What struck me every time I spent time with Cicely Tyson was not necessarily her star power—though that was evident enough—it was her humanity. Just by walking into a room, she had this way of elevating everyone around her. pic.twitter.com/o6VAV63wqd

In her extraordinary career, Cicely Tyson was one of the rare award-winning actors whose work on the screen was surpassed only by what she was able to accomplish off of it. She had a heart unlike any other—and for 96 years, she left a mark on the world that few will ever match. pic.twitter.com/JRsL3zlKtP

The art of rewriting an entire narrative is rare – but #CicelyTyson did so. She infused film with the power of transfiguration, showing black women, marginalized women, underestimated women in their abundant glory. And the world will never be the same. God’s rest to you, madam.

Cicely Tyson is one of those legends you’d hoped we would have forever. And you knew it was a silly dream but you dreamt it anyway. This day is hard for so many reasons. This is a massive loss. Thank you for your gifts, queen.

Brilliant. Fierce. Beautiful.
This hurts.
I’m a bit heartbroken at the moment, but Cicely lived an incredibly beautiful life. She shared her art with us every chance she could. We have so many moving performances of hers to cherish and now, we have her memoir.

❤️❤️❤️😭
So nothing else seems very important……..love to Ms. Tyson’s family with thanks.
As others have mentioned, I posted on Facebook that I am so glad that she received her flowers while she was living. There is a cosmic symmetry in the fact that she transitioned days after her memoir, Just As I Am was published and after that final CBS interview. I am old enough to remember when she first start wearing her hair naturally before it was a more common thing and a lot of Black women had negative things to say about it. I did the big chop and went natural 24 years ago and never looked back.
Her scenes on How to Get away with Murder were another tour de force. Those lines came from her and every Black child, no matter their age( babies to adult), heard the echoes of their own mothers. She was always “gorgeous” as PBO said , even when she and many of us did not realize it. RIP, Ms. Cecily; well done good and faithful servant.
It took going bald from chemo for me. It started growing back and I realized how much money and effort I’d been wasting when I was already cute. So a sistah said “Never again.”
You are gorgeous!!
{{{💞Dudette💞}}}
Thank you Dear! So are you! 😘😘😘
I was blessed to be born with massive frizzy hair, drove my Mama nuts trying to manage it (she had 11 kids!), tried to wear it long, whoa, mostly kept it short and nappy with waves, but it wasn’t until I was in my mid-40’s I finally realized I had the hair I always wanted, the kind of hair other people pay a LOT of money to imitate! Lol! One of my black friends said over and over how great my hair would go to dredlocks, but I told him I think us with the great hair but with white (ish, I’m sort of dark olive toned) skin, don’t deserve to wear dreds ~ he kind of agreed, but I think of it still, at 70 y/o now, maybe I will, just to be a fine old woman!!
Really paid off to have a natural during the pandemic; LOL
I’m telling ya!
👑💃🏾💖🍑 Dudette, You truly are a Georgia Peach
Remember when Oprah had that big 3 day gala at her home to bring about a gathering and recognition of older Black women artists and activists and the younger ones who were inspired by them? It came about because Oprah realized that Ms. Tyson had not been included in her 50th B’day celebrations and pulled together that memorable weekend inspired by Ms. Tyson. It was the famous Legends weekend complete with a groundbreaking poem commissioned by Oprah from the poet Pearl Cleage, “We Speak Your Names.” When you go back and look at the photos from that weekend, it is sad to realize that many of the Legends have passed on.
I remember it well! Goosbumps! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for adding this link. Just watched it again with tears and gratitude.

The new Georgia Senator is also a very good communicator! Loving it.
Yep, good communicator is pretty much a job requirement for senior pastor of perhaps the most iconic church of the civil rights movement.
Definitely. So happy he made it to the Senate! He’s covering all bases.
Yes he is! I’m so proud My Senator.
My two are Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, so that’s not bad, either!
Pretty darn great!

