Video Of Deadly Arrest Of Ronald Greene
(per AP)
“Rachel Maddow shares newly public details on the brutal beating and tasering by police of Ronald Greene, who ultimately died in police custody. After police repeatedly resisted releasing body camera footage of the of the deadly arrest, the AP was able to obtain one such video, shedding new light on the circumstances surrounding Greene’s death.”
Two years ago the doctor examining Mr. Greene”s body
noted the two taser prongs hanging out of his back. He wrote “Does not add up.”
Louisiana Police claimed the victim died in a ‘car crash’ and have refused to release the trooper’s body cam. Officer is on audio bragging how he brutally beat Ronald Greene until he stopped breathing.
Lee Merritt, Attorney for the family of Ronald Greene, speaks to Rachel Maddow.
Maddow:
“But let me ask for you to respond to their assertion that the release of this tape is going to undermine ongoing investigative processes, that it will compromise any fair and impartial outcome of those investigations. Is there any risk of that?”
Merritt:
“No they’ve had this…opportunity to perform their investigation for 2 years,
without any real oversight from the public. As the system is designed, transparency is an essential part of the system where officers who taxpayers pay are held accountable to the constituency that they are supposed to serve. By releasing this video, it gives other members of the community an opportunity to identify the officers, to identify with the actions, to report other instances of abuses. We have found there are ample, from this particular troop…Louisiana, who have been notorious. The release of this video doesn’t compromise the investigation. It’s the first time the investigation is probably going to see an honest attempt at doing justice and it moves us a step closer to closure for this family.”
Maddow:
“Let me ask you about one aspect of this that is deeply and disturbingly reminiscent of the video footage of George Floyd’s death. Which of course lit up the world beyond just lighting up the country in outrage
over the way that he was killed. I didn’t show it at length.
We again are relying on what the Associated Press has released.
But what they describe and what these videotapes show, is apparently an incident that lasts more than NINE minutes. Where Mr. Greene is faced down, shackled, handcuffed, unattended and basically unresponsive. That’s part of what’s going on for the time that the officers are spending time wiping his blood off of themselves, and talking to each other about they hope that the he doesn’t have any infectious diseases given the amount of his blood that they are bathed in.
What should the officers have been doing during that 9 minute stretch of time?
If he was dying during that 9 minute stretch of time, what were the officers trained to be doing at that time?”
MERRITT:
“Hypothetically every officer within the Louisiana State Police Department knows and we’ve all learned on the national level from the Chauvin trial, that you can’t leave a suspect who has been injured the way Mr. Greene had been injured in a prone position.
They have him hog tied.
As you mentioned, his legs and his arms were shackled behind his back.
It’s impossible to breathe in that position,
given the repeated tasering that he has endured,
the brutal beatings about his head and body that he has endured.
And the mace that has already taken place.
And so they left him in a position where they have been trained to know that his ability to breathe is limited. And what they should have been doing, of course, is rendering emergency aid.
(Assuming that he suffered injuries in the ‘car accident’)….brutal assault.
They should have been giving him emergency aid for the vicious assault that they had just released
on him.”
Remarks by Vice President Harris
Before Meeting with Guatemalan Justice Sector Leaders
“As you may know, my background and most of my career I spent as an attorney fighting for justice and fighting against injustice. And this is a table of leaders who have fought for justice, who have fought against injustice — often at great peril to yourselves but in the interest of the greater good, in the interest of democratic values, and in the interest of all that we hold dear in terms of ensuring that we have a just society, that we fight corruption, that the individual does not experience injustice at the hands of its government.
And so, today, we have leaders from — from this background who have fought and have spent their entire careers fighting for justice in Guatemala. At this table are attorneys who have prosecuted drug traffickers and organized crime. At this table are judges who have advocated for an independent judiciary and the rule of law; leaders who have taken on corruption, who have taken on violence, and have worked to commit themselves to what must happen in terms of ensuring that there will be justice as it relates to all people in Guatemala.”
Mehdi Hasan to Chris Hayes.
“On the one hand as Congressman McGovern points out, it should have been a unanimous vote.
It should have been. In an ideal world, every member of Congress would want to investigate and attack on Congress. On the other hand as many have pointed out, it’s a provocative statement but it’s true, supporters of al-Qaeda would not have voted for the 9/11 Commission. So, why should we expect supporters of Donald Trump and promoters of insurrectionists to vote for an investigation into Donald Trump and insurrectionists?
