Congrats, Gail! This Friday is extra special because my son who just had surgery for kidney cancer last Wednesday got his J&J jab today! There might be a trip to Oakland, CA in our future sooner than we thought! We get our second Pfizer dose on the 28th and then will dutifully wait 2 weeks before being with other vaccinated people. Hoping every in TOD can get vaccinated sooner rather than later. Thanks, Joe and Kamala!

      Great news Judith!

Congrats Gail and a very good Friday evening to all in TODVille!

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her disciplined caucus, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his unified caucus, our fair-and-squarely elected President Biden and his WH staff, the intellectual First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, the extremely qualified and competent VP Kamala Harris and her team, the Second Gentleman, Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, the Forever President Obama and his wife Former First Lady Michelle Obama, all deserve a wonderful and restful weekend. So do we. But we will remain vigilant for any shenanigan from you-know-who.

A friend who is trans is unhappy about being asked “Sex at Birth” on the vaccine registration.
I made her laugh about it, but honestly…

    • March 13, 2021 at 1:56 pm

A County official will have produced this form. There was also an bizarre configuration of questions about ‘Race’ and ‘Ethnicity’. In this case seems what she/he really wanted to know is if you are Hispanic.

It is being reported that females have had the largest percentage of side effects/reactions to this vaccine (80% +), which lines up with females having the largest percentage of auto immune disorders. There is something about being “female” that gives them these immune reactions. I do believe they are trying to collect data on this. I have a trans son myself… but he still has his ovaries…. which like it or not were there at birth. Just my thoughts on this.

      • March 13, 2021 at 5:48 pm

        Thanks a lot carla4obama.
I get it about the need for stats on a lot of levels and I respect that.
But hearing from trans women in other places, they weren’t asked this question. Plus there was something here probably just in our county that looked concocted based on cultural bias and dare I say – trumpy. The form my friend received is not nationwide and probably not consistent even within this county.

thanks for saying about your son…mine is non binary. And their other parent has transitioned to female. A lot to learn but as you know it is about love. so good to meet you!!!

“We can’t put a price tag on this man’s life.”
“The city of Minneapolis on Friday agreed to pay $27 million to settle a civil lawsuit with George Floyd’s family just weeks before the trial is scheduled to begin for the former officer charged with murder in his death. Congressmember Cori Bush says “we can’t put a price tag on this man’s life’”and mentions how “our state legislatures will work to come up with all this anti-protester legislation … instead of fixing the problem.””

    Speaker Pelosi.
Statement on Infrastructure and Jobs Package:

“Congress must work swiftly to build on the historic Biden American Rescue Plan.
Our recovery plan must Build Back Better For The People in every zip code by creating good-paying jobs for the future.

ā€œTo that end, I have called upon the Chairs of the Committees of Jurisdiction to work with their Republican counterparts to craft a big, bold and transformational infrastructure package.

ā€œBuilding our transportation system has long been bipartisan. It is our hope that spirit will prevail as we address other critical needs in energy and broadband, education and housing, water systems and other priorities. As we engage in these job-creating initiatives, we must discuss their impact on the federal budget, on creating economic growth and on preserving our planet.ā€

Dark skin and blue eyes until recently…

“Hunter-gatherer European had blue eyes and dark skin”
“Scientists have shed light on what ancient Europeans looked like.
Genetic tests reveal that a hunter-gatherer who lived 7,000 years ago had the unusual combination
of dark skin and hair and blue eyes.
It has surprised scientists, who thought that the early inhabitants of Europe were fair.”

“Scientists had thought the first Europeans became fair soon after they left Africa
and moved to the continent about 45,000 years ago.
“It has been assumed that it is something that happens in response to going from Africa to higher latitudes where the UV radiation is very low and you need to synthesise vitamin D in your skin. Your skin becomes lighter quite soon,” explained Dr Lalueza-Fox.
“It is obvious that this is not the case,
because this guy has been in Europe for 40,000 years and he still has dark skin.”

“The hunter-gatherer’s genome also gave the team an insight into how humans had changed as they moved from foraging to farming.”

“The dark skin is a very interesting finding, as light skin is nearly universal across Europe today.
These results suggest that the light skin seen across Europe today
is a development of the last
    at least 7,000 years.”

I went and got the covid19 shot on Wednesday at CVS in downtown Austin. I received the one shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, what surprised me the most was when I arrived to get my shot was that I was the only person there. I thought the pharmacy would be full of people waiting to get the vaccine. I was there for about an hour, after my shot the Pharmacist asked that I hang around for 15 minutes just in case I had an allergic reaction to the shot, which I didn’t. Aside from the $21 dollars I had to pay to park for less than 2 hours in downtown Austin, everything went well. The people that own those parking lots make a killing. Four days later and I haven’t had any side effects of the shot, knock on wood.
