    The Obama and Springsteen Interview

“Former President Barack Obama and singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen sat down with Anthony Mason to discuss their podcast “Renegades: Born in the USA,” which launched in February and inspired their book of the same name, which will be released on October 26.”

Their book “Renegades” is out this Tuesday.

Pls consider when reading what Manchin said that:
Manchin comes from the second poorest state in the country with a 16% poverty rate.

    Senator Manchin (D-WV)
“I know my work ethic. I know the basic of where I came from. I know the people that I represent. And we’re just concerned about the entitlement mentality versus a rewarding mentality…” (yes he said “we”)
    (video)

    Joy Reid to Pamela Garrison,
“What do you make of it when you hear Joe Manchin talk about an ‘entitlement mentality’ in his state?

Pamela Garrison, West Virginia Poor People’s Campaign:
“Well to me it’s a slap in the face of West Virginians. It is cold-hearted, immoral.
When you tell the poorest people in the nation that – talk about an entitlement, when we’re just asking for a decent living wage, we’re just asking for an opportunity, to me, that’s elite talk. That’s what elites say to their peasants, is how it comes over to West Virginians.”

    Reid:
“ When I look at the data on West Virginia, it ranks 50th an Infrastructure. It ranks 48th in the Economy,
47th in Health Care, 45th in Education. The average cost of child care is $728 a month.
That’s 17% of the median family income in your state. Only 11% of West Virginia families can actually afford infant care the way things are now. And Joe Manchin has proposed a child tax credit change that would lock 37 million children out of getting aid. What do you think motivates Joe Manchin?

    Garisson:
“I’m 62. (In WV) the older population,
our whole life we were taught to fight and stand up for the mines and the miners.
    And that`s how we lived.
But we haven’t been that in 20 years or more.
The younger generations has grew up watching their families struggle with low-wage, minimum-wage jobs just to get them through school. And to me, it’s just immoral.
I just cannot believe that he is going to CUT (thousands of) jobs from West Virginians.
We’re ready to move on from the coal industry.
We only have about 10,000 miners.
He’s going to sacrifice 98% of us to keep (on) the same.
Telling us, ‘Well I can’t change nothing. I have got to keep the status quo’.

    • October 22, 2021 at 1:34 pm

      Garrison:
“Well you know West Virginians, we’re beyond the status quo. We’re at the bottom, we’re on fire
trying to get his attention. He says he ain’t heard from us.
You can’t turn around in Washington without seeing a West Virginian.
      We’re having rallies everywhere.
      It’s not that we’re not talking – it’s that he`s not listening.
      WE WANT THE WHOLE BILL.”

      Reid:
“Do you think it’s partly because he and his family are in the coal business? Do you think that influences
the way that he thinks about his state and the laws that he wants to pass?”

      Garrison:
      “Well it’s manipulation.
We have been manipulated into thinking that (coal) the only thing that West Virginia has to offer.
We don’t. The people of West Virginia and the state of West Virginia, we have a lot to offer.
And we want to move on.
We’re going to have a rally in Charleston at 4:00.
And we want everyone to join us.”

    wanna say
that if my grandfather and his sons had been given a chance, had been offered re-training,
the chance for a cleaner world
for themselves and their children, they would’ve
    RUN LIKE HELL
out of that coal mine into the light, towards the solar/clean energy/retraining program,
    and raised their glasses
    to whoever made it possible.

      President Obama:
      (excerpts)

      “We’ve been making progress.
The national unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been since the pandemic started.
In Virginia it’s even lower. Schools have reopened. Jobs are coming back.
Businesses are starting to recover, we’re moving forward.
Now we’ve got a choice. We can go backwards. We can plunge right back into the misguided policies of the divisiveness, and the negligence that made this pandemic so much worse than it ever had to be.
Or we can build an economy that works for everybody not just a few.
Where kids have a shot at a great education and workers can get the skills they need for good new jobs. Where we follow the science when it comes to the pandemic. Where we work together and we listen to each other. And we move this country forward. That’s what Terry is running on. That’s why he wants to be your Governor. That’s why you got to get out there and vote!”

“So I understand why sometimes folks get tired.
We can’t afford to be tired. Because of these young people right here…and the young people that are coming…It’s hard in a big country like this where people disagree a lot to get everybody moving in the same direction. But here’s the thing we can make it better…I didn’t get everybody health care in America,
but we got a whole lot more people health care in America. It makes a difference when we decide to make things things better. And when you’ve got somebody in your corner…who has a track record of accomplishment. Somebody like Terry who is responsible and serious, he’s worth fighting for.”

