactics and connections.

“Last week, residents in Hurricane alerted Washington County officials that strangers were coming to their doors asking questions about the 2020 election.

The questioners did not wear name tags and refused to identify themselves or what organization they were with, according to the complaints.

Residents said they also appeared to have the personal voter information of the people they were questioning.”

—–yeh i hope they come to my door.

    • December 8, 2021 at 11:58 am

“When UVVP volunteers knock on a door, they’re instructed to record audio or video
without the consent of the person being recorded.
This is legal as Utah is a single consent state,
which means only one person needs to know they’re being recorded.
“We can record anyone without telling them. We don’t need permission…”

—-Again if you’re trying this on nationwide, pls come to my door. Just call me outraged.

Seven days: Following Trump’s coronavirus trail
    (Parker, Dawsey)

“When he first learned he had tested positive for the coronavirus, President Donald Trump was already aboard Air Force One, en route to a massive rally in Middletown, Pa.

With him on the plane that Saturday evening were dozens of people — senior aides, Air Force One personnel, junior staffers, journalists and other members of the large entourage typical for a presidential trip — all squeezed together in the recirculating air of a jetliner.

“Stop the president,” White House physician Sean Conley told Chief of Staff Mark Meadows,
according to a new book by Meadows set to publish Tuesday that was obtained by the Guardian newspaper.
“He just tested positive for covid.”

Opinion: The media treats Biden as badly as — or worse than — Trump.
    Here’s proof.

    (Quotes list of headlines.)

“Artificial intelligence can now measure the negativity with precision.
At my request, Forge.ai, a data analytics unit of the information company FiscalNote,
combed through more than 200,000 articles —
tens of millions of words —
from 65 news websites (newspapers, network and cable news,
political publications, news wires and more) to do a “sentiment analysis” of coverage.

Using algorithms that give weight to certain adjectives based on their placement in the story,
it rated the coverage Biden received in the first 11 months of 2021
and the coverage President Donald Trump got in the first 11 months of 2020.

The findings, painstakingly assembled by FiscalNote vice president Bill Frischling, confirmed my fear:
My colleagues in the media are serving as accessories to the murder of democracy.”

    BRENNAN CENTER

    Addressing Insider Threats in Elections
There is an active effort to recruit rogue election officials to sabotage elections across the country.
    (Norden, Tisler)

“Election officials were some of the biggest heroes of the 2020 election. After a grueling year that saw a pandemic, unprecedented disinformation efforts, and the highest turnout in over a century, they stood up to pressure from political actors seeking to overturn or cast doubt on the election results in key states. This collective, bipartisan effort helped avoid a constitutional crisis last year.

But the effort to sabotage our elections has only intensified, which is why Congress and state and local governments must take critical steps to protect against insider threats.”

Running out the clock…what ‘Executive privilege’?
Hello step to deligitimize Congress as an Institution, and say it has no power to subpoena? Local trumpy tv channel here immediately did some biased reporting.

imo one can view everything they do as trump reverse-finger pointing. From QAnon and trump’s likely pedaphilia…to accusing others of ‘stealing the election’ when it was trump who did so in 2016 with Putin’s help…to blocking the vaccine and manufacturing preventable death tolls.

—When will we respond fast, and in like manner put trumpQ on the back foot?
