“LeBron James cuts ad targeting voter suppression measures”
“Look what we did. Look what we made happen. What our voices made possible,”
James says, as pictures of voting rights activist Stacey Abrams and newly elected U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock flash onscreen.
“And now, look what they’re trying to do to silence us, using every trick in the book and attacking democracy itself. Because they saw what we’re capable of. And they fear it. So, this isn’t the time to put your feet up. Or to think posting hashtags and black squares is enough.”
James closes: “Because for us, this was never about one election. It’s always been more than a vote. It’s a fight and it’s just getting started. And we’ve been ready. You with us?”

Whoever their PR team is, this is an epic fail.

Y’all are abusive. Y’all are racists. Y’all are hypocrites. Y’all played an active role in selling lies about Meghan Markle to the rancid tabloids and deading truths about that troll William and lying Kate Middleton.

Y’all are still living in the dark ages. Welcome to 2021, royal family. They gon eat you up.

Stanley Dunlap, Georgia Recorder, following efforts to roll back Georgia voting rights,
    speaking with Rachel Maddow:
    Maddow:
“Is this a foregone conclusion in Georgia at this point, or are enough Republicans potentially getting cold feet here, that despite their control of state government, some of these things may not survive to final passage?”
    Dunlap:
“That’s the million dollar question. So today was crossover day and it was the last chance for bills from one chamber to pass over to the other. What we saw today in the Senate was the sweeping bill that would eliminate the No-Excuse valid law that’s been in place since 2005. Last year 1.3 million Georgians used that to vote.
And that moves over to the House. Whether that will gain any traction will kind of depend on the House leaders. House Speaker David Ralston – who is also a Republican – has spoken out against that. And we’ve also seen that the sweeping bill has moved through the House and now is over to the Senate. It includes some restrictions, but it does not go as far as eliminating No-Excuse Absentee law. And so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out once it gets into the House committees pretty soon.”

    • March 9, 2021 at 2:18 pm

      Maddow:
“Should we read anything into that somewhat dramatic decision today when the Lieutenant Governor basically handed off the gavel and said that he wouldn’t preside over passing this legislation, in particular to rescind absentee voting access? Should we read anything into that? Or was that a personal more than political matter?”
      Dunlap:
“No. I think this is something that – Lieutenant Governor Duncan has been one of the first Republicans who spoke out against the widespread fraud claims shortly after the election. And said it’s time to move past that, that it’s been a secure election. And they called for some changes that have had some controversy with Democrats, as far as an absentee ID requirement that would kind of replace the signature verification.
But I don’t think that was a political game necessarily from Duncan. I think this is something that he’s spoken out against…”

    • March 9, 2021 at 2:20 pm

      Maddow:
“We are seeing Black athletes and Black artists, and it seems like increasingly the business community specifically in Atlanta but also perhaps more broadly in Georgia, starting to take an interest here. And starting to make this a point of national discussion, trying to align themselves with the forces that are fighting against these Voter rights rollbacks. Is that having any effect, or how do you expect that to evolve as this all comes to a head?”
      Dunlap:
“I think any time you have business communities, sometimes people will call out celebrities for trying to push their weight around to have influence. We saw major dollars that will help improve voter registration, help get people out there encouraging them to vote. And so I do think it does have significance. And we saw the Atlanta Chamber put out a statement today…And so I think when you have the Georgia Chamber, the Atlanta Chamber, big time companies, celebrities, all of that weighing in, people who have influence and could make political donations and kind of wield great power. I do think they can have an impact moving down the line.”

Good morning. Where is everyone? I am totally and completely locked out of Facebook. Is there a problem with TOD too?

Someone tried to hack my Facebook. When I started the process of resetting my password, I ended up getting locked out totally. Had to finally send a picture of my driver’s license and that may not get reviewed for up to 48 hours. Husband and I worked on it last night until midnight. Daughter worked this morning for over 30 minutes and finally got us to the point of either showing my driver’s license or passport or something else.

    Congressman James Clyburn:
Covid Relief Package Is Most ‘Transformative’ Bill Of His Career.
“What the Child Tax Credit is going to do for children in this country….What this bill does for Black farmers is more than has been done, maybe the best thing since the 1964 Civil Rights Act….rural hospitals…this bill is huge…
When you see 76% of the American people saying they are for something, 60% of republicans support this bill! 71% of independents support this bill! I’ve not seen anything like that since I’ve been here.
So I believe this is a big, big deal.”

  43. March 10, 2021 at 11:26 am

    Speaker Pelosi:
“Pelosi Remarks at Press Conference Ahead of Final Passage of the American Rescue Plan”

“But my praise right now goes to the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
This is the Biden American Rescue Plan. It will be followed by the American recovery plan. And it’s about just that: saving lives and livelihoods and giving people hope for the future. His presidency does just that. This legislation is a reflection of his values.”

