Labor Day is about honoring folks like Maurice Harris—a devoted husband and father of five, who has spent his career working in the trades in Chicago. He'll soon help build our Obama Presidential Center. Here’s his incredible story: https://t.co/ibiXpJpT5K
I get stronger each day though there are lingering affects. Still tire easily. Still have night sweats that interrupt my sleep. Last two days, had to keep using my emergency inhaler even though 02 levels are great. Kept taking deep breaths every few minutes. The inhaler helped!

We have an election in 2 weeks. A group of protesters have been following Trudeau around … today some of them even threw stones at him while he was getting in his bus.
Polls apparently are showing that the Conservatives are leading… which is a shame. The left is split here … liberals and the NDP… vote split gives the Tories a win. Very stupid but here we are (always have been).
The leader for the Tories has been flip flopping saying he will reverse assault rifle (??) ban which the Liberals currently have in place.
I think the protesters are being paid to protest. Why would anyone be stupid enough to protest at hospitals?
And at campaign stops — targeting only Trudeau.
there is only one party trying to stop gun violence, listening to science on the pandemic, trying to raise the minimum wage and help workers, fighting for the constitutional rights of women, and gives respect to people of all races and religions. It ain't the GOP. Vote Blue.
"I don’t know of anything in the history of Black people in this country in which I’ve read some account in which it ended with, “and then they gave up.” That’s just not what we do. I know we work for the future of our children and our grandchildren and their children." pic.twitter.com/4gAoLPUiaR
I think that Americans do know what is needed…but i do not know if white America is willing to sacrifice..to give up their privilege…or are courageous enough to do what is needed to save our democracy and bring about A More Perfect Union…
Sadly Sheila, too many of the “good white folks” would rather not have to face this “constant” reminder. It’s easier for them to escape to a cabin or lake and relax. They fail to realize that we Black folks can NEVER take a day off to just “forget”. And that if they would help us, we could bend this arc of justice a little bit more and quicker. MT, when they asked me to speak at their wedding back in January, I was so touched. Nephew is my late brother’s son. Knew he’d be sorely missed. So worked it, until the Celebrant wanted all in advance! Sent it to her, & she was blown away. I was supposed to be first speaker, she changed program so that my speech would end the service. Didn’t know that until I got there, to venue! My friends in our Chips land gave thumbs up. 😇
BTW, fell in love w/ Chips land. Beautiful folks, real & humorous, tight families, gorgeous part of land I was visiting. Hard to leave. Amazing hiking areas, & then pubs in every village! 😂 🍻 (You might have to go beyond one village to find a grocery store, but there’s a pub in every village! 😜) But most of all were the lovely folks I met along the way! Yup I was an honorary villager! 😇😂 I could easily hang out there again. Again, hard to leave. My friends in Chips land totally spoiled me! 😘💞

Especially those new friends & family of the OVER 600,000 people who died of #COVID19 thanks to Trump & GOP. If each of them have at least 10 adults who loved them, that’s 6 million new blue votes unless they don’t blame GOP. #VoteBlue2022 please! Our lives depend on it! 🙏🏽❤️
Also remember to vote for all Dems. Congressman and Senators not just your buddies on the Town Board. We'd have more Congress Reps and Senators if people had voted for more than Biden.
Barr didn’t want you to see the Mueller Report. Republicans don’t want you to see their January 6 phone records. Trump doesn’t want you to see his taxes. Arizona republicans don’t want you to see their communications with cyber ninjas. I could go on and on here.

