Happy International #DayoftheGirl! Today I’m celebrating the promise that exists within every girl. When we invest in that promise, we empower them to change their communities for the better. Join me and the @GirlsAlliance in supporting girls’ education: https://t.co/dwyLjHlyo7pic.twitter.com/mVYsPN8onA
The future of our world is only as bright as our girls.
“Right now, more than 98 million adolescent girls worldwide are not in school.
That’s why the Girls Opportunity Alliance, a program of the Obama Foundation, is teaming up with GoFundMe to encourage people around the world to take action by helping to break down the barriers that keep girls from fulfilling their potential.
Some of these barriers are child marriage or early pregnancy. But often they are attitudes and beliefs—the belief that girls simply aren’t worthy of an education; that women should have no role outside the home; and that their bodies aren’t their own, their minds don’t really matter, and their voices shouldn’t be heard.
When we invest in girls’ education, it doesn’t just benefit them—it benefits all of us. An educated girl can lift up her family, her community, and her country. When girls get the opportunities they deserve, amazing things start to happen. Poverty goes down, economies grow, families get stronger, babies are born healthier, and the world, by all accounts, gets better.”
“Of course, McConnell did not propose the two-month extension out of the goodness of his heart,
a concern for the institution of the Senate, or his concern for the country and the economy.
He had demanded that Democrats raise the debt ceiling through the vehicle of budget reconciliation, making it more difficult or impossible for them to use reconciliation for their broader, ambitious agenda on human infrastructure.
He feared that, pushed to the edge by the obstruction, and unable in any case to use reconciliation in time, Democrats in the Senate at the 11th hour would have carved out an exception for the filibuster’s 60-vote threshold — opening the door to further exceptions, and then to broader filibuster reform.”
“In the aftermath of the violent insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, incited by Donald Trump,
where the lives of Vice President Mike Pence and scores of members of Congress were at risk, two-thirds of House Republicans, upon returning to the trashed Capitol late that afternoon, still voted that the election of Joe Biden was illegitimate.
Some of their members have likened the assault to a typical tourist visit, and have tried to whitewash the history.
Subsequently, Senate Republicans filibustered and killed a carefully balanced bipartisan commission to investigate what was behind the insurrection. In the face of evidence that several of their own, in the House and Senate, had helped plan or incite the violence, there has been no pushback or sanction by GOP leaders in both bodies against them.”
Saw this morning that President Obama will be campaigning at one upcoming event for Terry McAuliffe. So glad he’ll be out and about, helping HIS party! We are so lucky.
The only reason a Prosecutor would choose not to Indict Trump is the fear that if he did his cult would start a Civil War. But if you don’t Indict a man who tried to overthrow the Government, that Civil War has already been lost.
Life is pretty much back to normal here in Norway. And we have no mask mandates, no vaccine mandate, no mandated social distancing. It’s amazing how much freedom you get when you just listen to and follow the science 🤷🏼♀️
Ms Sheinbaum’s latest announcement was made on 12 October – the anniversary of Columbus’ discovery of the Americas.
In the US it is widely celebrated as Columbus Day. But in Mexico and other Latin American countries it is known as Día de la Raza (Spanish: Day of the Race). Many view it as a commemoration to native resistance against European conquest.
Ms Sheinbaum said she wanted to make the change as part of the “decolonisation” of the famous Reforma Avenue, where an empty plinth currently stands.
She added that the new monument – set to to be three times as tall as the Columbus statue – was in recognition that “indigenous women had been the most persecuted” during and after the colonial period.
The original Young Woman of Amajac was discovered in January in Veracruz.
It is believed that the sculpture depicts a leading female member of the Huastec people at the time of its creation.
The original currently sits in Mexico City’s Anthropology Museum, which is going to create the replica.
To keep things in perspective, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger both voted against raising the debt ceiling. I’m thrilled they draw the line at insurrection but they’re perfectly willing to destroy the U.S. economy just to keep their party—which has rejected them—in power.

Black flag:
Understanding the Trumpists’ latest threatening symbol
Trump zealots have begun flying black U.S. flags, which signal no quarter for enemies.
It’s a threat of violence.
“It’s an old truism that the “real bad men” (and bad women) “move in silence and violence.”
That’s certainly true for the most dangerous and most effective of Donald Trump’s allies, henchmen, henchwomen, and other followers.
But for Donald Trump himself, and most of his political cult, that rule does not apply.
Trump and his followers were loud, exuberant and enthusiastic on Jan. 6.
The lethal attack on the Capitol had been publicly announced weeks in advance, and should have come as no surprise. Trump’s rallies and gatherings continue to celebrate violence and the prospect of revenge — and specifically of “getting even” with Trump’s “enemies.”
The black flag…if you are not a member of this cult = death to you. Only far right, white, straight, cis need apply. This idea that ‘God’s will (trump) is being thwarted’. When you mix religion and politics you get the Taliban, ISIS. What is happening about the domestic terrorist designation? What’s the hold up?

