Millions of children are still ineligible of course to receive the vaccine.
So if it’s your prayer to go back to school. Parents are waking up to stories like this from the New York Times:

A Roman Catholic cardinal who was once a close ally of Pope Francis has gone on trial in the Vatican, accused of misusing Church funds in a ruinous London property venture.
Cardinal Angelo Becciu, 73, is the most senior cleric in modern times to face trial for alleged financial crimes.
He is charged with spending €350m (£299m; $412m) of church money on a botched deal to buy a property in Chelsea that incurred huge losses.
He denies wrongdoing.
Cardinal Becciu was sacked by the Pope in September, as reports of financial misdeeds emerged.
A two-year investigation exposed how the Vatican lost millions of euros, including donations from worshippers, after buying a former Harrods warehouse in Sloane Avenue, Chelsea, in 2014. The cardinal was formerly in charge of donations at the secretariat which handles Vatican funds.
The charges against him include allegedly channelling money to businesses run by his brothers in their native Sardinia.
Nine other defendants are also accused of crimes including extortion, embezzlement, money-laundering and abuse of office.

Police Officer testimony at the Select Committee hearing today was stunning, shocking, overwhelming, the reliving of that day on film beyond traumatic.
“Our democracy was preserved because of you.”
(Congressman Bennie Thompson to the four Officers)
Kinsinger very emotional in his remarks: “We are only here now because you guys were here.”
Officer Dunn: “It was a war that we fought that day.”
Officer Hodges explained that officers didn’t fire their guns because they thought doing so might be a signal for bombs to be set off.
“We did it for democracy.”
Officer Fanone: “The implements were most certainly weapons.”
Although guns were not fired, lethal weapons ncluded hockey sticks, american flags, wasp spray, bear spray, sledgehammers, pipes, railings, 4 by 4s, stun guns, speakers, sharpened pole, unknown chemical substances, pipe bombs. Officer Fanone said he was in full uniform and couldn’t be mistaken for anything other than a Police Officer.
–Congressman Raskin rightly called the insurrectionists fascist traitors to our country.
“”I’ve talked to officers who have done two tours in Iraq who said this was scarier to them than their time in combat,” Robert J. Contee III, the acting chief of Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department, said in January.” (npr)
Thank You Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, Capitol Police Officer Aquilino Gonell,
Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone, and Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges for your protection and service.
–And to all of the 140 officers were injured, to those who died, and all of their families.
This is not over. It will be on the books hundreds of years from now. There must be accountability and justice from the organizers, funders, planners, and those behind the curtain. A fascist terrorist attack on our Capitol must never happen again.

Also pointed out that the reason the terrorists didn’t hurt any members of Congress
was because (thanks to Police) they didn’t encounter any members of Congress.”
Officer Fanone:
“Too many are telling me that hell doesn’t exist or hell isn’t that bad.”
“No matter who was in office all I’ve cared about is protecting you and the public.”

American gymnast Simone Biles was praised for prioritising “mental wellness over all else” after pulling out of the Olympic women’s team final.
The head of the US Olympic team, many gymnasts, and other sportspeople were among those to praise Biles’ decision.
The 24-year-old withdrew from the event after her vault, saying: “I have to focus on my mental health.”
“You’ve made us so proud,” said Sarah Hirshland, chief executive of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
“We applaud your decision to prioritise your mental wellness over all else and offer you the full support and resources of our Team USA community as you navigate the journey ahead.”

It’s also refreshing how this bipartisan committee is conducting a uniformly respectful, informative, meaningful hearing, which would not have been the case if individuals like Rep. Jordan had been permitted to demean these proceedings. I thank Speaker Pelosi for that.
Today you saw the clearest difference between McCarthy’s GOP and the Democratic Party. McCarthy’s GOP led a protest to sympathize with the terrorists and coddle the cop-killers. While Democrats worked with reasonable Republicans to honor hero cops.
Ohio, help me with something: What has Jim Jordan actually done that made not only his district but the state of Ohio better? Again… not what he’s said, tweeted or whined about. I’m asking about what he’s actually ACCOMPLISHED for my home state. I’ll wait.