And unfortunately that’s what the Republican Party is now.
Just look at them across the board.
Look at Andrew Clyde of Georgia, who on the day of the attack was barricading the door inside the House.
And today now, goes into the House and does hearings where he says it was ‘a normal tourist visit’. Someone like that is never going to vote for an investigation. Of course, he’s not.”
Hayes:
“You know, someone who’s been absent from this and has not weighed in,
is Mike Pence of the ‘Hang Mike Pence’ chant. He was the person that the crowd was referring to when they said they wanted to hang him. They wanted to execute him in public. And again I think there’s this sense on the part of a lot of republicans that…they didn’t mean it…’they didn’t carried off so like, who cares?’ But he’s been noticeably absent. I do know however, his own brother voted against the commission today which says a lot about the Republican Party.”
Hasan:
“It says a lot on the Republican Party. Probably also says a lot about the Pence family.
But yes, he has been awol. He’s given a few speeches, but hasn’t said anything about Donald Trump, all the people who chanted for his death. On my show Chris, on your show too, I’m sure you have played that image many times of him with his family, wife, and daughter, fleeing from that chamber! It’s on tape. It was played at the impeachment trial. We should never forget that even if Mike Pence wants to forget it.
But look Chris at some point, you have to stop saying ‘What’s Kevin McCarthy doing?’
‘What’s Mitch McConnell doing?’
‘What’s Mike Pence doing?’
You have to ask the question ‘What are the Democrats doing?’
The Republicans are the Republicans.
We expect no better from the people who held 33 hearings into Benghazi over two and a half years, made Hillary Clinton testify for 11 hours. We expect nothing from that party! But what are the Democrats doing? I mean, the Congressman (in the previous interview) just ended his interview with you saying, ‘I hope this is going to be bipartisan – after everything he said!
Look, banish the B word from your vocabulary. There is no bipartisanship with a party that does not believe in democracy and that is willing to run interference for domestic terrorists.
Sorry. There is no bipartisanship!”
Hasan:
“But so many liberals…just outraged over Benghazi. And my point is, why not learn from that? Why don’t Democrats do this? Instead of complaining about how republicans did this, what are YOU doing?
Imagine if it had been Black Lives Matter that stormed the Capitol on January 6th
to prevent the seating of Trump voters.
You think republicans would have ‘moved on’ four months after?
You think republicans would be trying to do a bipartisan deal over that?”
Many Dems now saying please stop wasting time on the party formerly known as the gop,
famously known for dragging it out, watering it down, then voting No.
McCarthy got everything he asked for and walked away.
Rep. Jim McGovern to Chris Hayes:
“Kevin McCarthy got basically everything he wanted.
I mean he sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi talking about his demands including an equal representation of Democrats and Republicans on the commission. He got it. He got everything. And yet he walked away.
So he’s either a worse negotiator than Donald Trump getting everything he wants and then walking away, or he’s
a coward. He’s afraid of Donald Trump. Donald Trump does not want the truth to be known, does not want this Commission to move forward.
And what was really also frustrating about today’s vote…this should have been a unanimous vote…Kevin McCarthy didn’t even have the guts to come on the House floor and defend his position. I don’t know where the hell he was, maybe hiding under his desk, maybe talking to Donald Trump who’s in exile in Mar-a-Lago. But he didn’t even have the guts or the decency to explain to the American people WHY he’s not interested in them knowing what actually happened on January 6th.”
Rep. McGovern:
“People want to know the truth.
And we want it to be done in a way that is bipartisan, similar to what we did with the 9/11 Commission.
So we presented that and Kevin McCarthy couldn’t take YES for an answer. I mean it is really quite sad. And I don’t quite know what Donald Trump has on him. But clearly Kevin McCarthy is afraid to death of Donald Trump. And that’s pathetic.”
“And if we have to proceed through a Special Select Committee, we’ll have to go that way.
But the American people deserve the truth.
I mean, I was there on January 6th.
I was the last person off the House floor. I was presiding when that attack came.
And I walked down into the speaker’s lobby, and I saw this angry mob of homegrown fascists,
you know, banging and breaking the glass trying to get at us.
I mean people walking around the Capitol with Confederate flags,
with anti-Semitic shirts that say Camp Auschwitz.
I mean this is the group that attacked our democracy!”
“To have some members try to say that nothing really happened that day is insulting and disrespectful…
to our staff, to the people who work up here, from the cafeteria workers to the Capitol Police. It’s insulting to the American people who expect us to respect our democratic institutions and to respect elections.”
I think Joey B did a good job on that issue! Luckily, the diplomacy was behind the scenes, as it should be. The overarching situation unfortunately carries on, but the current devastation – especially the fact so many children lost their precious lives – is slowed down for now.