Kaepernick’s New Book Advocates for the End of Policing and Imprisonment
By Delaina Dixon
“Colin Kaepernick has fully come to grasp that the only way to get ahead of the establishment is to build something of your own. This revelation led the former football player turned activist to launch Kaepernick Publishing in 2019, with the mission to elevate a new generation of writers with diverse views and voices to help build a better and more just world. Now the publishing house is releasing its first powerful offering, Abolition for the People: The Movement for a Future Without Policing & Prisons. A collection of more than 30 essays, the anthology examines the anti-Black roots of policing and imprisonment. Writers and activists such as Mariame Kaba, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Kiese Laymon, Derecka Purnell, and others share their thoughts and findings through historical exposition, researched data, and personal essays—some that take us through their own firsthand realities of being incarcerated. Artist Emory Douglas, best known as the former minister of culture for the Black Panther Party, designed the striking cover art.”

Florida School Board Member Details Terrifying Harassment By Anti-Maskers
“Jennifer Jenkins, Brevard County Florida School Board member, joins Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss the harassment she has faced for supporting masks and why “it only takes one person to terrorize you.”
Lawrence O’Donnell:
“What is it like to be in your home with your (5 year old) daughter watching that stuff?
Jennifer Jenkins:
“It’s really difficult. The last protest where they came outside of my home. Again, I’m not against people using their First Amendment rights. They’re on public property. That’s okay.
But I’m against them terrorizing my family.
There was 25 individuals standing outside my home in a small beach town in Florida. They were there for hours. Police presence didn’t come right away. It started to get dark out. It was time for me to put my daughter to bed, and as I’m sitting trying to read her a story, these individuals are walking right by her bedroom saying vile things. And as I followed them around the corner to where their cars were parked into a parking lot right behind my home, police presence wasn’t following them until I was there.
They got in my face. They coughed in my face telling me they were going to give me COVID. They swung flags in my face, nearly missing me by a couple of inches. They said horrible disgusting things to my neighbors. And I eventually went back inside, but they brandished their weapons in the parking lot in front of my neighbors. And my daughter to this day at least twice a week, Mommy are those mean people going to be outside again?….they vandalized my property…they wrote obscenities in my grass with weed killer.”
PM Trudeau made it a federal crime to harass school board officials and health-care workers.

We are one, maybe two, elections away from a constitutional crisis. More than a year ago — before Election Day — Donald Trump made clear that he would not accept the results of free and fair elections if he did not win. Too few people paid attention, discounting it as the ravings of a soon-to-be failed candidate. In the days following the November 2020 election, Trump and his allies executed a plan to subvert the election results. While they failed, Republicans learned from the experience and are prepared to try again. The future of our democracy rests on whether those committed to free and fair elections will prepare as well.
Looks like my piece today shook up the former failed one-term president 👀

Walter Shaub,
fmr Director U.S. Office of Government Ethics:
“Well sadly, I think timidity. It’s the same thing we’re seeing with the Justice Department.
There seems to be this fear that they’ll be viewed as engaging in retribution, politically motivated, or that they may face retaliation themselves from a future administration.
But I think it’s a failure to grasp that we’re so far outside of the norm and in such dangerous territory,
that the greater risk in my view is the impunity from a lack of the government holding anyone accountable.
It sentences us a nation to endure more of this because future bad actors will know they can get away with it.”
Can you imagine if we lose our republic with Congress NEVER having used its lawful power of inherent contempt to enforce its subpoenas? There’s no shame in fighting for what’s right & losing. There’s nothing but shame in refusing to fight for what’s right for fear of losing.

ARE WE READY!??? The Fierce Urgency of NOW!

Republicans looking to manufacture voter fraud where they haven’t found any: Marc Elias
“Marc Elias, Democratic voting rights attorney,
talks with Rachel Maddow about the Republican strategy to change voting laws
with the hopes of producing mistakes that can be spun as fraud,
and what politicians and pro-democracy Americans can do about it.”
“And what about now? What is preventing any meaningful oversight now?” (Lawrence O’Donnell)
LIVE NOW…