Well said. Everyone 'supports' mental health. That is, until someone says 'I need help'. That's when the knives/eye-rolling/character assassinations begin. Hopefully, she finds peace of mind through all this.
Here's the thing…she said she didn't know where she was in mid vault. If she had broke her leg bc of that we'd all be so proud the team won silver. But bc we can't see it, we deem it weakness… unacceptable
The argument last week was that the judges were marking her down because what she was doing was brilliant but dangerous, and they didn’t want others to try.
At that level you can not do it unless you are at your best and failure risks serious injury.
People don’t seem to understand this. They don’t get that there were 4 gymnasts on the team, so one gymnast was always out for each event. It was a smart move for the team.
I know the “I can’t wear a mask” pansies want to call her weak. This country sucks. They riot when their guy lost an election he spent all year preparing them that he’d loose.
BREAKING: Gwinnett County Public Schools announced Tuesday that it’s requiring masks for students, staff, and visitors to all school facilities and on school buses, regardless of vaccination status. https://t.co/B6eWpTYIXv
A little snark: 1) If you won’t wear a mask for 20 minutes in Walmart to protect kids who can’t get the vaccine, you would not have hid Anne Frank. Stop saying that! This is your real history hero moment. Step up.
2) Your friend from high school “who has done all the research and knows the truth about vaccines”, hasn’t and doesn’t. I have 2 degrees and 30 years of experience in medicine and I usually have to read these articles several times to make sure I understand them.
I’m an Arkansas ER physician. We are at the point warned about a year ago. There are no ICU beds in the state. 4 days ago we called 5 surrounding states looking for ICU beds and we were unsuccessful. (Thread)
In simple terms, because the critical care beds are full of ill Covid patients (who tend to have a slow recovery), there are no beds for the heart attacks, the major traumas, the septic patients…I could go all day.
A few facts: 1) The average delta variant positive person infects 6 people (compared to less than 3 with the original variant) 2) Almost all of the ill pneumonia patients we are seeing are unvaccinated (yes vaccinated people can get it but mostly with milder symptoms)
3) We are seeing a trend of severe disease in younger people
A few requests: 1) Wear a mask! It’s how most of us who spend all day with Covid patients coughing in our faces don’t get it. It’s worked for more than a year. It also keeps you from spreading it.
4) Get vaccinated! I obsessively love my family and I grabbed each of them by the ear to get their shot as soon as they were eligible. I would never hurt them.
Am I good enough? Yes, I am. The mantra I practice daily. @Simone_Biles, we are proud of you and we are rooting for you. Congratulations on the the silver medal, Team @USA! 🎊
A federal court has ordered that a rare ancient artefact, known as the Gilgamesh Dream Tablet, must be surrendered to authorities.
The 3,500-year-old tablet, from what is now Iraq, bears text from the Epic of Gilgamesh – one of the world’s oldest works of literature.
Officials say it was illegally imported before being purchased by the Christian-owned brand Hobby Lobby.
The rare item was bought to be put on display at the Museum of the Bible.
The Washington DC museum, chaired by the craft shop’s president, has been plagued by controversies involving its collection.
Officials said the tablet was purchased by a US antiquities dealer in 2003 in London, who then shipped it to the US without declaring the contents and sold it on with false documentation.
After changing hands several times, the tablet was eventually bought by Hobby Lobby from an auction house for more than $1.67m (£1.2m) in 2014.
Acting US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Jacquelyn M Kasulis, described the development as “an important milestone on the path to returning this rare and ancient masterpiece of world literature to its country of origin”.
Hobby Lobby consented to the forfeiture, officials said in a Tuesday statement.

It may only be me, but I love that the young women won silver w/out Simone. I want what is best for Simone & her mental health, of course. The team was under duress from her not participating and they rallied with each other and got that silver. Bravo to each one. They did that.

I keep thinking about the interview Simone Biles gave about choosing not to retire in part because having one of Larry Nassar’s victims on the Olympic roster would put more pressure on USA Gymnastics to actually do something to make the sport safer for younger athletes
And she’s right—if you have someone in her position in front of press, they have a clearer reason to ask about it, and she can bring it up if they don’t. Especially someone who has enough power to speak freely, which is not really anyone but her among active athletes. It’s a lot.
Someone asked me about it was mentioned Simone Biles being molested. I almost forgot it was the Olympic medical doctor that was jailed and the most recent UCLA medical doctor recently indicted.

