    President Obama:

“Many young people are now starting to realize
“I’ve got to make my interests heard if I have the opportunity to vote’.
So in the 2020 US presidential election young people were more likely than older votes to say that climate change was their top concern. And they also voted at a rate 11 points than in 2016. That’s the kind of thing that makes politicians sit up and take notice. As one 20-year old organizer said ‘Young people understand that if we want to save our lives and our future then we have to do it ourselves’. And this is part of your power that you have to use.

Don’t think that you can ignore politics. You don’t have to be happy about it but you can’t ignore it. You can’t be too pure for it. It’s part of the process that is going to deliver all of us.

Yes the process will be messy. I guarantee you every victory will be incomplete. We will face more setbacks.
Sometimes we will be forced to settle for imperfect compromises because even if they don’t achieve everything, at least they advance the cause. At least they move the ball down the field. But if we work hard enough for long enough, those partial victories add up. If we push hard enough, stay focused enough and are smart about it, those victories accelerate and they build momentum. If we listen to those who are resistant and we take their concerns seriously and we work with them, and we organize and we mobilize, and we get our hands dirty in the difficulties of changing political dynamics in our countries, those victories start happening a little bit more frequently.
If we stay with it we will get this done.

So to all the young people out there, as well as those of you who consider yourselves young at heart:
I want you to stay angry.
I want you to stay frustrated.
    And channel that anger.
Harness that frustration. Keep pushing harder and harder for more and more.
Because that’s what’s required to meet this challenge. Gird yourself for a marathon not a sprint. For solving a problem this big, this complex, has never happened all at once.”

    PBO quotes William Shakespeare:
“What wound did ever heal but by degrees?”

    Barack Obama
Returns to Climate Talks With a Call for ‘Ongoing Activism’

“In his remarks, the former president spoke directly to young people,
who have filled the streets of Glasgow and around the world to demand more ambitious action on climate change from their leaders. He urged them to keep up the pressure on governments, institutions and businesses to cut the emissions that are heating the Earth.

“The cold hard fact is, we will not have more ambitious climate plans coming out of governments unless governments feel some pressure from voters,” he said.”

““The most important energy in this movement is coming from young people,” he said, to applause from the audience. “And the reason is simple. They have more at stake in this than anybody else.”

He said he understood the psychic weight carried by younger generations,
and the anger that many feel about inheriting a world where storms have become more ferocious and frequent, heat waves more deadly, where species are disappearing and the future feels frightening.

“I’m the father of two daughters in their early 20s,” he said.
“It’s not always easy being young today. For most of your lives, if you’re in that generation, you’ve been bombarded about what the future will look like if we don’t do anything about climate change. And you’ve grown up watching the adults either act like the problem doesn’t exist or don’t do anything about it. It’s a real source of anxiety and some of you no doubt wonder if you’ll be safe.”

And he acknowledged that he, too, sometimes felt overwhelmed by the crisis.”

“He made a glancing reference to his successor, Donald J. Trump,
who pulled the United States out of the Paris accord and unwound more than 100 of Mr. Obama’s environmental regulations, calling the period “four years of active hostility toward climate science, coming from very top of our government.

Mr. Obama also called out the Republican Party.
“One of our two major parties has decided not only to sit on the sidelines, but express active hostility toward climate science and make climate change a partisan issue,” he said.

In Washington, President Biden’s climate agenda is stuck in a spending bill pending in Congress that Republicans have refused to support.

“Saving the planet isn’t a partisan issue,” Mr. Obama said, adding that politics don’t matter “if your Florida house is flooded by rising seas, or your crops fail in the Dakotas or your California house is burning down.
Nature, science do not care about party affiliation.”

Statement by Vice President Kamala Harris on Her Trip to France

“It is fitting that the trip coincides with Armistice Day and Veterans Day. During World War I, and throughout our history, members of the United States and French armed forces fought side by side in defense of freedom. The courage and commitment of our military service members is a source of national pride and gratitude. We honor their sacrifice by continuing the work—bilaterally and multilaterally—to build a better and more peaceful future.

I am departing for France on the heels of important progress for the American people, following passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal which will make America more competitive. And I look forward to building on our progress here at home by working with our allies and partners to advance this Administration’s agenda—and our country’s interests—around the world.”

    Press Briefing
by Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg

    Secretary Buttigieg:

“When combined with the Build Back Better Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal — which, collectively, I like to think of them as the “Big Deal” — an answer to the New Deal or the Square Deal before that — they’re going to create a generation of good, union jobs. They’re going to make historic investments in equity and in the fight against climate change. They’re going to make sure that America can compete and win in the decades ahead.

This is the largest investment in roads, bridges, and highways since the creation of the Interstate Highway System, including the largest investment in our bridges ever so that we can avoid devastating closures and disruptive collapses like we’ve seen, including what we saw in Tennessee, in Florida, and far too many other places.