Trump Backers Are Using ‘Audit’ Excuse To Discredit Elections
“Rachel Maddow looks at different places around the United States where Donald Trump supporters, inspired by the ballot inspection spectacle in Arizona, are using conspiracy theories to insist on more ‘audits’ of the 2020 election results Trump lost, and the growing realization that these Trump supporters are not interested in election integrity so much as sabotaging the credibility of any election that doesn’t produce their desired outcome.”
“Arizona secretary of state may not let Maricopa County reuse voting machines after audit”
“Hobbs wrote that if the county tries to use the machines again, even if it performs a full analysis in an attempt to determine whether the machines were still safe to use,
her office would “consider decertification proceedings.”
In Arizona, voting systems must be certified to be used in elections.”

—-Finding small republican communities and then trumping up the outcry…who is funding it?
Stacey Abrams (Founder Fair Fight Action)
telling Lawrence O’Donnell:
“We have to be both prophylactic with this but we also have to respond to and neutralize the bad bills that are passing at breakneck pace right now in Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Texas, and now being introduced and moving with speed in Ohio and Michigan.
We need the voting rights provisions that are embedded in the For the People Act as well as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Separately they each do something important, but together they actually protect our democracy. But standing alone, it is insufficient to meet the insurrection that has never stopped, which started on January 6, continues to reverberate. And we need both of those laws, both of those actions, to protect the right to vote and to protect our democracy.”
Abrams:
“Part of the effectiveness of voter suppression is that it doesn’t aim at a single target. It tries to dismantle or weaken the entirety of the system…
On the other side republicans have said to themselves ‘we may not like the outcome
so we’re going to wrest away the power that we have invested in our election workers, people who are putting their time and their talent and their lives on the line sometimes, and we’re going to say they can be overturned by the acts of state legislators who don’t like the outcome’.
When you do that what you’re saying is it’s not worth knowing what the outcome will be,
because they’re going to rig the outcome that they want.”
Abrams:
“…and because they’re also trying to weaken access to the courts, we don’t know the full extent of the power they have given to themselves. But we know enough based on what we see happening in Arizona, what happened in Georgia, what the (former) president of the United States tried to do across this country 70 times. We know that it is not going to be good for America and certainly not good for voters and it is
not good for democracy.”
O’Donnell:
“And so much of this new legislation that’s being written by republican state legislatures is aimed at the courts. It’s aimed at trying to control the outcome and minimize the court’s ability in certain situations.
That seems also like a very, very troubling aspect of this.
It’s what happens AFTER the votes are cast.”
Abrams:
“This is a coordinated attack on our democracy by Heritage Action, by the Republican National Committee, by the Big Lie and all these purveyors, and this is their next attempt to undermine our democracy.
And so yes they’re going after the voters, they’re going after the process, and they’re going after the remedy. Because when you get through the entire gauntlet if the last vestige of support for democracy
are our courts – they’re going to try to take power away there.”
Abrams:
“We cannot afford to be distracted by one or two or three attacks.
We’ve got to realize that this is a fuselage and they are attacking EVERY vestige of the system because they want the entire thing to either be so broken that we no longer expect success to be there for voters.
Or that we are so overwhelmed that we can’t focus on the challenges before us.
That’s why there are more than 400 bills in 47 states.
That’s why they’re refusing to take federal action. Because they know if we can actually focus our attention on protection for our democracy, they may lose an election. I can tell you it’s not a fatal thing to lose an election, but it is dangerous to America to lose our democracy.”