So if it’s your prayer to go back to school. Parents are waking up to stories like this from the New York Times:
“31 children test positive for coronavirus at summer camp, all 31 children who tested positive are under the age of 12 making them too young to receive vaccines in the U.S.”
Murdoch, Fox News, Trump WH:
—Can we get millions of Americans to go after them for their deadly lies about COVID?
And if the Black folks in Fulton County ally this to happen without a fight, then…
*allow*
YES!
The invention of whiteness: the long history of a dangerous idea
“Before the 17th century, people did not think of themselves as belonging to something called the white race.
But once the idea was invented, it quickly began to reshape the modern world.”

P!nk being awesome!
Yes, she is!
Earlier today former Senator Barbara Boxer was assaulted in the Jack London Square neighborhood of Oakland. The assailant pushed her in the back, stole her cell phone and jumped in a waiting car. She is thankful that she was not seriously injured.”
Great to hear that Capitol Police Officers
will tell their stories at the Select Committee hearing tomorrow….so overdue.
Happened to strike up a long conversation with someone, well-educated and about to teach a couple of College courses, who turned out to have the most bizarre ideas especially about the Insurrection…even equated it
with peaceful George Floyd protests. So this idea that ‘everyone should be aggrieved regardless of party’ is not realistic. And how for example, can we reach more people with what the Officers say tomorrow?
—-may Capitol Officers open up and not hold back about their experiences.
and the fucking fourth estate will aid and abet them.

Being a white nationalist is not being a patriot. And getting your G.E.D. a few months before winning election to the House doesn’t give you the training or the experience to critique Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Oooops! 🤣🤣
come on dogs, the name itself is a give away.

At 17, I was rolling my eyes at my family, watching Star Trek reruns, and looking for the next party.

This whole thread is a “must read” 👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾🔥

Capitol Police Officer Fanone is testifying now

Why do the dems have a black man leading this enquiry? They couldn’t find a single white guy or woman to do this? How long the black people be cleaning up white peeps mess?
—-No more guns in any of the Capitols for civilians. The end.
(oops put an npr quote at the end of my comment above…to be clear the comment was not from npr!)
Congresswoman Murphy Rips McCarthy Name-Calling Jan. 6 Committee Rep
“Rep. Stephanie Murphy:
“It’s a shame that Kevin McCarthy has resorted to name calling to try to disparage his own members
and try to create a sideshow circus to detract from the very serious efforts this committee is making towards getting to the truth.”
At the Hearing today Congresswoman Murphy said that Police Officers were the last line of defense for herself and a colleague alone in the Capitol basement. Because of Police she got to hug her children again.
Dear wonderful Simone,
Being the best in the world must be an unimaginable gift and pressure.
We have no idea what happens to athletes at the Olympics. Please take care of your precious body and mind for now and the future. Thank you for all you have given all Americans.

That is so scary Pkayden. I always wanted to do drive to Florida someday. Stop along the way, take in some sights etc … but I sense that northern part of FL might not be too friendly to POC.
If I do ever get around to visiting FL again, I am just going to fly.
There really needs to be a federal database so that the a-hole prison guards, LEOs etc do not get employed in similar positions. They are due out tbis year … that’s not 12 years!
I pray the young man and his family stay safe.
Society is messed up.
Good. Just do it!

Signing all the way into WordPress (with a post) and give password etc, just as normal,

Susan Wright, the widow of Ron Wright who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, took first place in the special election. Republican state representative Jake Ellzey came in second and will face Wright in the runoff.[6] Governor Greg Abbott set July 27, 2021, as the special election runoff date.[7]

Queen Katie ruled!
She was fantastic, her team mate was impressive too. Came from behind to get past a couple of swimmers for the silver.
CBC commentators were saying that Katie Ledecky is a nice person (they said quite a bit about her) and that she does a lot of good, volunteering with kids and helping out with charities IIRC.
Hopefully they all devolve into cockroaches.
Hopefully they all devolve into cockroaches.

Someone asked me about it was mentioned Simone Biles being molested. I almost forgot it was the Olympic medical doctor that was jailed and the most recent UCLA medical doctor recently indicted.
Wow!
Take care of your mental health. It’s important.
There is some hope.
Rose and her teammates deserve more coverage
Biles pulls out of individual finals also. Good for her to put herself first.