Yesterday Hayes interviewed Chris Stirewalt, who got fired from Fakes News for calling AZ for PE Biden early.
His response about the Big (murderous) Lies Fox tells that are destroying America was, well,
“I didn’t lie”and “You cannot upset the people coming to you.”
FFS the seditious racist little russian lost.
And without a doubt, Fox news is majorly, majorly responsible
not just for 6 deaths and 140 injured police officers at the Capitol,
but for hundreds of thousands of Covid deaths across Americas, by promoting Lies. Is that all?
Imo democracy has a chance in America — when we have thoroughly taken down Fox News et al.
As for Greene, she is mentally incompetent. She is not mentally well.
She needs medical help, not the power to legislate or threaten members of Congress or David Hogg.

Congressman Gomez talks to Hayes about expelling Marjorie Taylor Greene
Let’s try again ….
Let’s try again ….
#NoJusticeNoDemocracy
One day they’ll stop comparing them with the ousted loser’s sick life, but otherwise I just love this.
So we ended up with the nutball lady from rural Georgia in the congress, because her nutball supporters terrorized the DEM candidate and his family so badly, his wife left him and took the kids, he fell into depression and quite the race after the deadline for a replacement to come in.
Morning everyone.
There has to be a de-programming of these extremists, dunno how but it is not normal. Or fight fire with fire in the next election and run a crazier candidate on the left, it seems to me that being crazy is the key factor here.
I want to say I am kidding but …
Whatever Germany did with the Nazis after WWII we should do that.
I’m ok with increasing the jail population…put them in JAIL
Another great piece from BriWi – so glad.
We can start recovering from the trauma of the past four years.
Recovery would go better but for the QAnon whackos, the spineless tRump cultists, and the self-serving power seekers in Congress…i.e., the GOP.
Totally true!
I can relate.
When people think about the military, they primarily think about the troops that are *actively* serving. It’s good that we are being made more aware that “serving” extends to the families — especially the spouse and children — of these troops.
Still knocking ….
Goodnight TOD.
it was fun and informative…
A effective, honest, just government helps even the playing field for those of us without the resources of the “haves”.
AJC poll: Republicans in dicey political territory in Georgia
Best news ever SW.
I was watching Smerconish on tv and he had the guy who was Marjorie Greene’s opponent in the primaries.
He probably is less crazy but was spouting that the media and politicians on ‘both’ side have to tone is down.
He said the ppl “enjoy” their gun, religious freedom etc … first of all how does one ‘enjoy’ a gun???
What religious freedom are these ppl not enjoying?
My understanding was that any Republican who won the primary for that district was a shoo-in to win in the GE. That’s how RED that district is. Unfortunately, MTG was the GOP primary winner.
I’ve heard rumblings that people in that district are *embarrassed* by her actions and rhetoric. Are they embarrassed enough to initiate a recall???
Bullies, insurrectionists, white supremacists, terrorists… IN CONGRESS!!!
What are the repercussions? Are they enough? Do they amount to just a slap on the wrist? Do they really deter the behavior or are the crazies encouraged to continue on their rampage against democracy?
I’ve seen threats. I’ve seen resolutions. I’ve seen procedures that these crazies seem to ignore and get away with it. Even the monetary penalties aren’t effective if most of them can afford it.
thanks for posting this
You’re welcome
GOP wants to argue that having impeachment hearings after tRump is out of office is unconstitutional. But keep in mind, tRump was still in office when he was impeached. The hearings is an extension of that impeachment.
In addition, the hearings are not just about removal from office. It is also about prohibiting an individual from running for office in the future.
We’ll see how that goes….
Happy Saturday Family!
How about some cool space pictures?
Wear a mask! And wear it properly! 🐶
TOD Fam in either this thread or past one said media could interview others than just AOC. I vote for Reps. Lauren Underwood & Jahana Hayes! Former for health, latter for education! They’re awesomeness! 💞