LOVE this. Good for her. This could very well be my granddaughter…..and she has had COVID. Still wears her mask every day and thinks everyone should wear a mask all the time. She is quite vocal about it.
Here's a fact: There have been ZERO consequences to Republican politicians who were responsible for inciting January 6 so they are going to do it all over again on September 18.
Thousands of Trump Supporters Answered Bannon’s Call to Seize GOP at Local Level
“One of the loudest voices urging Donald Trump’s supporters to push for overturning the presidential election results was Steve Bannon. “We’re on the point of attack,” Bannon, a former Trump adviser and far-right nationalist, pledged on his popular podcast on Jan. 5. “All hell will break loose tomorrow.” The next morning, as thousands massed on the National Mall for a rally that turned into an attack on the Capitol, Bannon fired up his listeners: “It’s them against us. Who can impose their will on the other side?”
When the insurrection failed,
Bannon continued his campaign for his former boss by other means. On his “War Room” podcast, which has tens of millions of downloads, Bannon said President Trump lost because the Republican Party sold him out. “This is your call to action,” Bannon said in February, a few weeks after Trump had pardoned him of federal fraud charges.”
“Precinct officers are the worker bees of political parties, typically responsible for routine tasks like making phone calls or knocking on doors. But collectively, they can influence how elections are run. In some states, they have a say in choosing poll workers, and in others they help pick members of boards that oversee elections.
After Bannon’s endorsement, the “precinct strategy” rocketed across far-right media.”
I was crying when I dropped my parents off at the airport and I told them I would miss them a lot and my mom was like “can you please stop sobbing people are gonna think we’re human trafficking you”
YIIPPEE!!!!! Keep it that way. Keep checking those antibodies. I wonder what mine are. Covid breakthrough and an infusion of Regeneron. I can’t have the booster (Pfizer) until at least 90 days from when I got the infusion. We are very grateful that my husband got his booster last week. (Moderna)
Besides the fatigue, I am finding a number of after affects. The night sweats, UGH! Really disturbs my sleep. Sometimes bad, sometimes minor, but it still wakes me. I never really lost taste or smell, but there’s some foods and drinks that don’t taste “right.” One that is confounding is my left eye. Much of the time, it feels like I either have a stye or am getting one. I keep putting my stye medicine on it and taking a Tylenol. Both help some, but not totally. Of course, no way to know how long any of these will last. I just hope all my strength has returned by early Nov. when my knee surgery is rescheduled. (Should be there right now.)
“President Biden traveled to Louisiana (on Friday) to tour the damage left behind by Hurricane Ida.
Nearly a million people are still without power and the heat index just topped 100 degrees.
The President met with local leaders and emergency officials. And at a round table with Governor John Bel Edwards, he reiterated the need to address the climate crisis.” (Chris Hayes)
President Joe Biden:
“We have a significant piece of legislation, both the Infrastructure Bill and a Budget Reconciliation Bill,
that calls for significant investment in being able to deal with what is about to come. In other words for example, when you guys are putting back up those high-tension wires again and that’s working, you’re not going to put up the same exact system. You guys are going to have to build it better. And it’s resiliency.”
Hayes:
“Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia penned an op-ed in the “Wall Street Journal” yesterday
of all places, calling for a PAUSE to the $3.5 trillion framework which he voted to pass just 3 weeks ago or at least ‘continue ahead’.
Greg Sargent writing in WaPo
says Manchin’s move could have dire long-term consequences
especially if it is not resolved before the November Climate Conference in Scotland.
Quoting a foreign affairs expert,
Sargent warns that a lack of commitment to the bill’s clean energy standard would send a signal to the world
the U.S. isn’t taking this seriously. And would embolden other nations to choose not to engage.
Eric Klinenberg, Prof of Sociology, NYU:
“who has written extensively about the climate crisis is currently leading a major research project on climate change and the future of cities” speaking to Chris Hayes.
Klinenberg:
“We have to look granularly now, but we also have to start to look at the big picture.
This is a once in a lifetime moment we are in right now to turn things around.
I heard Senator Manchin say, ‘Congress needs to take a pause this week’. But I don’t know how your week was. In New York City it didn’t sure didn’t feel like climate change took a pause.
In the United States it doesn’t feel like the health crisis has taken a pause. Now is our time to act.”
Klinenberg:
“There’s so many disasters that have been invisible.
We haven’t recognized them.
In some cases they don’t have spectacular imagery.
So people die in heat waves not just because it’s very hot, but also because we have a lot of very poor and very old, and very isolated people, who tend to suffer invisibly every day.
And they’re at risk when a heat wave comes around.
Why did so many people die in New York City?
Why did people drown to death in these floods? (40+ people).
Well it’s partly because we have tens of thousands of people in New York City who live in effectively basement apartments. We call them ‘garden apartments’ euphemistically .
It’s a story about social class and social protection.
It has become a line in progressive circles that climate change is a social justice issue. I think that’s absolutely right. But we need to show the substance of that. We can’t just deal with climate as a weather problem. It’s connected to the everyday inequalities that organize American life. And Chris I think that’s why it’s so important that we own up to this moment with a policy agenda.
You know when I hear some members of Congress say ‘Let’s slow down and put the brakes on infrastructure’ (I hear them saying) ‘Let’s get through this one particular crisis we’re having this month and do everything we can to get back to the status quo. Let’s conserve the order of things now’.
I think there’s another big rising part of America:
I think it’s the majority saying “We have seen enough”.
When we launched the #ObamaScholars program three years ago, we hoped to equip the next generation of leaders with the tools and skills they could use to change their communities for the better. To our newest Scholars—congratulations! We can’t wait to see the good you’ll do. https://t.co/1OpJ7s8cYz

