I felt inspired and hopeful after speaking with students in @TheTellingRoom’s Young Writers & Leaders program. I wrote #APromisedLand in part because I hoped to reach young people like those in this group—the unique voices of a new generation, energized and unafraid to dream big. https://t.co/LP1Ri8Epva

Today marks seven years since we launched My Brother’s Keeper to reduce barriers and expand opportunity for boys and young men of color. And it remains true that the only way our country lives up to its ideals is if our young people can reach their fullest potential. pic.twitter.com/dOoOGPxnNv

The Bureau of Land Management rescinded a ten-year grazing permit that two Oregon ranchers received on Trump’s last day in office. The ranchers had previously been convicted of arson on public lands.
Democrats essentially carry the entire weight of governing this country and the minute they can’t haul every single issue over the line *by themselves* even the ppl who agree with them on the issues attack *them* instead of the party who won’t lift a FINGER to help.
We expect exactly ZERO from Republicans and that’s what they deliver. We expect *everything* from Dems and when they can only deliver like 75% they pay the price and we give power back to the “Do Nothing But Obstruct and Troll” party.
Dems are about to pass nearly a recovery package of almost TWO TRILLION DOLLARS, delivering on numerous campaign promises with *zero* GOP votes in the House, and probably zero in the Senate too a mere ONE month after getting the WH and Senate.
It’ll be all about how Dems couldn’t get a minimum wage hike through the reconciliation process and how bc of that, despite passing a recovery bill that will help A LOT of people, they’re already irredeemable failures *one month* into their majority.
Agree 100%-every word. My neighbor was complaining about Biden yesterday. He was so angry about something… thinking he would switch from being a Dem to an Independent. I told him why is it Repugs stick
together like glue, but Dems stick together like ice cream on a hot summer day. We get all emotional on single issue items and can’t see the big picture. WTF is wrong with some of these DEMS?
DITTO TO THIS THREAD! Yes to all other comments about this. The dang filibuster must go. I was listening with ‘a third ear’ yesterday to Senator Pedilla from CA. The discussion was about this bill, getting it passed, etc. He was very positive and said something like “I think they will try it for a couple of months (Manchin and Sinema holding the filibuster) but if there’s still NO support from Rs, it just may go.” 🤞🤞🤞🤞
I get it when the FURY is about the minimum wage = $ 15,000 a year.
$15 an hour is no picnic either.
And it is a 5 year phase in!!
Bring back earmarks.
–NOW, NOW, NOW get rid of the filibuster.
1.9 Trillion$ will be a HUGE accomplishment. The minimum wage is equally huge for survival after that.
–what are coal coporations telling Manchin…will he block everything going forward?

Today (2/28) would’ve been my lovely Mum’s 100th birthday! She missed reaching that milestone by 7 months. A bunch of us worldwide are going to celebrate her incredible life via Zoom! 💞💞💖
A beautiful celebration of a life well-lived, to join with all who loved her! Enjoy every minute, Gazelle, the laughter and the tears, your Mama will be laughing with you!
We surely did. So many stories. My Dad used to tease my Mum that she was actually born on 2/29, leap year (of course the year she was born wasn’t a leap year). She’d counter back with: Well you’re married to a very young woman! 😇They were together for over 67 years! Until Dad passed. We learned love & grit from them, & the grandkids had blessed time & love with them. 💞💞
Oh my Gazelle, so many wonderful stories and memories to share. It’s been so many years since my mother passed. My heart aches with missing her. But the memories I share with so many people fills those aches. Sending you love and hugs!
In ‘Small Axe’,
Steve McQueen Explores Britain’s Caribbean Heritage:
‘McQueen, who was born in West London to Grenadian and Trinidadian parents, is one of Britain’s most gifted and garlanded Black filmmakers. He’s best known to American audiences as the director of the star-studded “Widows” from 2018 and “12 Years a Slave,” in 2013, for which he became the first Black director of a best picture Oscar winner. When he collected that trophy, McQueen was already developing the drama project with the BBC that would become “Small Axe.”
Today, the finished product comprises five discrete works of varying lengths (the shortest is 70 minutes; the longest 128 minutes), all directed and co-written by McQueen.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/11/arts/television/steve-mcqueen-small-axe.html)
Notting Hill riots.
“Mangrove,” the series opener, focuses on the sensational trial of a group of Black activists in 1971.
They were accused of inciting a riot during a protest against the targeted police harassment of patrons at The Mangrove, a Caribbean restaurant in London’s Notting Hill district that was a thriving hub for Black intellectuals and artists.

Workers in Alabama – and all across America – are voting on whether to organize a union in their workplace. It’s a vitally important choice – one that should be made without intimidation or threats by employers.
NEW: President Biden weighs in on the push to unionize Amazon workers in Alabama, telling workers to make their “voice heard.” He says it’s up them to decide how to vote but makes clear that he believes unions help workers. Story on @theterminal.
Biden in new video: “Let me be really clear: it’s not up to me to decide whether anyone should decide a union. But let me be even more clear: it’s not up to an employer to decide that either. The choice to join a union is up to the workers – full stop, full stop.”
As Black History Month comes to a close, I'm thinking of our responsibility to do right by the legacy of Americans like Claudette Colvin, Rosa Parks, and countless others who made this a better country by fighting for equity in transportation and in daily life.

This is a political failure by Sanders. Made his supporters believe that there was 50 votes for $15/hr (there wasn’t) then failed to garner support for taxing corporations who didn’t pay $15. This is a good example of how the “bully pulpit” theory of politics fails. https://t.co/wjLGVbLfXT
Bernie can’t say “he” wasn’t given the chance by President Biden to pull this off. I agree he did not make it happen – although he wouldn’t necessarily be singled out as the cause, if he didn’t do that to himself – so maybe he’ll stop yelling and get to work on the next step, now. Sorry but this has me annoyed!

I assumed by young readers she meant children and younger teens. My guess would’ve been that an 18 yr old college student would be more interested in the grown-up version. But, what do I know?
