In 2 square miles there are about 75 very large kodiak brown bears.
Friend who stayed there said the bears were everywhere – because of the sockeye salmon runs in August. She was sharing trails and gravel roads with them to get around on foot, so you had to wait sometimes. Lots of Momma bears and cubs, but no fighting because they’re so contentedly full of fish and lolly-gagging in the river! The most fabulous largest bears are 700 or 800 pounds…fan of bears here!
