President Obama has responded in a tweet to the loss of Bernie Wong, “whose legacy of community leadership inspired me and so many others”.

    Chicago Sun-Times:
“Bernarda “Bernie” Wong built the Chinese American Service League from nothing into one of the city’s most important social service organizations by enlisting support from a long line of political and civic leaders who learned she wouldn’t take no for an answer when it came to helping her community.”

Ms. Wong died on Tuesday. Information about her funeral service is below:

This month we had election for four state govts. (one of the main reasons for the 2nd deadly covid wave). Despite modi’s and his own carl rovesque henchman’s venomous and violent tactics including bribing/threatening members of opposition parties to defect, beating up the voters , the thug regime barely held on to power in one small state and got their asses whipped by the strong regional parties in other three states despite a partisan election commission’s desperate attempts to kneecap the opposition parties. I am very proud that my state especially gave the biggest asskicking to bjp by giving them zero, zilch, nada seats (per exit polls).

Our courts are more on the peoples’ side than the thug modi central govt and his minions led state govts.

    https://www.rediff.com/news/report/no-action-on-citizens-seeking-covid-help-online-sc/20210430.htm

Terming the second wave of COVID-19 as a “national crisis”, the Supreme Court on Friday warned authorities, from the Centre down to police chiefs, against silencing people and their pleas for help on the presumption that they are raising false grievances on the internet.

The top court made clear that any attempt to clampdown on free flow of information on social media including the call for help from people would be treated as the contempt of court.

“There should be free flow of information, we should hear voices of citizens,” said a bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud, and asked the Centre, states and all DGPs not to take any action against anyone who is posting messages on social media about issues like shortage of oxygen, beds or doctors as spreading rumour.

“If any action is taken against such posts by citizens in distress, we will treat it as contempt of the court,” said the bench which also comprised Justices L Nageswara Rao and S Ravindra Bhat.

The observations assume significance in view the recent decision of the Uttar Pradesh administration to prosecute people under the National Security Act for allegedly raising false alarms on social media.

The hearing before the top court on the suo motu case for devising national policy for COVID-19 management is underway.

    Morning everyone..

Really, Joe Biden is the only one who was/is experienced enough in all aspects of governing, and wise enough to select a brilliant VP as he did in choosing Kamala Harris; all his staff are qualified (imagine) and suited to their posts..

I feel pretty sure they will find a way through all this, and may the gop rot in the dung heap of their own deceit.

That’s all I have to say for now.

Big hugs all around, thank you NW, thank you everyone!

Press Gaggle by Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre
Aboard Air Force One En Route Plains, GA
    (excerpt)

    MS. JEAN-PIERRE:
“Hey, everybody. Happy 100 Days. I’m going to start with something at the top here for folks.
The key components of the American Families Plan that the President unveiled last night are incredibly popular because they deliver for the American people. Fifty-eight percent of Americans support universal pre-K. Fifty-eight percent also support expanding Affordable Care Act subsidies for low- and middle-income Americans to buy health insurance.

Seventy-three percent of Americans, including sixty percent of Republicans, support expanding access to childcare for working families. Seventy-five percent of Americans, including sixty-four percent of Republicans, support ensuring all workers have access to paid leave. And 62 percent support an extension of the Child Tax Credit expansion.

And the President’s proposals for paying for these investments are also widely supported by the public.
Sixty-nine percent of Americans support raising taxes on the wealthy. Sixty-four percent agree that they — that the very rich should contribute an extra share of wealth each year to support public programs. Fifty-nine percent of respondents, including sixty-six percent of independents and sixty-eight percent of Republicans, opposes gas taxes. And 86 percent of respondents supported increasing — increased IRS enforcement, including 84 percent of Republicans.

The American Families Plan is a combination of popular public investments, pop- — and popular ways to pay for them. It’s no surprise that the plan already has bipartisan support among the American people.”

    President Biden on Wednesday:
“We have to prove democracy still works — that our government still works and we can deliver for our people.”

“Opening doors of opportunity, guaranteeing some more fairness and justice — that’s the essence of America. That’s democracy in action.

Our Constitution opens with the words — as trite as it sounds — “We the People”.
Well, it’s time to remember that “We the People” are the government — you and I. Not some force in a distant capital. Not some powerful force that we have no control over. It’s us. It’s “We the People.”

    The American Jobs Bill

“Well, ultimately a climate bill, the kind of climate bill that Joe Biden is proposing,
is going to be the greatest blue-collar job creation engine in our country in two generations.
Carpenters, electricians, roofers, that is who will be installing the solar.
THAT is who will be installing the wind.
That is who will be making the all-electric vehicles, the plug-in hybrids, the battery storage technologies.
We having every building across our country to the highest possible energy standards. All blue-collar workers.
And so ultimately Joe Biden is right on message.
This is what it`s all about.
And just like all the rest of his economic plan,
he`s targeting it, not at the rich,
but at those who have suffered in our society,
wondering whether or not there`s going to be a brighter future for them.
And the climate bill that Joe Biden is proposing is that job creation engine.”
(Senator Ed Markey to Lawrence O’Donnell)

Those that chose to label President Biden, knew / know that Joe Biden is not senile, nor is he ‘sleepy’. IMO they knew what he was capable of and felt need to take him down. Their problem is that he is far and above them when it comes to intelligence, and governing skill. On top of that he is a real person, kind, compassionate, genuine, and cares deeply for all.

    Speaker Pelosi Weekly Press Conference
    “Last night was historic.
It was the first time two women – the Vice President of the United States and the Speaker of the House – sat behind the President as he delivered his address to the nation.
It sends the message to girls and women that beyond the sky’s the limit.
We would say ‘the sky’s the limit’ years ago, but now with the technology that we see, it’s – there is no limit.
The President’s speech reflected that message.”
