    Good News For Democrats
CBO Score Means Build Back Better Is Fully Paid For

The White House explained why this is good news for Democrats
in a statement provided to PolitcusUSA:

–Good news for Democrats – the cost elements came in lower than the White House estimates – in the ballpark of $50bn lower cost.
–The savings from the prescription drug reforms came in $50bn higher – at $300bn compared to the White House’s estimate of $250bn.
–That means that the bill will be more than fully paid for.
–As long understood, CBO’s numbers on tax enforcement are lower than the Treasury’s estimates. Democrats have long known and anticipated this – will not be an issue.

Chart of the updated numbers for Build Back Better here:

    Senator John Kennedy (R-LA):
“I don`t mean any disrespect. I don`t know whether to call you professor or comrade.”

    Saule Omarova, Kazakh-American Attorney:
    “Senator, I`m not a communist.”
“My family suffered under the communist regime. I grew up without knowing half of my family.
My grandmother herself escaped death twice under the Stalin regime.”

    • November 19, 2021 at 11:55 am

      Senator Warren:

“Professor Omarova, I know that the giant banks object to your willingness to enforce the law to keep our system safe and that you may cut into big bank profits. So they and their Republican buddies have declared war on you. The attacks on your nomination have been vicious and personal.
We’ve just seen them, sexism, racism, pages straight out of Joe McCarthy’s 1950s red scare tactics.
It is all there on full display. Welcome to Washington in 2021.
Now, one claim is that you intend to nationalize the banking system. So, let`s just get this nonsense out of the way. Does the OCC have the power to end private banking and to move all consumer deposits to a public ledger?”

      Omarosa: “Absolutely not.”

A side “big deal” about all this is that when Joe selected our VP and other members of his administration in so many areas of expertise, he said he was “building a back bench.” VP Kamala Harris was #1 on the list. I’m hoping Joe finishes out his full term, but he cares enough about our country to find the right people in the right roles to carry on the work.

This “Acting President” milestone today was historic!

    Joy Reid:
“More than 100 high-profile religious and civil rights leaders joined the family of Ahmaud Arbery for a wall of prayer, as the trial of 3 men accused of killing the 25-year-old continues. Reverend Al Sharpton led the effort.”

    Rev. Sharpton:
“And we had well over 350 pastors and Martin Luther King III and others, Reverend Jesse Jackson and others, with us today. Because he (the Judge) insulted all of us that have gone into courtrooms for years. AND have seen people on the other side bring who they want to court.”

    Reid
“And (Paul Butler) said that the description of the way these men chase down Ahmaud Arbery,
it was like the old slave catchers or like an old-time lynching. Where they just chase a man through the streets, demanding he do what they say. Just because these white men are telling you to do it, you must do it. And then killed him! And then thought nothing of it, never even told the police this excuse that they’re now using. But just sitting in that trial, tell us how this looks to you, having dealt with so many civil rights cases and murders of Black people.”

    Rev. Sharpton:
“This is the most blatant example of a mentality that ‘We are allowed, we are empowered to do we want to any Black’.

For him to admit today on the stand, one of the defendants,
they never even said ‘You’re under arrest, this is a civil arrest, a private arrest’.
Or whatever he want to call it, so then what is it?
If you’re claiming you were making a citizen’s arrest, and you didn’t say that.
If you’re claiming self-defense, which you never said until now. Then it really was saying, ‘We have the right to do whatever we want to do’.

We’re back to Dred Scott: that a Black man has “No Rights Which the White Man was Bound to Respect”.
And they were not arrested for days, they were not dealt with for many weeks until this video came out until some of us starting exposing this. And stood with this family.”

    • November 19, 2021 at 1:02 pm

      Rev. Sharpton:

“Until the local police understand there’s federal law and they will be prosecuted,
and they will be treated like anybody that breaks the law, they will continue to edit, leave out what they wanted to do and did not want to exposed. As they did in the Malcolm X case, until they understand that we will not tolerate it, and there will be federal law, it will not go municipality to municipality, county by county.

      We need federal law.
As they vote tonight (Infrastructure Bill), they need to come in with Voting Rights, and they need to come in with the George Floyd bill immediately. We cannot keep being policed by people that need to be policed, and there’s no federal law to protect us.”

As Elie Mystal pointed out this was not normal. The judge was biased towards Rittenhouse at every stage.
100% his decisions were all one way, like it was his son on trial.

Rittenhouse choosing his witnesses out of a hat was embarrassing.

Galveston TX A Test Case For Republicans Redrawing Districts To Make Elections Irrelevant

“Ari Berman, senior reporter for Mother Jones, talks with Rachel Maddow about how Republicans in Galveston, Texas, no longer encumbered by the Voting Rights Act, are redrawing voting districts to eliminate Democratic voter power, making elections an empty exercise unless Congress passes new voting rights legislation.”

  46. November 19, 2021 at 5:54 pm

Opinion: The redistricting apocalypse is here
    (Waldman)

“The word “redistricting” doesn’t carry the same inherent drama as a crowd of rabid thugs breaking doors and windows to storm the Capitol. But the way it’s proceeding right now, in its own way it’s just as much of an assault on our democracy.”

    A few highlights:
—In Texas, Republicans essentially eliminated electoral competition. Only one of the state’s 38 congressional districts will be competitive under the new map; 13 will be safely Democratic, and 24 will be safely Republican. If recent trends persist, the majority of the state’s voters will be voting for Democrats within a few years, but Republicans will still control nearly two-thirds of the House seats.

—In North Carolina, one of the most closely divided states in the country, Republicans drew maps that created 10 GOP seats, just three Democratic seats and one competitive seat.

—In Georgia, where Democrats recently won the presidential contest and two Senate races, state Republicans just released a map that would give them control of nine of the state’s 14 congressional districts. They essentially made it impossible for Rep. Lucy McBath, a prominent Black Democrat, to win reelection.

