This day went too quickly! Personally tried to rest my brain from all the news coverage – and trial coverage – of this past week. But I also feel I must be a “witness to history,” like everybody else, so I’ll be watching again starting Monday.

Oh gosh, oh dear, I’m glad to hear this, but it confirms some of the problems I’m having lately with my tired little old iPhone7, guess it’s nearing the end of its life.. sigh.. I so don’t want to buy another phone.. reality check, eh? Love you, Dudette!

Yeh, phones are ridiculously expensive. I’d really rather be doing anything else with my pennies than paying for them. I avoid upgrading until not doing it is just too painful to go on. These days I’m hanging on to my iPhone 8 by my fingernails. I’m guessing I’ll have to bite the bullet in the fall. Ugh.

    Good morning all,

JO’B, this is wise and important, to know when to take a break, we’ve seen so much of the same shit since we were still in high school, too many here from before that even! Thanks Richard “I am not a crook” Nixon..

Anyway, this week my daughter sent me the Wonder Woman movie which I hadn’t seen, and it has been a great relief, given me lots to think about.. so, for a real escape, I’d recommend it, even if you’ve already seen it!!

Big hugs all around.. Light is coming, anchor in It, stay whole, take care of yourselves and each other..

    GM TOD…

Nerdy i have enjoyed s much all the entry videos of FL Michelle Obama..it is like a balm for my soul…a steadying force…

i have had to take a break from watching the coverage..although i do read things here and on Twitter…i find myself skipping the videos of the killings of my people by police…how many times does someone have to see the videos…i can’t watch it …even once…

    I do have a question for all…

AMK mentioned in an earlier post of how the underlings will be held accountable for the insurrections…but not the instigators….i hope that changes..

it just seems that the Republican Legislators who voted to overturn the election should pay a penalty…but there is no mechanism available for that…how do we change that…can we change that…is there even the will on the part of the legislators to do so..

if folks here know everyday republicans …what do they say about the insurrection…do they think that it is OK to overthrow the election….

  12. April 18, 2021 at 12:44 pm

Thank you, NW. Always love Michelle interviews! 💞

On another note. Why do these mass killers always look like characters from “Deliverance”? 😠😷 Rhetorical question. 😣😷

White kids were killed in Newtown CT. 6yr olds, teachers, FL almost ALL the school mass murders are in mostly white kids. Republicans don’t care! When that Senator was shot at baseball practice…Rethugs didn’t care. When NRA is no more and they can’t donate or lobby, then maybe.

“Ninety-two senators voted last week to advance an Asian American hate crimes bill.
But its passage likely depends on Democrats agreeing to soften language that Republicans say ties hate crimes too narrowly to the characterization of COVID-19 as the “China virus.””

to say whatever fake/vile thing about China (or whoever). Even when president.
Trump fanned the flames of violence against our Asian community & data clearly shows it. If the bill is linked to Trump rhetoric, that’s why. Action, fruits of action….

“The rapid rise and fall of the misguided ‘America First Caucus'”
“A group of right-wing House Republicans eyed an America First Caucus to protect “Anglo-Saxon political traditions.” It didn’t work out well.”

“For several decades, far-right members of Congress enjoyed a special group, intended to be separate from the GOP mainstream. It was called the Republican Study Committee, and it was home to the House’s most rigid ideologues and reactionary voices.Eventually, however, it wasn’t quite enough. As longtime readers know, the more radicalized House Republicans became, the more the Republican Study Committee included nearly everyone from the GOP conference. The Study Committee became fine for run-of-the-mill far-right members, but some really conservative members wanted an even more exclusive caucus that would exclude those who weren’t quite far enough to the right. The House Freedom Caucus was born…”

“NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter Succeeds in Historic First Flight”

“Monday, NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter became the first aircraft in history to make a powered, controlled flight on another planet. The Ingenuity team at the agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California confirmed the flight succeeded after receiving data from the helicopter via NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover at 6:46 a.m. EDT (3:46 a.m. PDT).

“Ingenuity is the latest in a long and storied tradition of NASA projects achieving a space exploration goal once thought impossible,” said acting NASA Administrator Steve Jurczyk. “The X-15 was a pathfinder for the space shuttle. Mars Pathfinder and its Sojourner rover did the same for three generations of Mars rovers. We don’t know exactly where Ingenuity will lead us, but today’s results indicate the sky – at least on Mars – may not be the limit.”

The solar-powered helicopter first became airborne at 3:34 a.m. EDT (12:34 a.m. PDT) – 12:33 Local Mean Solar Time (Mars time) – a time the Ingenuity team determined would have optimal energy and flight conditions. Altimeter data indicate Ingenuity climbed to its prescribed maximum altitude of 10 feet (3 meters) and maintained a stable hover for 30 seconds. It then descended, touching back down on the surface of Mars after logging a total of 39.1 seconds of flight. Additional details on the test are expected in upcoming downlinks.”

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-2 Mission is ‘Go’ for Launch April 22

“During a prelaunch news conference earlier this morning, Wednesday, April 20, mission managers with NASA and SpaceX have confirmed they are proceeding toward April 22 at 6:11 a.m. EDT for the Crew-2 mission that will launch from the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the International Space Station.

“We’re ‘go’ for launch,” said Steve Stich, manager of the Commercial Crew Program at Kennedy Space Center…. Friday looks better than Thursday, but we’ll continue to watch; we have another briefing tomorrow and will decide when the right time to make a decision is.”

“Crew-2 mission astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur of NASA, along with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Thomas Pesquet will head to the space station for a six-month science mission in the Crew Dragon spacecraft, which will launch on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A.”

    • April 20, 2021 at 12:06 pm

“NASA TV coverage of Crew-2 launch preparations and liftoff will begin at 2 a.m. Thursday, April 22.
The Crew Dragon is scheduled to dock to the space station Friday, April 23, at approximately 5:30 a.m.
Follow along with launch activities and get more information about the mission at: http://www.nasa.gov/crew-2.”

    “Hope Over History:
Racial Justice Advocates Anxiously Await Chauvin Verdict”
“Phillip Atiba Goff, co-founder and CEO of the Center for Policing Equity, talks with Rachel Maddow about the anxious waiting as the jury in the Derek Chauvin trial begins deliberation, and points out that history does not offer comfort in situations like this, so advocates for racial justice can only lean on hope.”
—truth and urgentt eloquence, pls don’t miss.

    • April 20, 2021 at 1:44 pm

      Phillip Atiba Goff (excerpt):

“I understand that the charge here is murder but what we witnessed was a lynching.
It’s part of the reason why it`s important to put it in a historical context. It was a public message to people that what Officer Chauvin was doing was OK and you might be next.

So part of why where we’re sitting here is because of the absurdity that there is ANY suspense about this at all. We all watched it!”

    • April 20, 2021 at 1:48 pm

      Goff
“But the other part is exactly that. I mean there’s no way to actually get justice for George Floyd,
he’s not going to come back alive. There is also no way to get remedy for the children who had to take the stand and say, ‘yes In my formative years this is what I saw and I knew it was wrong.
And the person who had authority to take away life and liberty could not get up off a man`s neck.’

There will be no remedy through this court process for anybody. There might be a measure of accountability and the fact of that that would feel like something new is an indictment. It`s just an indictment for a case we haven’t yet really put on trial. And the hope is on the other side of something like sense in this particular court case, that we’ll do something different for the first time on racism and punishment in this country. For the FIRST TIME.

I can’t overstate it, because in all of our history we are looking for the example that makes this right,
the place we can get back to. And there is no going backwards to find comfort. The only possible comfort is what we choose to do next.”
