Congresswoman Cori Bush:
“Minimum Wage Hike Could Be ‘Difference Between Life And Death’ For Some”
“We’re talking about $15, Chris. We’re not talking about making anybody rich. This is the difference between life and death for people.”
By 2026 = raising the minimum wage to $15 over 5 years!!
So even Manchin gets his starvation 11 dollar wish during that time. Let’s see him live on that.
“In 2018, the federal minimum wage of $7.25 was worth 14.8 percent less than when it was last raised in 2009, after adjusting for inflation, and 28.6 percent below its peak value in 1968, when the minimum wage was the equivalent of $10.15 in 2018 dollars.
This decline in purchasing power means low-wage workers have to work longer hours now just to achieve the standard of living that was considered the bare minimum half a century ago.”
(Cooper, epi.org, 2019)
Hey there, Dudette! I think the experience in Seattle with raising the minimum wage to $15 showed no loss of business. People who earn their income paycheck to paycheck are long overdue for a raise. Damn GOP saw no problem with giving billions of tax cuts to corporations and rich people which did NOT trickle down to most of the country. Why do people vote for these heartless a-holes?

“As the pandemic has laid bare, the United States is a rich country that also happens to be one of the stingiest when it comes to the welfare of its own people. I just finished Episode 3 of PBO and Bruce Springsteen’s podcast “Renegades: Born in the USA.” They focus on American music and how it shaped them growing up. They also cover President Obama shocking the world when he sang Al Green at the Apollo and when he sang Amazing Grace at Rev. Pinckney’s funeral. All three episodes are great, but this one is my favorite so far. ♥️

Georgia's GOP-controlled House just passed #HB531 by a 97-72 vote. Among other voting restrictions, HB531 would limit location & hours of drop boxes, reduce early weekend voting, prohibits giving food/drink to voters waiting in line. Bill goes to State Senate now.
For those asking about part about giving food/drink to voters in line: "nor shall any person give, offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector"

BREAKING NEWS: Civil rights stalwart and business executive Vernon Jordan passed away last night. We will pay tribute to him tonight with an hour special on #RolandMartinUnfilteredpic.twitter.com/js1Ej07KLl
⚖️BRNOVICH: On this side, there’s Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, the Arizona GOP and various AZ Republican election officials. They’re arguing that the prohibition on ballot collection and OOP regulations are lawful and do not target minority voters.
⚖️DNC: On the DNC side, there’s the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Arizona Democratic Party. They’re arguing that AZ’s laws are discriminatory and result in the disenfranchisement of Black, Hispanic, and Native American voters.
Both sides will make arguments before #SCOTUS today. We’ll be live-tweeting the arguments right here on Twitter. Keep in mind that the case will not be decided on for a while, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we know something.
The Voting Rights Act is one of the most significant voting reforms in U.S. history—and it has been under attack for the past decade. In our new series, we’ll examine the impact and current issues of the VRA.
Each #SCOTUS justice has an opportunity to ask questions to all four advocates (i.e. the lawyers arguing). Questions are asked in order of seniority on the Court:

President Biden did not name Amazon or express views on the results of the vote.
“Workers in Alabama, and all across America, are voting on whether to organize a union in their workplace,” Biden, 78, said, calling their vote “vitally important.”
“Let me be clear: It’s not up to me to decide whether anyone should join a union,” Biden said. “But let me be even more clear: It’s not up to an employer to decide that either. The choice to join a union is up to the workers — full stop.”
“About 6,000 Amazon workers in its Bessemer, Alabama, warehouse are voting this month on whether to join the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, The Washington Post previously reported. If they vote to do so, the group would become the first Amazon workers to unionize. The New York Times reported that Amazon currently has 400,000 American workers.”
President Biden said on Sunday:
“there should be no intimidation, no coercion, no threats, no anti-union propaganda.”
“No supervisor should confront employees about their union preferences,” he added.
“Every worker should have a free and fair choice to join a union,” the president said.
“The law guarantees that choice. And it’s your right, not that of an employer. It’s your right. No employer can take that right away.