Michael K. Williams, Omar From ‘The Wire,’ Is Dead at 54
“Mr. Williams, who also starred in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Lovecraft Country,” was best known for his role as Omar Little in the David Simon HBO series.”
“In 2008, he had a moment of clarity at a presidential rally for Barack Obama in Pennsylvania.
With Mr. Williams in the crowd with his mother, Mr. Obama remarked that “The Wire” was the best show on television and that Omar Little was his favorite character.
They met afterward, but Mr. Williams, who was high, could barely speak. “Hearing my name come out of his mouth woke me up,” Mr. Williams told The New York Times in 2017.
“I realized that my work could actually make a difference.”
I don’t know what happened on that set, but I am thinking about the cast and crew on Lovecraft Country. Also, how deeply work affects artists as humans. The levels of depth MKW gave us came at a cost. pic.twitter.com/4CgxnZKzbz

Texas abortion ban should wake Democrats up:
A dystopian hellscape awaits without filibuster reform.
“Republicans understand that being openly anti-abortion is bad politics. That’s why both Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh pretended, during their confirmation hearings, that they had no intention of overturning Roe — and why shifty Republican politicians like Sen. Susan Collins of Maine pretended to believe them. And it’s why GOP pundits have resorted to gaslighting the public about this decision.”
Thrilled to hear “that the DOJ will investigate and prosecute anyone
who interferes with women seeking reproductive health services,
or who damages facilities that provide it.”
–thx AG Garland.

We’re facing an all-out assault on our democracy. We need to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect the sacred right to vote.
This framing is so disappointing. “Red & blue states moving in opposite directions.” “Some tightening…some loosening.” No. The story is the passage of voter suppression laws which are fundamentally anti-democratic.

—-cold truth happening now.
I diid covid antibody test today which was 163 U/ml. Anything greater than 0.8 is good. So my double dose vaccine still works after 5 months.
(Should be there right now.)
great news amk, and thank you.
Good West Coast morning Nerdy & TOD family. 🙋🏾♀️🥰
Sargent here: “Opinion: Joe Manchin’s new threat to destroy Biden’s agenda is worse than it seems”

Rest in power Michael K. Williams 🙏🏾😔🕊
Beautiful. Wendell gave Michael a bouquet of flowers right there 💖💔👏🏾🙏🏾
Michael K. Williams came and did what he was appointed to do on Earth. He has now received his Heavenly reward. Rest in peace, my brother.

And it’s why GOP pundits have resorted to gaslighting the public about this decision.”

imo, trouble is gop has on the brassy criminal skates, taking advantage every minute of our sweet faith
in the snailing cogs of the U.S. legal system. What we need is wildfire action that halts and reverses those countless trump moves towards a mafia state…that fit so well with gop plans.
