India Covid: Anger as Twitter ordered to remove critical virus posts.
Thousands across India are outraged after the government ordered social media platform Twitter to remove posts critical of its handling of the virus.
A Twitter spokesperson confirmed it had blocked some material from being viewed in India.
The country faces a massive surge in cases, with many of its hospitals facing an oxygen shortage.
One Twitter user accused the government of “finding it easier to take down tweets than ensure oxygen supplies”.
India recorded 352,991 new infections on Monday and 2,812 deaths – the highest single-day spike so far.
The government made an emergency order to censor the tweets, Twitter revealed on Lumen, a database that keeps track of global government orders around online content.
Twitter did not specify which content it had taken down but media reports say it includes a tweet from a politician in West Bengal holding Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly responsible for Covid deaths, and from an actor criticising Mr Modi for holding political rallies while the virus raged.

As we were desperate in getting a vaccine early on and will over 200 million shots given in the U.S., we are hearing about “break through” cases of people getting Covid. With the CDC being open and honest about it, people here are now reluctant in getting a vaccine. I think we just make these companies go into full scale manufacture to vaccinate vaccines as well as the treatments to its available to everyone.
I saw a tweet last night stating that the Trump administration passed something that keeps the US from sharing any vaccine. There was a screen shot of the wording. In the replies, people were asking how Biden can get around it. I have no idea who tweeted it. Anyone want to do some research?

India Covid: Anger as Twitter ordered to remove critical virus posts.
Thousands across India are outraged after the government ordered social media platform Twitter to remove posts critical of its handling of the virus.
A Twitter spokesperson confirmed it had blocked some material from being viewed in India.
The country faces a massive surge in cases, with many of its hospitals facing an oxygen shortage.
One Twitter user accused the government of “finding it easier to take down tweets than ensure oxygen supplies”.
India recorded 352,991 new infections on Monday and 2,812 deaths – the highest single-day spike so far.
The government made an emergency order to censor the tweets, Twitter revealed on Lumen, a database that keeps track of global government orders around online content.
Twitter did not specify which content it had taken down but media reports say it includes a tweet from a politician in West Bengal holding Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly responsible for Covid deaths, and from an actor criticising Mr Modi for holding political rallies while the virus raged.

Our state courts are taking our central election commission, another constitutionally mandated independent org, for spreading the covid by conducting elections in an unsafe manner and with widely staggered dates. Before modi, our CEC used to have honest nonpartisan non-corrupt people as election commissioners. Fukcing modi and his gang have politicized and poisoned our once respected CEC.
The Madras high court on Monday castigated the Election Commission over the COVID-19 second wave in the country, holding it ‘singularly’ responsible for the spread, called it the “the most irresponsible institution” and even said its officials may be booked under murder charges.
The EC allowing political parties to take out rallies and meetings had led to the spread of the pandemic,the court said.
