This damage and destruction is NOT being caused by POC, but, you wouldn’t know it. So, step up and help the media tell the whole truth. Share and speak truth to power.
Hundreds of people gathered outside the Multnomah County Justice Center in downtown Portland on Tuesday evening. Some individuals were wearing helmets and carrying gas masks, umbrellas and backpacks. As the crowd chanted “burn the building down,” some people lit a dumpster on fire and pushed it up against the justice center while others vandalized the building with graffiti, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

“In June 2020, President Obama and My Brother’s Keeper Alliance challenged mayors and city leaders to amplify their communities’ calls for policing reform and accountability. More than 300 local jurisdictions have taken the Reimagining Policing Pledge to review and reform use-of-force policies and combat systemic racism within law enforcement. This report documents the pledge’s inspiration, shares highlights of the participating cities’ progress, and offers next steps for building on the momentum of the pledge.”

Nurturing the next generation of activists and community leaders includes investing in their education.

We know many students need funding to support their college education. NAACP has partnered with various businesses, including Dark & Lovely, Kering, and Vans, to provide undergraduate and graduate scholarships to college-bound students.

More than $800,000 is available across 10 grant programs for students who apply by June 18. We’re looking for exceptional students ready to make an impact in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), marketing, communications, the arts, and more.

    Applicants must:
Be a member of the NAACP. If you are not a member of the NAACP, join today.
Be African American or a person of color.
Be currently enrolled full-time or accepted to an accredited college or university in the U.S.
Be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate student, or graduate student.
Possess a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 system.
Demonstrate interest in a relevant field of study where applicable.

We know the expenses and debt accumulated during college can make it harder for Black graduates to securely step into their future. Let’s ensure equity in educational opportunity and prepare students for success in school, work, and life.

    “Exxon, Shell, and Chevron
suffer major setbacks as climate concerns cause power shift”

“Bill McKibben, a founder of the grassroots climate campaign 350.org,
talks with Rachel Maddow about three huge oil companies, Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch Shell, and Chevron Corp losing major climate change court cases or being forced by shareholders to address climate concerns.”

    Here: (https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/exxon-shell-and-chevron-suffer-major-setbacks-as-climate-concerns-cause-power-shift-113420869883)

    • May 27, 2021 at 1:31 pm

Rachel Maddow with the glad tidings:

“It’s been clear for a while now that the oil and gas industry, for all that it has done to shape the world over the past century, it in fact is about to get basically unwired.
And it’s because they’re the problem when it comes to climate.
And as stupid as our own domestic politics have been forever about climate, the climate disaster is a real thing that really does need a huge fix in the world – just figuring that out. And the oil and gas companies are going to have to fundamentally get out of the way or change themselves into an entirely new thing for that to happen.

      And that’s gonna happen.
In concept, in theory, we have known this was inevitable. It was going to HAVE to happen.
We didn’t know exactly what it would look like when it arrived, or when it would happen, or how gradual or how sudden it would be, but we just have been able to see in theory that this was coming.
And then today all of a sudden – Boom! It all just happened all at once.
Remarkable day and it’s still seen as sort of a business pages piece of news, but it’s more than that.”

    • May 27, 2021 at 1:36 pm

“First of all this morning at The Hague in the Netherlands a Dutch court issued a ruling,
a court order that requires the massive oil company Royal Dutch Shell – that’s the biggest oil company in the world outside of China. The court order is going to require that company to cut its emissions by 45% by the end of this decade. That’s their emissions, their suppliers’ emissions, their customers’ emissions. That means Royal Dutch Shell is going to need to stop being a burn fossil fuels company very, very quickly. Court order.

Then right after that. Boom! It happens to Chevron. This is also today. A shareholders meeting, an overwhelming vote by Chevron shareholders requiring Chevron to radically cut its emissions too.

And then boom! Another one all in the same day. A huge one. Exxon.
The flagship American oil and gas giant Exxon has led the way for so long in promoting climate denial and conspiracy theories. Exxon today against its will, had its shareholders dump some of its board of directors and install new ones who are going to make Exxon do a U-turn on climate. Including specifically its plans to keep expanding its drilling operations. That is not going to happen anymore because Exxon,
against its will, just got a whole new bunch of directors that it does not want.
That’s going to make that company change course.

And it all happened in the span of a few hours — Shell, Chevron, Exxon.”

  28. May 27, 2021 at 1:52 pm

Fact: EXXON knew in the mid-70’s that fossil fuels would melt the Arctic.
Fact: Their scientists predicted the fallout exactly. What punishment have they received for their Desecration?

Fossil Fuels = 74% of U.S. Greenhouse gas emissions.

“CO2 emissions accounted for about 80% of total U.S. anthropogenic GHG emissions…
Fossil fuel combustion (burning) for energy accounted for 74% of total U.S. GHG emissions
and for 92% of total U.S. anthropogenic CO2 emissions.’

I tell you what…my blood is boiling and my nerves are raw. My senator didn’t even show up for this 1/6 Commission vote. Didn’t find it important enough to even fucking show up.

  62. May 28, 2021 at 4:02 pm

    Senator Manchin:

“This commission passed the House with a bipartisan vote.
The failed vote in the Senate had six brave Republicans, but that was four short of the ten necessary to advance the legislation. Choosing to put politics and political elections above the health of our Democracy is unconscionable. And the betrayal of the oath we each take is something they will have to live with.
To the brave Capitol police officers who risk their lives every single day to keep us safe,
the Capitol and Congressional staff that work around the clock to keep Congress running, even the reporters who work hard to deliver Congressional news to the American people and every American who watched in horror as our Capitol was attacked on January 6th – you deserve better, and I am sorry that my Republican colleagues and friends let political fear prevent them from doing what they know in their hearts to be right.”

    (c/o politicus.usa)

  63. May 28, 2021 at 4:56 pm

Yesterday Chuck Rosenberg said about the 911 Commission,
that they eventually learned how the trouble started way back, noting that the partisan political divide in 2002
did not affect their teamwork in producing the report.

WE MUST KNOW completely the facts of what led to the Jan 6 Insurrection for the same critical reasons.

What and WHO were behind it ?
Cover up? Am concerned that the officials blocking a Jan 6 commission are part of that hidden history.

If we can’t get a commission to look into the worst attack in U.S. modern history, bipartisanship is well and truly dead. So you’re not fooling anyone if you hang on to that pretense. GOPQ continues to show its colors and its despotic strategy to get permanent power.

imo – there’s a short window and Democrats must take the reins asap.
