Hello y’all! A dreary day here. Lightening, thunder, storms. We’ve had three bad rounds since early morning. Think it is settling down and may be moving on. I’m so sleepy. I seldom nap during the day, but I actually laid down under a blanket and slept for a bit.

Saw some good news from our crazy TN legislature. Correction, waaaay beyond crazy. Anyway, the bill to make it legal to run over protesters is dead for this year. Just typing that makes me shiver in disbelief and disgust. I know some states passed it already. Thankful we made it through this session without that one being added.

Thanks for new thread, NW. 🙂

Happy to hear you’re OK thru these storms! They passed quickly thru my area, I was braced for havoc. But nothing much. Thanks be.🙏

These awful deplorables are mighty busy! Let’s keep our eyes on the prize every single second! 👀

Donald Trump’s ban from Facebook and Instagram has been upheld by Facebook’s Oversight Board.

But it criticised the permanent nature of the ban as beyond the scope of Facebook’s normal penalties.

It has ordered Facebook to review the decision and “justify a proportionate response” that is applied to everyone, including ordinary users.

The former president was banned from both sites in January following the Capitol Hill riots.

The Oversight Board said the initial decision to permanently suspend Mr Trump was “indeterminate and standardless”, and that the correct response should be “consistent with the rules that are applied to other users of its platform”.

The ruling means that Mr Trump’s suspension remains in place for now.

The Board said Facebook must respond within six months.

If this lying corrupt pos of thug had been held the same ‘standards as other users’, he would have been banned permanently long time back. What a weaselly board.

    • May 5, 2021 at 11:32 am

If The Board, which I understand mostly lives elsewhere and were’t subjected to Trump or his violent mob, want to see more of same and the end of democracy….then we’ll be at their esteemed mercy on a loop.

    1619 Project And Transgender Rights”
“Republicans have made attacks on transgender youth in athletics a part of their culture war, along with the 1619 Project. Joy talks to Nikole Hannah-Jones and Charlotte Clymer”.

The Anti-Trans bill failed in Texas. Gianforte has not yet signed it in MT.
(The D.O.J. is on the move.)
What happened about the bills that punish parents for helping their children? Also doctors.

Caitlyn Jenner is cow-towing to the right to get elected, kissing up to Christian Right, she is not for trans equality.
And the right may use her to make their case. As one trans woman told me: “They still they she is an……….”
The trans community finds Jenner to be a threat and predicts that suicides will ensue if she keeps on that path.
The more you mistreat young people, the more suicides. It is so, so hard being trans. The trans community saying she’s a threat to them and ‘suicides will ensue’. The more you mistreat young people, the more you risk suicide.

  19. May 5, 2021 at 12:13 pm

President Biden is empowering trans and LGBTQ Americans:

“After promoting his proposed American Jobs Plan, American Families Plan, police reform, and other measures, he said, “I also hope Congress can get to my desk the Equality Act to protect the rights of LGBTQ Americans.”
“To all the transgender Americans watching at home — especially the young people who are so brave —
I want you to know that your president has your back.”

    Remarks by President Biden
on the COVID-19 Response and the Vaccination Program

“Our new phase will focus on three areas.
First, kids, children between the ages of 12 and 15 years of age. They are not yet eligible for a vaccine.
The FDA’s scientists are currently reviewing the data to decide if — if and when to authorize that age range for vaccinations. The FDA — and the FDA alone — will make that decision.

But today, I want American parents to know that if that announcement comes, we are ready to move immediately –immediately move to make about 20,000 pharmacy sites across the country ready to vaccinate those adolescents as soon as the FDA grants it’s okay.

Now, most Americans have a vaccination site about as close as their house is near to a neighborhood school. We’re also going to slip [sic] vaccines directly to pediatricians — ship them to pediatricians during the following weeks. So parents and their children can talk to their family doctor about it and get the shot from a provider they trust the most — easy, fast, and free.

And if teens are on the move this summer, they can get their first shot in one place and the second shot elsewhere. We know that adolescents are at risk from COVID-19. Though serious illness at that age range is rare, they can still get sick and spread the virus to others.

So, my hope is that if the vaccine is authorized, parents will take advantage of it and get their kids vaccinated.”

“Rachel Maddow looks at former Attorney General Bill Barr’s record of lying about the Mueller report,

“PHOENIX — The U.S. Department of Justice expressed concern Wednesday about ballot security and potential voter intimidation arising from the Republican-controlled Arizona Senate’s unprecedented private recount of the 2020 presidential election results in Maricopa County.
In a letter to GOP Senate President Karen Fann, the head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division said the Senate’s farming out of 2.1 million ballots from the state’s most populous county to a contractor may run afoul of federal law requiring ballots to remain in the control of elections officials for 22 months.
And Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Pamela S. Karlan said that the Senate contractor’s plans to directly contact voters could amount to illegal voter intimidation.”

waive intellectual property protections for coronavirus vaccines,
with liberals framing it as a necessary bid to speed the shots to billions in the developing world,
while the drug industry warned of devastating effects to vaccine production.

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai said the United States will now move forward with international discussions to waive the protections for the duration of the pandemic. U.S. officials helped block a World Trade Organization proposal that was introduced last year to stop enforcing patents for coronavirus-related medical products. Dozens of developing countries have pushed for the proposal, arguing that it would allow them to rapidly produce their own generic vaccines, rather than wait months or years for sufficient doses.”

    Remarks by President Biden
on the COVID-19 Response and the Vaccination Program
    (excerpt, May 4th)

“And as we stand here today, almost 150 million Americans have gotten at least one shot.
Over 105 million Americans are fully vaccinated. And among our most vulnerable population — seniors — we are nearing 85 percent of those who have gotten their first shot. Seventy percent of the seniors are now fully vaccinated. It’s a dramatic turnaround from where we were in January, when less than 2 percent of adults and less than 1 percent of seniors were fully vaccinated.

Not only that, cases are down in 40 states these past two weeks. Deaths are down dramatically since January — down over 80 percent among seniors, which includes a drop among Hispanics of 80 percent and among African Americans of 70 percent of seniors.

There are tens of thousands of Americans alive today because — who would not be alive otherwise were they not — had access to rapid vaccination program. Moms and dads, sisters and brothers, grandparents, neighbors, old friends — they’re around now, and God — thank God for that.

Now, where do we go from here?”

    • May 6, 2021 at 1:07 pm

      President Biden:
“We’re going to make it easier than ever to get vaccinated.
Visit vaccines.gov — or text your ZIP Code to: 438829. Walk into your local pharmacy without an appointment. Go to the doctor or a local health clinic. It’s free. It’s nearby. Every adult is eligible. You know, go get the shot as soon as you can.”

“Biden, the World Needs Your Help to End the Pandemic”

“Last July, during the presidential campaign, Joe Biden promised the universal health care advocate Ady Barkan that he wouldn’t let intellectual property laws stand in the way of worldwide access to coronavirus vaccines.

“The World Health Organization is leading an unprecedented global effort to promote international cooperation in the search for Covid-19 treatments and vaccines,” said Barkan.
“But Donald Trump has refused to join that effort,
cutting America off from the rest of the world.
If the U.S. discovers a vaccine first, will you commit to sharing that technology with other countries,
and will you ensure there are no patents to stand in the way of other countries and companies mass-producing those lifesaving vaccines?”

Biden was unequivocal. “It lacks any human dignity, what we’re doing,” he said of Trump’s vaccine isolationism. “So the answer is yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. And it’s not only a good thing to do, it’s overwhelmingly in our interest to do.” (NYT, April 23rd)