Lakota couple sues after secretary cuts daughters’ hair without permission
by Kevin Abourezk
“A Rosebud Lakota couple is suing a school in northern Nebraska after a secretary at the school allegedly cut their daughters’ hair without permission from the two Native mothers, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.
The ACLU of Nebraska filed the lawsuit on behalf of Alice Johnson and Norma LeRoy before the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska.
“On March 9, 2020, Johnson, LeRoy and Lakota elders attended the Cody-Kilgore School District’s Board of Education meeting. They asked the school to return the girls’ hair in order for them to be properly dispose of the hair according to their Lakota customs.”
“For many Native Americans across various tribes, including the Lakota,
hair is regarded as an extension of their physical being and can symbolize mourning,”
the lawsuit states.
“(The two girls) have been taught traditional Lakota beliefs and practices by Alice and Norma since they were very young. These teachings have included the belief that their hair should be kept long as a sacred symbol of their own life and cut only under specific circumstances such as after the death of a loved one.”
Days of ’76 includes Native focus
“The annual event began in 1924 to feature Deadwood’s history. It tells how gold seekers and their followers founded the northern Black Hills mining town in 1876. Thousands of people rushed in here during the 1875 Deadwood Gulch stampede when prospectors hit pay dirt.
These settlers named their camp Deadwood after the dead trees in the gulch.”
“In the future, Deadwood hopes to host a powwow during the week of Days of ’76, giving participants heightened opportunities for immersion in Black Hills history and culture, according to Mayor David R. Ruth Jr.
“It’s important to understand, especially for visitors, that Deadwood is very supportive of the Lakota people.”

Session yields mixed results for Native lawmakers
by Amanda Eggert
“Democratic lawmakers from Montana’s American Indian Caucus entered the 2021 legislative session with the numbers stacked against them. Minorities within a minority party, Native American lawmakers often found themselves trying to snuff measures seeking to restrict voting access,
limit the presence of wild bison on Montana lands, and rework public assistance programming.
But there were successes, too.
Native American lawmakers passed legislation to support Indigenous language education, and funding to address the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people was again approved by the Legislature and the governor. The caucus also found success working together on issues and presenting a unified message on social and natural resource issues.”

They should have been giving him emergency aid for the vicious assault that they had just released
on him.”
MY God…MY God…Why have you foresaken us….
This brutal beating and torture happened 2YEARS AGO…The Higher UPs saw this video…this was not hidden from them…yet nothing was done…NOTHING

The House approves Jan 6 Commission bill.
“If Minority Leader McCarthy wants to be maskless on the Floor of the House of Representatives,
he should get to work vaccinating his Members.”
(Speaker Pelosi Spokesman Hammil: https://www.speaker.gov/newsroom/51921-0)

And goodnight, TODville and all the ships at sea!
Yet another verbal diarrhoea from the traitorous thug to clean up.
At White House Summit,
South Korea’s Moon Will Make A Push For North Korea Peace
“Last month, Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga was the first to meet with President Biden in Washington.
On Friday, South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in will be the second.
For President Biden, these visits are a first step toward his pledge to repair alliances that some felt were discounted during the Trump administration. It’s also a chance to team up with fellow democracies to fend off challenges from autocratic states.”

Good Morning! It’s a good day to welcome Secretary Pete to Atlanta!
Speaker Pelosi:
(from) Remarks at Photo Opportunity with His Excellency Moon Jae-in,
President of the Republic of Korea
“Again, we welcome you.
We look forward to hearing what you have to say about security, in terms of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula; about how we can work together on the climate issue, and thank you for your extraordinary leadership in that regard; our cooperation to fight the pandemic; and, again, in so many ways, to benefit from Korea’s being in the forefront of innovation as we go forward to make the future better for the people of the world, particularly how we work together for our two countries.”
Speaker Pelosi:
Statement on Israel-Hamas Ceasefire
“The announced ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is welcome news, and we thank the Biden Administration for its extensive engagement and diplomacy.
“America remains committed to supporting the security of Israel, our friend and ally.
We believe it is critical for the security of Israel for Israelis and Palestinians to both be able to live in peace.”
“Now, with this essential ceasefire, it is incumbent upon leaders in the region to respect Israeli and Palestinian lives and strive for a lasting peace.”

Congressman Hakeem Jeffries: “We met never let the cult win.”
“We must never let the cult win.”
It’s illegal to touch ballots for 22 months after an election.
That’s my understanding.
How the hell is the anti-democratic, anti-election gop audit fakery allowed at all?
Never mind spread across the country.
“Inspired by Arizona recount, Trump loyalists push to revisit election results in communities around the country”
“Behind the scenes, a loose network of lawyers,
self-styled election experts and political groups is bolstering community efforts by demanding audits,
filing lawsuits and pushing unsubstantiated claims that residents are echoing in public meetings.”

COMPLAINT (42 U.S.C. §1983)
