Hundred of thousands of Americans are dead because of trump’s failure, denial, decision not to act.
We know Dr. Fauci has saved countless lives.
Today’s global death toll from Covid-19 is 3,752,207 (worldometer)…in reality much more.
Maybe next, doom will try blaming the dead for his criminal neglect.

Activists Jane Fonda, Tara Houska, Battle Oil Pipeline:
      ‘This Is Theft Of Land’
“The Line 3 pipeline protest against the new pipeline,
which would carry oil across Minnesota’s environmentally sensitive tribal lands, is discussed by actor and activist Jane Fonda and activist Tara Houska, who joins The ReidOut live from the protest site.”

      • June 8, 2021 at 12:35 pm

        JANE FONDA:
”We are confronting a looming catastrophe.
Climate scientists are virtually unanimous that we have 9 years to cut our fossil fuel emissions in half,
in order to keep global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius.
No higher than that if we want to avoid catastrophe.
Even the conservative International Energy Association, that usually supports new fossil fuel development is saying No, this is it. We cannot, cannot do any more development.
No more drilling, fracking, or mining of new fossil fuels.
We can’t even burn what we have already developed, because we’re going in the wrong direction.
Fossil fuel emissions are rising and we have to cut them in half. Otherwise it`s a catastrophe.
Otherwise we’re compromising the future of our children and grandchildren
This pipeline would bring double the amount of tar sands oil from Canada, as Tara said,
across pristine land, under water that is very, very precious and pure headwaters of the Mississippi.
        It has to stop.
And President Biden has the power to do that.
Because the permit was given as the Trump lame duck administration was on its way out, and the proper environmental impact work wasn’t done.
They haven’t really studied the impact this would have on climate, the impact it would have on the water, and of course it flies in the face of environmental justice.
3 things the Biden administration has said that they are in favor of. He wants to be the climate president.
So he must, must call on the Army Corps of Engineers to pull the permit and take a second look at this.”

      • June 8, 2021 at 12:37 pm

        JOY REID:
“And Tara Houska, the indigenous people have paid the price over, and over, and over again for hundreds of years. To the United States deciding: ‘We want more land to put people on, we want more land to build pipelines on, we want more land for whatever we want it for’. And now can you just speak from your point of view of the affront of taking this pristine land and attempting to run YET ANOTHER oil pipeline through it. Given what we have just heard regarding the risks of climate change?”

        TARA HOUSKA:
“Defenders all over the globe led by indigenous people. We are 5 % of the population globally.
Native people. We’re holding 85 % of its biodiversity.
They’re coming for the LAST sacred places on Mother Earth.
And we are defending them. We’ve been defending them.
And more and more allies and folks of other walks of life recognize this is the one home that we have.
The one shared place we have. This is more than just an affront to climate science.
It`s an affront to future generations that have a right to live.
It`s an affront to tribal nations who have been here since before the United States.
It’s an affront to all of us who are no longer going to be treated as sacrifices. This is theft of land…and it’s time for a different time…new era of justice and equity.”

Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jen Psaki and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan,
    June 7, 2021

    National Security Advisor Mr. Sullivan:
“So, as you all know, this week President Biden will head off to Europe on the first foreign trip of his presidency — certainly not his first foreign trip, but the first one as President of the United States.
And the trip, at its core, will advance the fundamental thrust of Joe Biden’s foreign policy: to rally the world’s democracies to tackle the great challenges of our time.
We believe that President Biden goes on this trip from a position of strength:
dramatic progress against the pandemic at home; strong, projected growth that will help power the global economic recovery as well; renewed American power and purpose; and a rock-solid foundation of alliances that will serve as force multipliers for our global agenda.”

    Details: (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/press-briefings/2021/06/07/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-jen-psaki-and-national-security-advisor-jake-sullivan-june-7-2021/)

  24. June 8, 2021 at 1:11 pm

“Opinion: Joe Biden: My trip to Europe is about America rallying the world’s democracies”
“On Wednesday, I depart for Europe on the first foreign travel of my presidency.
It is a trip stacked with meetings with many of our closest democratic partners — including the Group of Seven nations, our NATO allies and the leadership of the European Union — before concluding by meeting with Vladimir Putin. In this moment of global uncertainty, as the world still grapples with a once-in-a-century pandemic, this trip is about realizing America’s renewed commitment to our allies and partners, and demonstrating the capacity of democracies to both meet the challenges and deter the threats of this new age.”

“Poll Shows Manchin Wildly Out Of Step With West Virginia Voters On Voting Rights Bill”
“Rachel Maddow shares details from a new poll that shows West Virginia voters of all political stripes are very supportive of the For The People Act to protect voting rights, which makes it all the more odd that Senator Joe Manchin, who represents West Virginia, does not.”

  26. June 8, 2021 at 1:26 pm

    “Brennan Center For Justice:
Congress Must Pass the ‘For the People Act’
SUMMARY: Bold legislation introduced in the House (H.R. 1) and Senate (S. 1) would ensure that our democracy works for everyone.”