“We don’t have time to be tired.
What is required is sustained effort…I was remembering that in first my presidential election, I spoke in Grant Park about a woman 106 years old who had voted for me, Ms. Cooper. And I tried to imagine everything that she had gone through in her life. Born in the shadow of slavery, deep in the midst of Jim Crow. A time where women when she was born didn’t have the right to vote, much less Black folks. And yet she described how she, the minute she had the chance to vote would never miss it. Including up to the time where the first African American nominee of a major party had the chance to become President of the United States. She had witnessed all that.
And I thought “Now she’s not tired. I can’t be tired.”
If John Lewis wasn’t tired, we can’t be tired.
If the folks who had to fight for Union rights across the country weren’t tired, we sure can’t be tired.
If the suffragettes weren’t tired, we can’t be tired. So go out there and fight and work because you’re going to decide this Election, and the direction of Virginia, and the direction of this country for generations to come. Don’t sit this one out. And make sure you vote for Democrats up and down the ballot, including for state legislature where a lot of important work actually gets done.”

Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen talk “Renegades”

The former president and the singer-songwriter, longtime friends, have shared their stories in a podcast, and now a book: “Renegades: Born in the USA.” Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen sit down with correspondent Anthony Mason to discuss the influence of their fathers on their life’s work, and the shared narratives that drive the surprisingly similar fields of popular music and politics.

Discovery at Central High School in Philadelphia…

Indigenous bones found at Philly school, will be repatriated
Skeletal remains identified as having belonged to an Indigenous adult man were discovered inside Central High School, the district announced Friday.

Temple archaeologists will help repatriate the remains by identifying the man’s former tribe and advising on handling. The bones were likely acquired in the 1800s, when it was common to use real human skeletons for educational purposes.
A Central High staffer found the remains back in June, Layla A. Jones reports, kicking off a process that involved school district lawyers and the U.S. Department of Interior.

Saudi Arabia’s crown prince suggested using a “poison ring” to kill the late King Abdullah, a former top Saudi intelligence official has alleged.

In an interview with CBS, Saad al-Jabri said Mohammed bin Salman told his cousin in 2014 that he wanted to do so to clear the throne for his father.

There were tensions within the ruling family at the time over the succession.

The Saudi government has called Mr Jabri a discredited former official with a long history of fabrication.

In his interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes programme Mr Jabri warned that Crown Prince Mohammed – Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler and the son of King Salman – was a “psychopath, killer, in the Middle East with infinite resources, who poses threat to his people, to the Americans and to the planet”.

    Rep. Raskin:
Tweets From Insurrectionists Called Jan. 6 ‘Civil War Part 2’
“Steve Bannon was referred to the Department of Justice for charges of criminal contempt by the U.S. House of Representatives in a bipartisan vote on Thursday. Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, joins The ReidOut with his account of that vote, including the clash between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene
    and Rep. Liz Cheney.”

  58. October 25, 2021 at 12:28 pm

Congressman Raskin, Jan 6 Select Committee member.
    (Thursday)

“No we won’t tolerate perpetual denial here.
And remember we’re collecting evidence every single day.
The vast majority of the people that we’ve reached out to are testifying voluntarily or they’re meeting with the Committee. They’re doing interviews. We’re picking up lots of information about everybody and everything. And our goal of course is to present a comprehensive and detailed portrait of the events of January 6, the causes of January 6, and then what we need to do to prevent this from ever happening again.
But we’re certainly not going to let anything drag on for 8 months, 9 months, ten months, nothing like that.
We’re on a much more rapid timetable. And if you think about it, what could be a more important issue than the safety of Congress and the security of democracy itself moving into the future?
And the way we see it is this Insurrection/Coup is really still going with the Big Lie.
Just today, president trump issued a statement asserting that the Insurrection was on November 3rd.
The day of the Election is what he’s calling the Insurrection, again to further confuse people and to cloud the issue. That demonstrates we’re in a continuing danger.”

  59. October 25, 2021 at 12:34 pm

“And then after the Election in the lead up to January 6,
we know that Bannon was involved in Donald Trump’s insurrection plot, his plot to overturn the Election.
He spoke to Trump the week before the attack on the Capital, encouraged him to focus on January 6.
That’s the day of course, the electoral votes would be admitted and counted.
Bannon was also present at a meeting on January 5th at the Willard Hotel
held to try to persuade members of Congress to block the certification of the election.”
    (Chris Hayes)

And on that same day, Bannon made these damning comments
    on his podcast.
Steve Bannon, Senior Counselor to the former president:
“Listen all Hell is going to break loose tomorrow. Just understand this. All Hell is going to break loose tomorrow. It’s going to be moving. It’s going to be quick.” (video clip)

    Bannon:
“This is going to be very controversial. We are going into uncharted waters.
We’re going into something that’s never happened before in American history.
Tomorrow it’s going to — we’re PULLING THE TRIGGER on something that’s going to be —
and it’s going to be minute by minute, hour by hour what happens.
    The stakes couldn’t be higher.”
    (evening Jan 5, video clip)