—In Utah, legislators rejected a map drawn by an independent commission in favor of one that divides Salt Lake County, which Joe Biden won, among four districts so that all will be Republican.
In perhaps the most egregious gerrymander of all, Republicans in the Ohio legislature are pushing through a new map that will ensure that as many as 13 of the state’s 15 congressional seats will be held by Republicans.

In perhaps the most egregious gerrymander of all, Republicans in the Ohio legislature are pushing through a new map that will ensure that as many as 13 of the state’s 15 congressional seats will be held by Republicans.
All these gerrymanders are being duplicated in maps for state legislatures. This is a key part of the system: If Republicans can draw state legislative lines that make it impossible for Democrats to gain power, they can then use control of the legislature to keep drawing its lines and those of congressional districts to maintain their grip.

    Let’s consider Ohio in detail:

Floor Speech on H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act

“With the passage of the Build Back Better Act, we – this Democratic Congress – are taking our place in the long and honorable heritage of our democracy, which – with legislation that will be the pillar of health and financial security in America. It will be historic in forging landmark progress for our nation. We talk about history as we look and prepare for the future.

Much has been said since the distinguished Democratic leadership spoke last evening. Much has been said on this Floor. But the facts are these: following the vision of President Biden, guided by the expertise and energy of our Chairs, Members and staff, we have a Build Back Better bill that is historic, transformative and larger than anything we have ever done before. ‘Building Back Better with tribal sovereignty as the foundation’
Each tribe, like each state, has unique needs based on population, geography and capacity

    by Gov. Stephen Roe Lewis
    Gila River Indian Community

“In October 2020, I met with then-candidate Joe Biden and vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Both promised an administration that would not only recognize tribal sovereignty, but leadership committed to making decisions based on that sovereignty. Tribal nations, they vowed, would be treated as equal partners in all government-to-government relationships and agreements.

In Indian Country, we have heard such promises many times before. As the White House Tribal Nations Summit has approached, a quick review of the actions taken by the administration to date shows that this White House has, in fact, shown a sustained commitment to Indian Country during the first year of the Biden presidency. Something else is noticeable as well: This administration has taken the foundation of the federal-tribal relationship and built upon it.”

    Indigenous airline takes off
Canadian-based airline Iskwew Air has commenced its first scheduled flight

    Kalle Benallie
    Indian Country Today

The first 100 percent Indigenous woman-owned airline launched its first scheduled flight on Aug. 16 after a delay from the pandemic.

“COVID has been absolutely devastating to Iskwew Air and the entire industry,”
Founder and Lead Executive Teara Fraser, Métis, told Indian Country Today. “An airline startup in a global pandemic is literally next level impossible.”
The flight departed from Vancouver International Airport, where it was welcomed by Musqueam and Qualicum First Nations. The airline first asked the Musqueam people to do business on their lands.
Musqueam cultural knowledge keepers, Thelma and Art Stogan, greeted them with a celebratory water salute, blessing and cedar brushing.
The flight headed west, across the Strait of Georgia, the arm of the Salish Sea, to Qualicum Beach Airport.
There, it was welcomed by Qualicum Chief Michael Recalma with a blanketing ceremony and welcome song from local cultural representatives.
“It is important to uplift Indigenous land story, sovereignty, and stewardship at every opportunity,”
Fraser said in a news release.

Renowned Minnesota Native artist George Morrison to be honored with new stamp series
    by Dan Kraker

“Celebrated Minnesota artist George Morrison — who was born in a Native American fishing village along the North Shore of Lake Superior in 1919, but whose art career took him around the world — will be featured on a new stamp series to be released next year by the U.S. Postal Service.

Morrison is regarded as one of the greatest American abstract expressionist painters, a contemporary and friend of artists like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning during the modern art movement that flourished in New York after World War II.

Five of Morrison’s colorful, abstract landscape paintings will be featured as part of the Postal Service’s Forever Stamp release in the spring of 2022.”

Go for the ice cream, the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

HD – any media spin that said otherwise honestly did not register with me.
From the get-go Joe has been doing an impossibly marvelous job, and i could feel the lights coming back on. Think of the humungous mess doom left behind him and the horrific daily death toll. We’d all been mentally abused soo severely. Remember babies dying on the border in jails alone, without their mothers, and nothing you could do about it. It was an endless nightmare for the country. And then ahhh we were blessed with President Biden and Dr. Biden and the Harrises. Ahh what a godsend. Am so grateful

Statement by President Biden on Transgender Day of Remembrance

“This year, at least 46 transgender individuals in this country—and hundreds more around the world—
were killed in horrifying acts of violence. Each of these lives was precious. Each of them deserved freedom, justice, and joy. Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we mourn those we lost in the deadliest year on record for transgender Americans, as well as the countless other transgender people—disproportionately Black and brown transgender women and girls—who face brutal violence, discrimination, and harassment.

In spite of our progress strengthening civil rights for LGBTQI+ Americans,
too many transgender people still live in fear and face systemic barriers to freedom and equality.
To ensure that our government protects the civil rights of transgender Americans, I charged my team with coordinating across the federal government to address the epidemic of violence and advance equality for transgender people. I continue to call on state leaders and lawmakers to combat the disturbing proliferation of discriminatory state legislation targeting transgender people, especially transgender children. As I have said before, these bills are nothing more than bullying disguised as legislation, they are un-American, and they endanger the safety and well-being of our children. I also continue to urge the Senate to swiftly pass the Equality Act so that all people are able to live free from fear and discrimination.

Transgender people are some of the bravest Americans I know. But no person should have to be brave just to live in safety and dignity. Today, we remember. Tomorrow—and every day—we must continue to act.”
