During day kept taking him outside and praising him highly whenever he peed or pooped. (Cannot tell if you know this already but enjoying your tale of woe.) If he does one inside, sweetly show it to him it and then carry him outside.

What West Virginians want from Manchin:

Poll shows WV voters support using tax hikes on rich, corporations, to help pay for Biden plan

“Gary Zuckett, executive director of the West Virginia Citizen Action Group,
    said Manchin should rest assured
that West Virginia voters will have his back if he votes for the $3.5 trillion bill,
as long as he also closes the significant loopholes
within the American tax system that would help pay for it.”

“After polled voters were given the option of raising taxes on the richest Americans and corporations,
while closing the loopholes that have caused significant wealth disparities,
support for the plan rose as high as 70%.”

More Than Half of America’s 100 Richest People Exploit Special Trusts to Avoid Estate Taxes

“Secret IRS records show billionaires use trusts that let them pass fortunes to their heirs without paying estate tax. Will Congress end a tax shelter that has cost the Treasury untold billions?”

    • October 1, 2021 at 11:42 am

      Joy Reid:

“This comes as Congress is debating a way to use increased taxes on the wealthy and corporations to pay for Biden’s Build Back Better plan, something we keep hearing that America ‘just can’t afford’.

The White House released a report last week showing that the country’s 400 wealthiest families
have been able to slash their income tax bills to an average rate of 8.2% due to loopholes in the tax code. That rate is 5% below what the average American, – meaning you all – pay.

But we’re not just talking about personal income taxes here. Corporations are also a big problem.
This year alone, 55 corporations paid zip, zero in federal income tax, including FedEx, Nike, and American Electric Power. While Amazon wasn’t on this year’s list, it still avoided $2.3 billion in federal income taxes last year, according to the institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.

These people have enough cash to literally launch themselves into space for a quick vacay, but nope, America cannot afford to do any spending on its regular ordinary people.”

Indigenous Advocacy Organizations Issue Joint Statement
in Support of Survivors of Violence for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

by National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, StrongHearts Native Helpline,
Alaska Native Women’s Resource Center, Indian Law Resource Center, Urban Indian Health Institute, Rising Hearts Coalition and Pouhana O Na Wahine

“LAME DEER, Montana — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month,
highlighting a critical issue for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN), and Native Hawaiian women who experience domestic violence at significantly higher rates than other women.
According to the National Institute of Justice, more than 1.5 million American Indian and Alaska Native women and 1.4 million Native men have experienced violence in their lifetime, often by non-Indian perpetrators.
According to a 2018 report by the Office on Hawaiian Affairs, the rate Native Hawaiian women experience violence is nearly twice as high as that of non-Hawaiian women.

We cannot stress this truth enough: domestic violence is not traditional to Indigenous cultures and is a lasting effect of colonization. Domestic violence happens when a person directs one or multiple types of fear-inducing abuse (ex. physical, emotional/verbal, sexual, financial, cultural, spiritual, or digital) toward a relative to maintain power and control. Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a form of domestic violence when a current or former spouse or intimate partner engages in a repetitive pattern of fear-inducing abuse toward their partner to maintain power and control in a relationship. This pattern of abuse can happen in relationships where couples are dating, married, living together, have a child together, or after the relationship has ended.”

Native America Calling: Indigenous culinary innovation

“Corn was originally cultivated by Indigenous people in what is now Mexico.
That led to another important Indigenous innovation whose origin dates back about 3,000 years: nixtamalization.
It’s the process of soaking corn in an alkaline solution with hardwood ash or limestone to break down its natural barrier, releasing niacin, an integral part of human nutrition. It’s also turned corn into a culinary staple leading to commonly used foods like corn tortillas and hominy.”

Native America Calling will talk about the origins and science that made its way into the historical and contemporary culinary traditions.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) (spoke) in opposition to the confirmation of Robert T. Anderson to serve as the Solicitor at the Department of the Interior.

“Barrasso urged his colleagues to vote against Anderson’s confirmation.
Despite his stance, the Senate voted 53 to 44 on September 29 to approve the nomination. Three Republicans joined all 50 Democrats in supporting Anderson.

Anderson, an attorney who has worked in public and private service for more than two decades,
is the second Native person to oversee legal affairs at Interior, the federal agency with the most trust and treaty responsibilities in Indian Country. He has been working for the Joe Biden administration since January 20.”

Coast Guard repatriates Alaska Native remains at Point Spencer, Alaska
by Petty Officer 1st Class Nate Littlejohn, U.S. Coast Guard District 17, DOD DVIDS

“Archeologists have determined that hundreds of years ago,
Point Spencer served as a traditional meeting point and trading market for the Sinramiut and other
regional Iñupiat bands. Neighboring Kauwerak people visited Point Spencer on an annual basis for sea mammal hunting. The Sinramiut had ancestral ties and trade relationships with the people from Little Diomede and Wales. Trade fairs occurred at Point Spencer during the summertime and drew Iñupiat groups from across the Bering Strait, Arctic, and northwest Alaska.”

“This has been an exceptionally significant site to the ancestral Iñupiat for many thousands of years,” said Edmund Gaines, a contracted archaeological consultant with Brice Environmental, who was instrumental through the repatriation process. “We have layers upon layers of occupations, extending back more than two millennia.”

Durham’s Attempt to Discredit Trump’s Enemies Is Falling Apart Trump’s prosecutor omitted key evidence from his indictment.

The first weakness in the indictment is that even if every word Durham writes is true, the charge he has amounts to a very, very small molehill. Interested parties uncover crimes all the time. There’s just no reason to believe that Sussmann’s relationship with a law firm working for Clinton would have made any difference to the FBI — which was already investigating Trump’s ties to Russia and which wound up discarding Sussmann’s lead anyway as a dry hole.

Second, the evidence that Sussmann lied to the FBI is extremely shaky. As Benjamin Wittes notes, the sole basis for charging Sussmann with perjury is the recollection by FBI official Jim Baker. Baker testified to Congress that he remembered very little about his conversation with Sussmann, i.e.:

wtf is garland’s doj doing about it? as usual, zilch.