It’s also the largest investment in public transit ever, with funding that will expand service to communities of all sizes, including improvements for seniors and for people with disabilities. It’s going to replace thousands of outdated buses with clean, zero-emissions vehicles and aging railcars with state-of-the-art new ones.

It’s the largest investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak itself. And transformative impacts in traffic safety will be achieved. And it’s going to strengthen our supply chain by improving our ports, our airports, and our freight rail. ”

DeSantis’ weird version of Florida has found the perfect pandemic-era surgeon general

“During his short tenure, Ladapo has been on a rampage.
He issued an order forcing schools to allow students who have been exposed to COVID and aren’t showing symptoms to attend in-person classes — even though asymptomatic people can transmit the coronavirus. Last week, he gave a speech that misconstrued the coronavirus vaccine’s efficacy.

Any display of common sense or courtesy has been difficult to find in Florida’s government.

On Ladapo: “He has proven he’s not worthy of the $512,000 per year he will earn along with a tenured professorship at the University of Florida.”

    Green Climate Fund:

“There is a shrinking window of opportunity to address the climate crisis.
Average global temperature is currently estimated to be 1.1°C above pre-industrial times.
Based on existing trends, the world could cross the 1.5°C threshold within the next two decades and 2°C threshold early during the second half of the century.

Limiting global warming to 1.5°C is still narrowly possible and will be determined by the investment decisions we make over the next decade.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) – a critical element of the historic Paris Agreement – is the world’s largest climate fund, mandated to support developing countries raise and realize their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) ambitions towards low-emissions, climate-resilient pathways.”

Obama at COP26: ‘We can’t afford anybody on the sidelines’

“Collectively and individually, we are still falling short. We have not done nearly enough to address this crisis.”

“Back in the United States, some of our progress stalled when my successor decided to unilaterally pull out of the Paris Agreement in his first year in office, I wasn’t really happy about that – and yet, the determination of our state and local governments, along with the regulations and investment that my administration had already put in place, allowed our country to keep moving forward.”

“There is one thing that should transcend our day-to-day politics and normal geopolitics – and that is climate change.”

Speaker Pelosi calls for investigation into GOP’s Paul Gosar
Paul Gosar pulled his controversial anime video, but that’s done little to calm the political backlash.

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday called for multiple investigations into the posting of an animated video by Rep. Paul A. Gosar (R-Ariz.) that depicts him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and swinging two swords at President Biden…. “Threats of violence against Members of Congress and the President of the United States must not be tolerated,” Pelosi said.

“In any other job in America, if a coworker made a video killing another coworker,
that person would be fired,” the group’s co-chairs — Pennsylvania’s Matthew Cartwrigh, Michigan’s Debbie Dingell, California’s Ted Lieu, and Colorado’s Joe Neguse — said in a joint statement.”

The highway history that Republicans really ought to know

“To his credit, Buttigieg has spent months talking about the problem of racism
built into the nation’s transportation system, and while much of the right has pushed back, reality is on the secretary’s side.”

    NPR reported in April,
“Planners of the interstate highway system,
which began to take shape after the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956, routed some highways directly,
    and sometimes purposefully,
    through Black and brown communities.
In some instances, the government took homes by eminent domain.”

The people in charge of America are secretly lizards, which we need to take into account whenever they give us public health advice. ‘You shouldn’t trust Western medicine at all because it’s made with alien DNA’.
How else could they make those pills for stuff except by extracting DNA for aliens, and cramming it into the people and trick you into taking it. That’s how the lizard people stay in charge.”

He was one of the first people in Congress, in 1986, to introduce legislation to address the climate crisis.

    Neil Katyal re: John McEntee.

“Nobody ever heard of this guy – Michael’s absolutely right – Johnny McEntee.
Certainly nobody in legal circles. And now all of a sudden, he’s the guy who’s writing the legal strategy for the President of the United States during a contested election?
I think this demonstrates a real big problem in government. It’s true in every administration.
There are always yes-people who surround themselves with Cabinet officials of presidents who say, “Don’t worry about that pesky law this or that, here’s some way around it’.
    And it’s invariably bogus.
But that’s why process matters so much. And here, that Jonathan Karl reporting, Jonathan that you mentioned, says basically, that this guy set up a rogue legal team to plot a coup.”

    Miles Taylor,
former administration chief of staff, DHSS:

“But to your point Chris – I’ve got to say this.
When the hell are Trump supporters going to wake up?
What else do they need to hear to understand that the man they support was viewed by his OWN lieutenants
as a dangerous authoritarian overseeing a bunch of many dangerous authoritarians?

Now we’re not talking about a bunch of ‘disgruntled employees like me and Olivia’ which is what the president (trump) says we are.
We’re talking about his own former Chief of Staff!
His own former National Security Adviser!
So I’m a former White House Comms Director.
The list goes on and on. And these are people who’ve sounded the alarm and said that Trump’s lieutenants
    were acting like the Gestapo.”