“The right to vote is at the heart of effective self-government.
In the Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison laid down a standard for our democracy:
“Who are to be the electors of the federal representatives? Not the rich, more than the poor; not the learned, more than the ignorant; not the haughty heirs of distinguished names, more than the humble sons of obscurity and unpropitious fortune. The electors are to be the great body of the people of the United States.” footnote1_27g3u082 For over two centuries, we have worked to live up to that ideal, but have consistently fallen short. Many have struggled, and continue to struggle, for the franchise. The For the People Act would expand and protect this most fundamental right and bring voting into the 21st century.”

Joy Reid to Nancy McClean, American historian:

“And you talked about the Koch brothers.
There was a great piece in The New Yorker about how the Koch brothers have gone all out to stop this bill,
to stop the For the People Act. Not just because they don’t like voting rights – and you can explain to us why these super rich, mega rich don’t like people to vote – but they don’t like the end of Dark Money.
Dark money is in this bill too. Explain what these super rich people really want.”

    MACLEAN:
“What these super rich people really want is something so frightening,
that they understandably do not ask for it by name, but instead they have operated by stealth for years now.
Steadily rigging the rules of our democracy until we are at the point now where I think about it almost as a noose.
There are so many threads in the noose on our democracy now that it’s almost impossible to count them.”

    CongressmanJamaal Bowman
    to Joy Reid:

“Joe Manchin and others are no longer beholden their constituents.
They’re beholden to the Koch brothers.
They’re beholden to the Chamber of Commerce.
And they’re beholden to the wealthy elite overall who have control of our democracy.
THIS is why we can’t pass the $15 minimum wage.
THIS is why we can’T pass common sense gun control laws.
THIS is why we can’t pass common sense immigration reform.
We are not allowed to evolve into the multiracial democracy that we are,
because white supremacy has its tentacles around Congress
in the form of wealth inequality
and the wealthy elite controlling our Congress.”

    Speaker Pelosi:
Dear Colleague on Defending Our Democracy
    (excerpt)
“H.R. 1, the For The People Act, advanced by Congressman John Sarbanes and passed twice in the House, is awaiting action in the Senate. It is my hope that the passage of S. 1 will create a legacy for all of us who want to strengthen our democracy by:
Reducing the role of big, dark special interest money in politics
Stopping the voter suppression and protecting the vote of tens of millions of Americans
Ending political gerrymandering by establishing redistricting commissions.
Our mission is to amplify the voices of the grassroots, as they vote, advocate for policy and choose to run for office. H.R. 1/S. 1 must become law in order to respect the sanctity of the vote, which is the basis of our democracy.”

    “The ticking filibuster:
How to stop ‘minority rights’ from becoming ‘minority rule’”

“From March to June, Republican senators have relentlessly attacked the bill,
offering no meaningful alternative or narrower proposal. Democratic senators, meanwhile, heard input from Republican and Democratic officials throughout the country and prepared responsive changes. Yet, when many of those amendments came to a vote in committee, Republicans rejected them too.
Why? Because Republicans didn’t want to improve or narrow the bill; they wanted to kill it.
In response, Manchin pivoted to another bill.
Predictably, Republicans shot that down too.
Why compromise when you can insist on your own terms?
As Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) allegedly reported to constituents,
“We think we’ve got [Manchin] nailed down.”

The filibuster isn’t facilitating cooperation — it’s enabling minoritarian capture.

    Eh no more ‘negotiating’.
We didn’t need a crystal ball to see that GOPQ will never move…Monster McConnell keeps telling us. President Biden has to say ‘this is what the public wants’ on Infrastructure, let Dems go for the biggest possible package.

On AG Garland: Is he letting ‘bygones be bygones’ re: trump and barr? That is not acceptable.
As a former Republican, our new AG cannot give us more chills than we have. Am for giving him some time, but hardly any. We keep hoping some honest effer will finally come to the defense of the rule of law. The little russian made a mess of the DOJ and the US, but now he is a private citizen. Act now or…(the truth?)

    about AG Garland:

      Barbara McQuade to Rachel Maddow:
“Merrick Garland came into this job with a mission of restoring the independence of the Justice Department and a commitment to be nonpartisan in all of his decisions. But I think maybe he’s overcorrected.
He is reminding me of the Dad who coaches his own child in Little League and out of an abundance to show just how fair he is, benches his own kid even though he’s the best player.
Nobody notices how fair you are if you lose the game.”

Trump corruption of DOJ lingers under Merrick Garland; risks setting dangerous precedent

“Maddow reviews the abuse of the Department of Justice by Bill Barr in sacrificing justice to serve the political needs of Donald Trump, and notes that rather than cleaning the department with accountability for indulging that corruption, Attorney General Merrick Garland is apparently punishing none of it and even continuing some of it, risking a precedent that will surely be embraced by the next corrupt president.”