    Chairman Neal:
“Well, one thing that you should know about the tax code: getting something out of the code is oftentimes harder than getting something in the code. So, I’ve already had some thoughts about how we’re going to expand it and make it permanent. And I intend to share those in the near future,
but what we did is unlikely to go away.”

    Good Morning TODVille!

Oh, I can’t wait for a vote, on the Relief Bill, on Judge M. Garland, on all Biden nominations, on anything.

It’s painful to tune in to C-Span and hear the constant misinformation from GOP insurrectionist leaders complaining about everything: the size of the bill, the number of pages in it, the variety of themes it includes, the weather, their grievances, their loss… All that because they find themselves infected with a virus against which the COVID vaccine cannot protect. They made a pact with a devil and believed then that they could tame it. Now, this thing has infected all the GOP base whether they know it or not and GOP leaders don’t know how to remove this gorilla glue.

  45. March 10, 2021 at 11:41 am

“Biden Has A Lot To Boast About In New Covid Relief Bill”
“Rachel Maddow reviews some of the highlights of the wide-reaching Covid-19 relief bill that Democrats are poised to pass for President Joe Biden to sign and notes that Biden is not well served by modesty given the amount of good the legislation does for Americans.”

    Maddow:
“Funding a coherent technocratically skilled national response.
Funding everything from testing to the vaccine rollout. We are in the middle of the largest vaccination effort in the history of this country. This is how we’re going to fund it…plus basic research….it’s going to reduce your healthcare premiums (some will go to zero). This bill radically increases access to health insurance….expected to cut child poverty in half…add 7 million jobs to the economy…direct 130 Billion dollars to U.S. schools…just the school funding alone is a really big deal.”

  46. March 10, 2021 at 11:42 am

Maddow notes that President Biden won’t put his name on the checks.
Rachel is here adorably hilarious: “I would make it like one of those greeting cards that plays a song when you pull it out of the envelope…I would put sequins on the the thing!…Get petty for once!”

Y’all the Apple Watch my cousin got for Christmas saved her life! For months she has has an intermittent blockage of signal to her heart and been putting off getting a pacemaker.

She went to Virginia to arrange a funeral for her aunt. The other night she had palpitations and thought she could wait it out. She clicked on the app on the Apple Watch that checks your heart rate. It showed a reading of 36 and said go to the hospital NOW! She didn’t believe it, but luckily her friend called for an ambulance. The doctor said her heart was completely blocked. If she’d waited another hour she’s be gone. They gave her a pacemaker yesterday. Today she says she feels like a new woman. She missed the funeral but lives to come home in a couple days.

Thanks tnmtngirl! We are so grateful for her friend and that she had that watch! She had us laughing when she told us she asked the ambulance EMT to take her to the VA Hospital, he shook his head and said “M’am, it’s your heart, we need to take to take you to VCU.” 😁
Ironically, when she was discussing follow-up care for when she gets back home, she told the doctor that she usually goes to the hospital that’s closest to where we live. The doctor shook his head and said “M,am, it’s your heart, I think you need to go to Emory. Let me make the appointment for you!”
        God Bless them all! 😁🙏🏾

Just watched the enrollment ceremony for the American Rescue Act. While Schumer mentioned the election of Sens Ossoff and Warnock made passage possible, he failed to have them on stage. Warnock has to run again in 2022; he should have been standing next to the table as the bill was being signed. That should be the opening visual and narrative of his reelection campaign.

We’ve been focused on surviving the blows, protecting the lives of our loved ones. The devastation of saying goodbye on an i-pad or cellphone is beyond imagining. The funeral you couldn’t have, the bodies piling up. The doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who died…the children…elderly couple together since their teens dies holding hands…young widows break the news to their children, the new mother who never saw her baby. We will be processing this horror for a long time. Ms. Wallace opened some of this up for us with sweetness and gentleness.

I was thinking….what if this bottom up approach to stimulus shows the Republican idea of trickle down to be as fraudulent as they are? What if the economy booms because the majority of people are helped made whole and can see good things happening in their lives? The long held Republican belief of giving massive tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations to help business growth and thus the economy….will collapse and be exposed for the wrong idea that it is. Can THAT be why they are so scared? Joy in my heart!

Your guess is very likely on point. They are not ‘totally’ stupid. After all, Wicker was already taking credit for the bill helping restaurants by late yesterday afternoon. Remember, when the Recovery Act passed with none of them, yet they went home to brag and pass out the money for projects. Of course, this is the biggest and most progressive since FDR so, yes, they know what is happening.
